visited recently for dinner. can't complain about the prices at the end of the day, especially drinking $2 pbr drafts, but i thought it was just a tad overrated. coming back from a trip to austin recently, these tacos paled in comparison to the least tasty streettacoi had there. the chips and guac....meh. not bad but not worth writing home about. queso is a little different. i didn't like but others in our party did.

the place was packed and as others stated, it is incredibly loud. i'm in my 30's now and prefer to actually be able to converse with people rather than shout at them for dinner.

would absolutely come here for a happy hour but that's it.

this review is strictly based on food. it's probably good to mention that i'm from texas.. so i eat tex-mex every day of my life, and real mexican food about once or twice a week. everyone in texas knows that you don't eat mexican food in any other state, however sometimes you're away from home for 2 days and you just need it! the 3rd star is only because i thought the fishtacowas pretty good. the queso is not queso. it's like we're hard stringy melted cheese. what the crap is that? it's like they dumped shredded cheese in a skillet and stirred it around. salsas were gross. moletacowas gross. maybe if you don't live in the south your standards might not be as high and you'll like it? but i prepared myself for bad, and i got worse. if you're going to get food, fish tacos.

trending now.. bakersfield certainly is the "it" place right now. the hipsters of indianapolis crawled out of their skinny jean stores and skipped their liberal arts study sessions to come here every night. but with good reason! they have a small, yet refined menu. their tacos are fresh and flavorful with every component made in house. granted, i think they're a bit on the small side, and they don't double wrap each softtacolike zest! (smartly) does, but they're good nonetheless. want an even cooler ambiance? go downstairs. it has kind of a underground wine cellar/prohibition underground pub feel to it. that's where we sat. we also got a pitcher of their famous margheritta which was more than enough to water the three of us. their special of the day, shots of luna tequila for $3 each, was super smooth and delicious. i loved it. the server was super cool and down to earth and spent a lot of time with us, even sitting with us for a minute or two.

overall, i'd come back here again in a heartbeat. just go on a sunday night like we did because it wasn't hard to get a table and it wasn't suffocatingly cramped inside (as hipsters seem to grow roots into the floor the moment they stop moving).

folsome prison blues. walked into bakersfield and looked around. wideplank manufactured wood floors, metal bolted to the brick walls and johnny cash blasting on the sound system.milli vanilli would be more appropriate.it was like walking into some synthetic orlando ethnic "eatery" experience.johnny cash would have eaten at one of the two dozen authentic mexican taquerias in indy or the red key. walked away that day but have tried twice since w friends who wanted me to join them. have tried all tacos and both salads. it's fine if you are nearby and don't have time to go somewhere else. had a bill for $34 for 2 people at lunch ...5 tacos and a salad to split w water. $40 out the door. really?!?!? next time took both folks to a real mexicantacojoint on new york nearby just to prove a point. $16 w fantastic authentic tacos and guac w 3 different salsas. no comparison. kim kardashian would love bakersfield.

solid tacos and an even better margarita. there's one thing that always turns me off with a margarita, to much sweetness, and this drink nails it. served in a mason jar, rimmed with salt and filled with wonderful tequila and fresh lime. it was the perfect compliment to the three tacos i tried.

first was the short rib. complex, rich an full of beefy goodness, thistacois set off by the pickled onion and radish!

second, was the cochinita pibio, a great braised porktacowith more pickled onion and a habenero salsa i had to ask for more of. this was my favorite, despite a very hard choice.

the third and last taco, huitlaciche, a corn fungus, is one of their two vegetarian options, and it rocked my world! with a great richness from the black beans, a bitterness from the huitlacoche, and sweetness from the fresh corn. add to that some of their habenero salsa, and your in for a good meal!

from my first experience, this is one of those joints i have to bring friends to! the staff is smiling, having fun and providing great service.

besttacobar by far. places like this are becoming more and more popular in bigger cities, and i am happy that indy finally got one. a specialty bar that sticks to its specialties. they don't try to half ass other dishes to beef up their menu, they simply go with what they know. when we first walked in, we could barely fit in the door as the place is not very big and was very crowded. the bar was crowded with individuals sipping cocktails and margaritas out of mason jars and the dimly, yet still sufficiently, lit dining areas were full of people enjoying the same drinks and food. the receptionist wasted no time in getting my name and phone number so that she could text me when my table was ready. she told me 45 minutes to an hour, however, within about 35 minutes we were seated. "do you mind if we set another party with you at a large table?" of course we didn't. some may not like this, but it promotes fellowship and gives you a drinking partner, so i was all for it. immediately after being seated, i was given two menus: one was for food and the other was an extensive list of whiskey and tequilas (their specialties as indicated on the sign outside). after about five minutes our waitress came back and took our orders. the items are all a la cart. i started with a cocktail (the drifter, a very refreshing tequila and orange mixture), an order of guac, and three tacos (the fish, the mole chicken, and the pastor). we began socializing with the others that were sat our table and realized that we even had a few of the same friends. this made it great to pass the time between the small waits for our dishes. the drink came right out, even though the two bartenders looked heavily occupied, and the guac came soon after. i read another review on here about the guac being too chunky. there is a simple remedy for this: mash it up with the spoon they give you and quit crying. the guac was absolutely delicious. i would have liked some jalapenos added, however, i am sure that they can do that and it was on me for not doing so. the waitress waited until our guac was gone to bring us our tacos. my friend, however, ordered the salad which he claimed was amazing. the tacos are all on the smaller tortillas. i like flower tortillas better, however, the corn ones that are served have a perfect balance between the softness of a flour tortilla and the roughness of a corn tortilla. the tacos were absolutely delicious. i savored every bite of every one. i was a little put off by the pineapple on the pastor (a shredded pork taco) but it accented it perfectly. we continued to eat and make new friends for the next hour and i cannot wait to go back.
