every bite a delight. this was our first experience with bacchanalia. we went to celebrate my birthday. the prix fixe menu had lots of choices, from safe to adventurous, and we especially appreciated that wines were suggested for each course, taking the guess work out of our selections.

the service was very professional and attentive without being overbearing. we never had to wait for anything or had the feeling we were being watched.

thecheesepuff and cold fennel soup with radish and scallion that the chef sent out as appetizers were absolutely delicious. thecheesepuff was warm and just melted in my mouth, exploding with creamy texture and flavor. the cold sipping soup which followed was refreshing with radish and scallion providing a little bite as well as a tangy surprise finish.

the warm sourdough bread, served with butter, was delicious and almost invisibly replenished as soon as our plate was empty.

for the first course, we both had the blue crab fritter. it was a perfect, golden, crispy globe and the citrus with thai pepper essence that accompanied it brought out the crab flavor without overpowering it. the dry waterbrook riesling, from columbia valley was the perfect accompaniment.

for the second course, i had the wood grilled lamb loin chops with trumpet mushrooms, fava and pole beans, globe artichokes and pickle onions. two thick chops came cooked exactly as i had requested - medium towards medium rare, and accompanied by a little jar of mint honey. the meat was tender, the flavors blended beautifully, and the vegetables were crisp and delectable. the accompanying wine, a louis martini reserve cabernet sauvignon from alexander valley provided just the right contrast and full-bodied flavor for the lamb.

for the salad, i chose arugula with bleu d'auvergne cheese, pickled shallot and candied pecans, an excellent blend of intense sweet , salty and sour flavors to follow the strong flavors of the lamb dish. it was a perfect dish to follow the lamb.

the chef then sent out an intermezzo - a tiny strawberry buttermilk smoothie to cleanse the palate - a blend of sweet/sour to get our mouths ready for dessert. yummy.

i chose the orange souffle with tarragon custard and pistachio florentine. the souffle was perfectly cooked and although i couldn't detect tarragon in the accompanying sauce, i found the flavor delicious. the pistachio florentine was a small crispy lacy cookie on the side that provided a lovely contrast of texture to the souffle. the la serra moscato d'asti from piedmont, italy had just enough bubbles to provide a cleansing contrast to the creamy richness of the souffle and its delicate flavor was just right to complement but not overwhelm the dessert.

my husband had the brown butter poached rhubarb fried pie with honey tangerine float. he said the tangerine float reminded him of the orange and vanilla ice cream treats on a stick we used to get from good humor. but the pie was a bit of a disappointment. the unpleasant taste and smell of the fat used to fry it overwhelmed it.

after dinner, we received two madeleines, a dish containing chocolate truffles, rose water marshmallows and tiny chocolate cookies as well as a tower of caramel cupcakes with a candle on it for my birthday. our appetites were really too satisfied by this point for us to be able to enjoy these treats but the staff graciously offered to box them up so we could take them home.

on the way out, we enjoyed browsing through the eclectic star provisions store and ended up purchasing several items. the evening was altogether delightful. we will definitely return.

fine dining with a southern twist. this is a very unique setting, and the restaurant has done well to make the space simultaneously contemporary and urbane with a southern warmth. the staff were friendly, helpful and professional in an analogous manner to the physical setting with a slight casualness, but not too casual. as to the food, it was outstanding. the fois gras was the best i have had in many moons, and the far niente dolce wine pairing was perfect. and the assortedcheeseplatter was quite good. as to price, i thought is was rather a bargain for this type of dining with wine pairings. i would definitely recommend going.

did i go to the right place??. i feel as if i dined somewhere completely different than every review i've read everywhere!! my husband and i dined there (party of 4) for new years; they must have has a rough night because this restaurant was terrible!!!
we know about good food, how to cook it as well as when it is prepared properly... this place was indescribably bad.
my first course was the hamachi which was not scales properly and i was fishing them out of my mouth. yuck. then i had the snapper which was really overdone and flavorless. my third course was a beef tenderloin which yes was cooked properly but you could tell it was a cheap end piece and not quality tenderloin... thecheesecourse was bluecheesein which i think catered to people who do not know much aboutcheesebecause they had so much stuff on the plate that you couldn't appreciate the pungentcheeseat all. finally my one true treat was a goatcheesecheesecake which was pretty good; however not able to change my feeling towards this place. definitely dissapointed and ripped off!!!! if i'm in atl area again i am not going back.

great spot for a special night!. love this place. food is outstanding and service is an experience. theircheesecart is a real treat.

as a vegetarian, it's not always fun to go out to dinner. while your tablemates choose from numerous options, you get....a salad. or, if you're lucky, a pasta that's not seasoned well (vegetarians rely on more interesting seasoning since there are no meat/salty flavors to season). bacchanalia's chef has never let me down, i'm always delighted by whatever they put together, which is pretty much what i tell the waiter ("whatever they want to put together. i trust you.")
dessert is scrumptious and the wine list is impressive. i've had several celebratory business dinners here and they never fail to wow us. definitely worth making them a fave.
b is pricey but, for the cost, a great experience.

excellent dining. worth every penny. wonderful food - creative, delicious and delightful - and excellent service. while rich in meat dishes, the chef always turns out enviable vegetarian fare for me. thecheeseoffering is not to be missed - rafael, the server, offers it in the spirit of the best wine sommelier and the choices are always good.
expensive but worth it.

a sumptuous feast (to forget?). live vicariously through my companion and me by viewing the attached photos. although we enjoyed the dinner immensely no one part of it bedazzled the senses. money can't always buy you the perfect dinner and the perfect dinner will not be found here.

the pheasant breast with confit leg creamed farro, parsnip black trumpet mushrooms, and black cherries was the major highlight. the bird was perfectly prepared, juicy, tender, and flavorful: nary a hint of gaminess.

antipidol to the succulence of the pheasant was the dreadful foie gras. admittedly, i am not a fan of torchon style foie gras, but this preparation was more akin to spam. it was an awful mouthfeel with a tangy saltiness that lingered well into the third course.

the new york strip was the third course and was consummately cooked and seasoned. i loved every bite, all four bites to be exact.

my fourth course, the selection of cheeses, was a crap shoot. the attached menu photo shows a variety of cheeses among 4 major categories: sheep, goat, cow, and blue. i chose a range of flavors from mild and nutty (hawes wensleydale from the cow's milk selection) to tart and peppery (monte enebro from the goat'scheeseselection). nothing prepossesing about the flavors here, the selections change nightly so thankfully you can't reproduce this average arrangement.

jealousy was palpable on the fifth course. my companion generously allowed me to order the chocolate doughnuts (her first choice) while she ordered the sweet potato tart. the doughnuts and chocolate espresso were divine and despite green eyes of envy, my companion managed to muddle through her other selection.

overall, it was a great experience, but not perfect and not worth the price. i will not be back, but with so much variety to be had, your experience may be entirely different.

wow!. attended a small (7) dinner party on sat; we were swankily curtained off for privacy. it proved quite difficult to chose for each course because everything looked good. i had a light & flavorful summer sangria while trying to decide. the amuse bouche was appreciated by the entire table. for my app, i chose the gnocchi (delish); i also got to sample the blue crab fritter (very good). for my entrée, i chose the wood grilled lamb loin chops and all i can say is wow! that was the best lamb i have had in my entire life (didn't care for the mint honey, glad it was on the side). mycheesecourse was a delish buffalo mozzarella, amazing flavor explosion. for dessert i indulged in the yogurt parfait; i very much enjoyed the muscadine sorbet. the service was impeccable! kevin didn't miss a beat.
