the best and freshest food in johnson city!. my husband and i visited babylon about two months ago and cannot stay away even for a week!! the chicken biryani is soooooo fresh and delicious. the shwarma is like a gyro in that it is a wrapped sandwich. it is also 2 -3 times the size of a gyro, so you get plenty to eat. babylon is also affordable. if you get water to drink, your bill for a shwarma - this is a wrapped sandwich- with a side will be under $6.50. so, a great lunch for me is a chicken tikka shwarma (sandwich) with water to drink. my bill comes under $6.50. folks, this is more food, good and fresh food than i have ever gotten anywhere else.

the staff at babylon are friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. if i have never heard of something on the menu -like okra stew- they will give me a little taste. the okra stew is fabulous! bottom line: bestrestaurantall around. life is too short to live without experiencing this wonderful diner~

at best, uneven.. i was excited to hear that a real mediterranean/middle-easternrestaurantwas opening up in jc, but my excitement soon turned into disappointment after several underwhelming meals.

it's been said that, "you can't please everyone," "if you try to do everything, you do nothing well," and "stick to your knitting."

my biggest criticism is that they make far too many concessions to local tastes. for example- serving felafel with french fries and cole slaw??? i mean, seriously, people. not only that, but they refused to substitute rice for fries without an upcharge. petty and foolish.

i've had a few really good dishes there, but for the most part, it's pretty lame.

if you want seriously good middle-eastern food, don't waste your time at babylon. drive a few extra minutes and hit the mediterranean garden right off the old jonesborough road, in the old burlington mills building. they do it the right way!

love it. there are not to many places you can go to get great food in johnson city, as a formerrestaurantowner/chef i can sure tell when everything is made fresh from scratch, we brought our own wine and started with the hummus and pita bread and an eggplant salad it was marvelous also i highly recommend the leg of lamb fall off the bone tender, served with rice with white bean stew or eggplant stew i highly suggest the eggplant stew! i could eat the eggplant stew everyday it was so good. one other time we went and had an assortment of salads and i had such a hard time deciding which i liked best. i would give the food 5 stars. the atmosphere is plain but food and service make up for that . the best mediterranean food i had in many years and ive traveled the middle east before. i used to own the fourwinds tearoom when it first opened

give it a try. this is a little family-run middle eastern (specifically iraqi) restaurant. the people who have waited on us were extremely friendly and enthusiastic in making recommendations. i ordered the lamb shank and beans, baklava, and chai tea. i enjoyed all of it, but the lamb was phenomenal. the baklava was unlike greek baklava, and i'm not sure how best to describe it- but we enjoyed it. i look forward to returning to thisrestaurantoften.
