the best and freshest food in johnson city!. my husband and i visited babylon about two months ago and cannot stay away even for a week!! the chicken biryani is soooooo fresh and delicious. the shwarma is like a gyro in that it is a wrapped sandwich. it is also 2 -3 times the size of a gyro, so you get plenty to eat. babylon is also affordable. if you get water to drink, your bill for a shwarma - this is a wrapped sandwich- with a side will be under $6.50. so, a great lunch for me is a chicken tikka shwarma (sandwich) with water to drink. my bill comes under $6.50. folks, this is more food, good and fresh food than i have ever gotten anywhere else.

the staff at babylon are friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. if i have never heard of something on the menu -like okra stew- they will give me a little taste. the okra stew is fabulous! bottom line: best restaurant all around. life is too short to live without experiencing this wonderful diner~

eh.... i dined here once, the people were friendly and talkative, however the food was overpriced for the quality in my opinion. if you want to try it, give it a shot, but we prefer alfredo's food to babylon.

so bad!. i went there today to see if they had gyros. the female server said they do, but call it something else. i asked, "is it lamb?" yes, it is today! it wasn't lamb and nothing like a gyro.
but the worst part was... my bill came to $8.12. i gave her a $20. she had to go next door (nail salon) to make change. she gave me back $11.18. knowing that my change should have been $11.88, i asked again "what was my bill? she totally didn't understand basic math. she kept trying to explain something that made no sense. i left–never to go back.

i love babylon!!!. babylon is wonderful!! i have been many times over the last year and it is always good. the waitress is always friendly and very ready to suggest dishes for anyone who is not familiar with the menu. the hummus is homemade and tasty! you can sit inside or out on the patio in warm weather which is really nice. the lamb shank served with rice and vegetables is fantastic. the lamb literally falls off of the bone and you could eat the whole dish with a spoon! they have great turkish coffee and tea and it is a good place to try the hookah pipe that is available in many flavors on the patio. it has a very relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere and every time i go i leave with a to go box because i can never finish my plate!

i love this place. great food, the best hummus, and a nice patio in the summer or when it's nice outside. it's a nice location and in the middle of johnson city.

let me tell you an absolute fact: you will waste valuable time from your life trying to find a better lamb shank; amazingly perfect texture and subtly deep flavor in every strand. lamb shank is a favorite of mine and over the years i have paid between $35-$50 for plates that could not hold a candle to babylon's $20 version, especially considering how perfect the rice, eggplant, and whatever else you choose to eat here. you can pay more for ambiance and uselessly complex ingredient usage, but why not save that money for something else?

the food was babyl-off!. their meats are dry, tough, and oily. definitely re-heated or frozen. not to mention bland, super bland. gordon ramsay would have a field day. ill be passing on babylon restaurant.

i was very disappointed. their baklava was store bought and came with two tiny pieces for 3.50 and i bought a shawarma that came on a tortilla instead of pita... definitely not used to shawarma on tortillas. the seasoning was decent and the price was okay for their sandwiches but the other dishes were a bit pricey. not overdone, however, since i've seen a ton of expensive mediterannean/middle eastern cuisine.

at best, uneven.. i was excited to hear that a real mediterranean/middle-eastern restaurant was opening up in jc, but my excitement soon turned into disappointment after several underwhelming meals.

it's been said that, "you can't please everyone," "if you try to do everything, you do nothing well," and "stick to your knitting."

my biggest criticism is that they make far too many concessions to local tastes. for example- serving felafel with french fries and cole slaw??? i mean, seriously, people. not only that, but they refused to substitute rice for fries without an upcharge. petty and foolish.

i've had a few really good dishes there, but for the most part, it's pretty lame.

if you want seriously good middle-eastern food, don't waste your time at babylon. drive a few extra minutes and hit the mediterranean garden right off the old jonesborough road, in the old burlington mills building. they do it the right way!

great restaurant. i love babylon. the food is excellent and over the last year i have tried everything on the menu. shawarma has become my favorite and the eggplant stew is to die for. the pastries are always excellent. the staff are friendly and courteous and after a time or two there you feel like part of the family. you would have to go along way to find a better middle eastern restaurant.
