babbo's spaghetteria

90&?. how does thisplacehave a 90% rating from reviewers? they must have eaten at a different babbo's spaghetteria than the one where i ate on sunday (april 13). i liked the atmosphere and had high hopes when i went in. but the menu is surprisingly limited; i'm not sure if that's because it was a sunday or if they have so few appetizers, salads, and entrees every day. i had the caesar salad and lasagna, which the server recommended as "really good." the salad was a pretty ordinary caesar, the flavor wasn't bad, although there was too much dressing. but the lasagna was not what i expected. too much meat, not enough noodles and cheese, and the sauce was not rich and thick as is typically served with lasagna (or other traditional pasta dishes), but was thinner and not as flavorful. the portion was large, but if the dish isn't that good, all you have is more of something you don't like. i wouldn't go back.

nice little restaurant!. me and the missus were here last night, in part due to the excellent reviews on this site. at 5:30, on a saturday, theplacewas packed. standing room only packed, about a hundred customers. the service was fast, and efficient. we eat out a lot, and we watched the staff move and operate like a well-oiled machine. not in any particular rush to "churn" the guests, but just very efficient. the food came out hot, and excellent. i had a pizza, for $10, that was huge, with four toppings. best value anywhere for pizza. the missus had a chicken alfredo, which was also excellent, with large chunks of garlic. her sauce was a little thin, but still very good. we will be going back here soon, to try some of the other dishes. from what we could see, all portions sizes were very large, and with moderate prices, thisplacemay well become our "go to"placefor italian.

what a terrible first impression.  my wife and i drove 25 minutes to meet some friends and were excited to check thisplaceout.  walked through the door and even though there were 11 tables open and no line, we were told that we had to wait until our whole party got there- oh yea they don't take reservations.  so we decided to grab a glass of wine, no bar by they way.  then when we got the pour, it looks like they probably get 8 glasses out of a bottle.  very small.  i did kindly speak with the manager who informed me they were all the owner's rules and she couldn't do anything.  leaving now, such a shame. i don't even want to stay for dinner.  we chose thisplacefor the good reviews but are leaving for the crap service.

much like an osteria in italy. thisplaceis great and the wine selection is pretty darn good and available by the glass. love the super tuscan. risotto, lasagna, spaghetti & meatballs, and pizza are all fantastic. great service and although it can get noisy, it only adds to the charm and community of this small restaurant.

it's no secret that babbo's spaghetteria in chesterfield is a sibling of sugo's spaghetteria in frontenac. but the distance between the restaurants is considerably more than the 11 or so miles door to door. the crowd is different, even though the menu is similar, and the vibe is different, despite many similarities in the décor. a storefront with large windows, the tables and chairs are simple wood, the ceiling is high, and the walls painted the color of terra cotta. with theplacenearly full the night of our visit, we were surprised that it wasn't deafeningly noisy. not subdued, to be sure, but we could comfortably hear one another across the table. along one wall is a large and quite legible chalkboard menu, but fear not, there also are printed ones, and a wine list. the right-hand columns are a pleasant surprise. babbo's prices are extremely reasonable, with entrees beginning at $9. and most of the portions are of sufficient size to satisfy st. louis expectations about how much sh

food good service not so good. been twice food was very good both times. service second time was not. server didn't offer any bread and and did not come around very often. theplaceis nice but even for the price the service needs to step it up or it will become just anotherplacein the valley.

good food good service. i love this restaurant. the service has always been good. the food is super good. the price is perfect. every dish we have had at thisplaceis excellent. i am a retired chef and a big eater. i, and my business colleagues, have eaten here at least once a week for nearly a year. everything is good. huge portions of lasagna. meatballs are the size of softballs. if you had one bad experience here, go back. it was a weird fluke.
