for a very long time, i used to just come into avoca for the shop upstairs. i loved its quirkiness. then one day i decided to ramble down to theirfoodsection and discovered a whole little cafe underneath the shop, and have been popping in for a quick lunch ever since. it's at its best if you just want quickfoodto go, as you can grab a takeaway box and fill with whatever salad / hot dish you like. generally speaking its quite a health focused cafe, so there's loads of tasty veggie options around, and for dessert there's plenty of cakes and sweet treats to choose from. i picked the butternut squash salad plate myself, but my friend isobel decided to go for the falafel. both excellent choices. there were some coffees and custard tarts thrown into the mix for afterwards, and we left very happy customers, if not a tad stuffed. the only warning i'd give about the place is to be careful not to let your hungry stomach do too much of the guiding towards portion size - the salads are sold based on weight, and its all too easy to overfill your box and then be left with a hefty bill for your lunch. that happened me once, and i was left eating my lunch for the rest of the day (and it stayed in the fridge again for a day or two after...).
aside from that, it's a cute little place to meet friends and grab a coffee.
