be sure to leave room for dessert !. my girl and i made it over to avila's last week and loved it. she had the cheese stuffed chili rellenos and i had the gorditas with beef brisket. both dishes were excellent. the cheese they used to the chili rellenos was wonderful and stringy, the pepper was fresh and firm , not mushy like so many other joints. my beef brisket was moist and full flavored. the corn tortillas for the gorditas were fresh and homemade. the rice was firm and moist and didn't have that crappy pea and carrot mix in it - thank god! the refried beans were well seasoned and had a great texture. i saw several people getting the chicken mole. it looked great, i'm going to have to try it next visit (which will be very soon). theservicewas excellent, but the best thing was the bread pudding with the white chocolate sauce! might just be the best bread pudding we've ever had!

a favorite. i love this place. the food is amazing, the drinks are really good, and the staff is wonderful. parking is a bit tricky and some might think the area is a bit more urban than they like, but i would highly recommend anyone who loves good tex mex come here.

solid tex mex. after a long day travelling we stopped in an hour before closing on sunday night. friendlyservicewith chips and a nice spicy salsa was brought to the table promptly. got some guac which was very tasty the way i make mine. we shared a steak quesidilla and brisket taco plate. the top seller the two beef brisket tacos was great with shredded tender brisket nice beefy flavor all in a soft flour tortilla accompanied by refried beans and rice. the steak quesidilla was perfectly seasoned with sauteed peppers and onions all between a crisped up flour tortilla. the kicker was the white chocolate bread pudding with cinnamon liberally sprinkled about if anything a special trip just for this treat..

disappointed. i was in town on business and decided to try this palce since i saw it on food network. i think guy was way off base on this one. the queso was tasteless. it was the worst i've had. melted velveeta would have been better if that gives you an idea! i had a beef taco (it was good) a cheese enchilada (average) and beans. everything seemed a bit blah. i did like the salsa. i thought it had the right amount of heat and it tasted fresh. myservicewas fantastic. i wish the food was as good as the service.

just... okay.. we love ddd, so on our latest jaunt to the big d, we headed to avila's for lunch. we went around 2:00, so it was after the rush. theservicewas... annoyed by our presence? i can't explain it- i didn't feel welcome, though we were clearly very happy to be there and tried to be friendly and appreciative to the waitstaff. my husband had fish tacos and said they were very good, but my fajita enchiladas were just okay. the beef was tough and the queso sauce was lukewarm. i liked the tender-crisp onions and peppers inside, and the chicken was okay.

however.... the salsa was awesome. i would give the place another try if there weren't so many other places in dallas to explore.

do it!!. we saw the show on 'triple d' and so we had to go. i'm originally from new mexico so when guy said that these guys had posole, i had to go. i'm not a fan of tex mex, not my bag, too many spices without any heat. posole is what my family makes during the holidays and i always miss mi abuela and mi mama.
so we made the trip from lewisville to check it out. we were not disappointed. everything that i have had there is top notch! i see people who were complaining about theservicetoo. i have had nothing but great service. i have a 15 month old that the staff loves and he loves the food and the staff back! it's a regular stop now with my wife and baby.

very good food. *update* stopped here last week for dinner at the original place now run by the family, and the brisket tacos remain delicious and divine, serviceis vastly improved, and salsa is still tasty. kudos to all involved.

quality meals, not overly large portions, brisket tacos are delicious, so are the many specials on the board. the tamales are dry, and service, when the place is busy, can be spotty. this place is best of all the maple mex eateries, unless you really want to go "authentic".
