be sure to leave room for dessert !. my girl and i made it over to avila's last week and loved it. she had the cheese stuffed chili rellenos and i had the gorditas with beef brisket. both dishes were excellent. the cheese they used to the chili rellenos was wonderful and stringy, the pepper was fresh and firm , not mushy like so many other joints. my beef brisket was moist and full flavored. the corn tortillas for the gorditas were fresh and homemade. the rice was firm and moist and didn't have that crappy pea and carrot mix in it - thank god! the refried beans were well seasoned and had a great texture. i saw several people getting the chicken mole. it looked great, i'm going to have to try it next visit (which will be very soon). the service was excellent, but the best thing was the bread pudding with the white chocolate sauce! might just be the best bread pudding we've ever had!

a favorite. i love this place. the food is amazing, the drinks are really good, and the staff is wonderful. parking is a bit tricky and some might think the area is a bit more urban than they like, but i would highly recommend anyone who loves good tex mex come here.

ddd's finest. i saw this restaurant on ddd on food network. i had the flour tortilla nachos and a mango margarita. it was great! the mango margarita was a lil syrupy, but it was still delish.

outstanding food! would eat here often.. these just might be the best chicken fajitas i've ever had--and i eat chicken fajitas pretty much every week. i'm picky. these are perfectly seasoned, top-quality chicken breast meat (no weird trimmings or tough bits; every strip of fajitas chicken was perfect). lots of marinated peppers and onions, too. flour tortillas were hot, freshly-made. the restaurant is small, tidy, and clean. servers are bilingual, friendly, and fast! i wish i could eat here regularly; this would be my new tex-mex place. (watch out for intensely spicy salsa, though!)

we were in dallas and wanted mexican food. i looked up guy fieri's website and found a list of all the restaurants he reviewed on his tv program. one old program mentioned avila's on maple avenue. we decided to visit. the food was great. the best was the tamale with this fantastic sauce. the chili relleno was very good. no beers on tap, but the usual bottled beers from south of the border. the restaurant was full of people so the word is out that it is the place to go. the restaurant is worth the trip

this place has been a north dallas staple for as long as i can remember. all their food is fantastic, but if you go at lunch be prepared to wait. try the patricia’s.

went on a saturday night. kept it simple as we both had the chicken rellanos. excellent tex mex. service, considering the crowd, was attentive and polite. a good value for a wonderful evening.

this is a small restaurant tucked away on maple avenue. you could easily miss it if you weren't looking for it.

i came here as it was on my to do list as recommended for the brisket tacos.

i was greeted warmly at the door and sat down straight away. a bowl of corn chips and spicy salsa was plonked down in front of me straightaway. i had a soda and it was constantly topped up for me. i ordered the brisket tacos (3) (flour tortilla filled with brisket, served with pico de gallo and guacamole). the server advised i could have flour or corn tortillas and chose the flour ones. it was also served with rice, beans, and lettuce too. the portion was generous and the brisket was soft and tender. i just wish there was more seasoning.

a bit out of the way from central dallas there may be slightly better choices if looking for tex mex food.

it's been years since i've been to avila's. as we sat down today, i began to think that things had gone downhill. no chips, no salsa and no menus. luckily, the owner noticed, swooped in and took care of business. enchiladas for me and shrimp tacos for my son. their salsa is some of the best around. my favorite meal here is the brisket chile relleno. thanks guys for a great meal!

while i felt bad that my colleague didn't appear to like his lunch while he was eating, he's since assured me that he's had time to figure that he really liked what he had to eat that day.   i have to say that my lunch at avila's was simply outstanding.  it was one of the more interesting and great tasting mexican restaurants i've ever visited. everything was so fresh and authentic, so much unlike chain restaurants that "american-ize" mexican food most of the time.  the brisket enchiladas and the brisket tacos were tremendous.  i love little family restaurants like avila's and even with the turmoil that ensued a few years back, this  was one of the best mexican meals i've ever had.  cedia will be back in dallas in september and i will definitely be going back to avila's - even if it's just for the beans!

very good, very, very hot pico! good margaritas & service! brisket was odd to see on the menu and was not like a southern brisket but good.
