good. fresh hot chips and salsa: my girlfriend has just said she wanted something spicy and the good lord delivered. not for the weak.
tortilla soup: i'm not into celery and no lime and cilantro, but it was pleasant nonetheless.
guy's brisket tacos: these were actually totally great.
fish tacos: skip these. it's tilapia fish sticks really, but ask for a side of the jalapeño cilantro dressing that comes with them (yummmm) to put on your brisket tacos

don't believe triple d. i ate here because it was featured on diners drive ins and dives. i was not impressed! the salsa was too spicy. if you're going to have a spicy salsa like that, you should offer a milder version. the chips were from a bag and warmed up!! my fajita enchiladas were drowned in queso but flavorful . the shrimp enchiladas were a little light on flavor and were a 5/10. all in all it's average tex-mex, nothing spectacular or elevated.

amazingly fresh mexican food!!!. i love this restaurant! the drinks and food are amazing! my personal favorite is the limon margarita. the only one in the area that i know of and taste like no other. i enjoy coming here because of the casual atmosphere. also, the bartender and waitstaff are very friendly.

the food is delish...i always order the brisket tacos. this is no ordinary brisket tacos, it is perfect ration of brisket, tortilla, pico de gallo, and guacamole. it will make you a believer.

as and appetizer we order the flour nachos. there is no other restaurant in dallas that has does them better then avila's

if you have not been to avila's, i highly recommend you make a trip soon. it is hands down the best mexican restaurant in dfw.

this week for meal of food friday, we ventured to avila's restaurant near downtown dallas. by a narrow margin, avila's beat out cozymel's (which i voted for) and jojo eating house. avila's is near where my husband works, so we decided to save gas and meet at the restaurant rather than riding together. no problem, right? well, i'm not known for my keen sense of direction. i let my google maps app guide me and i got a little lost. i ended up about a block down from where i was supposed to be outside of an extremely sketchy restaurant with bars on the windows. i get out, go to the door and in a space of 5 seconds, i opened the front door, peeked inside, closed the door and was back in my car. i called a friend who is known for his keen sense of direction, and he was able to help me get back on track. just so you all know, the avila's is a converted house and this is what the sign looks like: do not enter a building with bars on the windows on the next block down.

solid tex mex. after a long day travelling we stopped in an hour before closing on sunday night. friendly service with chips and a nice spicy salsa was brought to the table promptly. got some guac which was very tasty the way i make mine. we shared a steak quesidilla and brisket taco plate. the top seller the two beef brisket tacos was great with shredded tender brisket nice beefy flavor all in a soft flour tortilla accompanied by refried beans and rice. the steak quesidilla was perfectly seasoned with sauteed peppers and onions all between a crisped up flour tortilla. the kicker was the white chocolate bread pudding with cinnamon liberally sprinkled about if anything a special trip just for this treat..

homestyle tex-mex cooking perfectly describes avila's fine food .  small and cozy tables but large on flavor and ingredients.  papito's special  one cheese enchilada, one beef taco, one soft cheese taco, and a guacamole tostada, rice and beans

some of the best tex-mex i've had. the queso was delicious as well as the enchiladas mexicanas. margaritas could have a little more punch to them.
