ariccia italian trattoria

visit on 4/19/14. service was horrible. it is so sad, they do not understand customer service! we will not be back and i will continue to tell people of my experience. i was very disappointed !

a huge disappointment. what a shame that this wonderful hotel that we often stay at has such a lousy restaurant. the service was painfully slow and the food was less than marginal. several things were so bad we could not even eat them and they did not offer to take anything off our bill so i am spending $300 for the family to eat bad food. on a brighter note the bar and bar food was not bad and breakfast was good. i just will not be eating dinner here again.

seems convenient because of the hotel upstairs...come for breakfast!! but do not come for dinner.


we arrived and loved the decor, very nice looking.

for breakfast, the buffet had all you might want cooked nicely. after eating dinner here, we were so hesitant to stay for breakfast but it was fabulous! (see hoot of the small yogurt parfait). it's very obvious that they have a breakfast chef and a different chef for dinner.

however, dinner was another experience completely. once we were seated, it was all downhill. we were given bread infused with olives served with salt and oil. the salt did improve the bread taste, but it was very intense olive flavor, stronger than even a kalamata olive but more intense. it's only worth eating if you're extremely hungry.

the caesar salad was very light on dressing, but it was delicious.

but then, while waiting for our food, we heard a nearby table ask if "the desserts had salt on them too" and were puzzled, until our food came.

the entrees would have been delicious if not for the over salting. the one entree that was not assaulted by salt included a chicken breast with an attached wing, it was cooked nicely but given only a blunt butter knife it was almost impossible to cut and eat.

upon leaving, we resorted to eating raisins to rid the salt flavor from our tongues, the feeling can be described as "licking a road that's been salted for snow."

for the most part, the service was good, except we weren't given any refills.

if you can deal with subpar service, eating mounds of salt, and a hurt tongue after, this is the place for you.

not good. the calamari was over battered and over cooked to the point of rubbery. the rolls were with raw dough in the center. the service was below average. not worth the money.

the food and service get worse every visit. time to move on.

havent had brunch here but have heard it is good...has to be better than dinner. butternut squash soup was awful...how is it not strained...?!? pulpy grossness..very uninspired and un imagnitive dining experience

we have been two times there. staff is friendly but they forgot our carpaccio, and the wine. dont even try the risotto milanese. the spaghetti bolognese was terrible. the restaurant has no atmosphere at all.

more for looks. as a local, i've never tried arricia because they were known for such high prices and even noted in the local highschool paper the food was seen as mediocre. i went for dinner with a date and found the atmosphere beautiful, the server was very kind, attentive, and very well-mannered. i wasn't very impressed the the menu items since they aren't very original and aren't described any differently than those at a chain. however, i ordered the salmon which was plated beautifully and tasted even better. my date told me about their sunday brunch and chocolate bar that they also offer there. i wouldn't give this place a bad review --- menu items weren't completely outrageous. around $25< ... i think it's worth the atmosphere, great service, and good food.

we thouroughly enjoyed ourselves both times we have tried this. the staff is friendly and food slow, but worth the wait

average food at high prices. why pay lots for food that is no better than a chain?

food doesn't match the price. high priced and simply average food. mediocre service. use the other options available in auburn.

excellent brunch, decent (but overpriced) dinner.. i usually eat here after all of the home football games on sunday mornings... they know how to do a brunch right. great smoked salmon and raw oysters, top-notch omelet chef, lots of good cold salads and respectable salad bar. breakfast items are always good, and "specials' rotate.

dinner, on the other hand, isn't bad, but nothing special. with a somewhat hefty price-tag, i have to think there is more bang for your buck elsewhere on the plains. i had the veal scaloppini last friday night... it wasn't "good to great", but "good not great."

sunday brunch. i enjoyed their sunday brunches when i lived in auburn. some of the food selections were different almost every time i went. one of my favorite parts was the "jazz band" that played while we ate.

overpriced. they try very hard to make this a nice restaurant, but they fail. the food is hit or miss in my many visits over the years. last visit was for their sunday morning brunch and i along with my guest were disappointed. there were no real bagels to go with the salmon and capers, only dried bagel chips and no cream cheese. there was only an omelet station and no waffle station, which has been a staple of theirs in the past. was not worth the 15 bucks a person. sad and disappointing as this should be a flagship restaurant in auburn.

lunch is fine, dinner is a disaster. seriously, the lunch buffet at ariccia is pretty good. sometimes you get lucky and its delicious, and sometimes they get ambitious and screw things up-- but there's always the salad, cheese, and dessert selection to save your meal.

but dinner time is horrible. we went once for dinner, and got tough veal and from-a-box risotto, as well as clumsy service and a crappy table.
