i've been here three times, but only eaten here once. the one time i did eat here, it was delicious. please be sure that you're not in a hurry though. it took close to two hours for two people to get breakfast and a check. again, the food was good, which is why i tried to go two additional times. flash forward to visit two, i was told that they were really busy and it would "take a long time to serve" me. there were maybe 10 people there. based on my first visit, i was afraid of what "a long time" would be. i thanked them anyhow and left. third visit, similar story. about 10 people were in the restaurant, plenty of open tables. we were told we could sit outside and patiently waited, and waited. the group next to us got up and left (not sure when they got there, but didn't see anyone acknowledge them either). the moment they left, a waitress came out and straightened their chairs, grabbed their menus, then promptly whenbackinside. she didn't seem to notice that we had also been sitting there for over 15 minutes without even asking us for our drink order. the entire operation has little to no organization. no one knows what is going on, no one cares about taking care of customers, and frankly it seems as though they would prefer not to deal with you. again, the food is good. so if you have to try it, maybe call your order in and pick it up the next day. otherwise, you need to win some sort of lotto to get served here.

quinticenial hole in the wall

if there is a restaurant that defines the term hole in the wall this is it. it is off the beaten path, has very little seating/parking, has a unique vibe and the food is amazing. we ordered a fat stack of blueberry pancakes and added blueberries on top and powdered sugar, an omelet, bacon, 2 orange juices, coffee and a latte. first things first. it takes a lot to impress me with blueberry pancakes. it is my favorite thing to eat for breakfast and when i travel i always look for good places that serve them. these rank among the best i have ever had. they didn’t even need syrup or whipped cream. they were thick, fluffy, sweet and just all around amazing. i split 3 pancakes with my two kids and we couldn’t eat half of it they are so big and thick. the pancakes alone are worth coming for. the bacon was crisp and everything i was looking for. coffee was good. my wife thought the omelet was just alright. she also thought the latte was good. biscuits were very good and grits are very spicy. the decor is very off beat and interesting. adds a lot to the experience. there is very limited seating and parking so probably not the best place for a group larger than 4. our bill was $30 before tip. this is the kind of place i would plan my trip around and we will definitely bebackwhen we come through.

tucked away in a hiddenbackally this place isnt somewhere you might just pass by and stop at. it’s definitely worth looking for. wonderful food here! atmosphere was unique for me as there were alcoholic beverages being served for breakfast, but the food was so good! if you can stand the drinkers around you (some after hours ppl/drunkenness occasionally) the food is as uniquely delicious as the environment is weird. 😂 i’ll always go there as long as they’re serving up food this good. never been for lunch or dinner.

one of our favorite things about where we currently live is that an 8-minute drive takes us to prentice cooper state park where we have a network of trails (totaling 35 miles) at our disposal.backin october we attempted the hike to mushroom rock. but instead found ourselves wandering in the woods for a couple of hours, missing the turn that would have lead us to the giant shaped mushroom in the forest.

what was guy thinking?. i was drivingbackto ga from nashville and decided to take a detour through i was drivingbackto ga from nashville and decided to take a detour through chattanooga in order to try out one of guy's stop he made. aretha frankensteins promises the most amazing waffles in the area, and i was looking forward to having my mind blown. i arrived at 3:20p, and was welcomed with a sour face looking at me like, "what the hell do you want and why are you even here?". needless to say, i found out they don't make fresh waffles to order anymore (pre-make them in the am because their waffle cooker breaks constantly) per the server who took my order. there were flies everywhere, which almost took my attention away from the horrendous music they had blasting over the speakers (death metal of some sort including where i could only make out the swear words playing in the front with reggae jam playing in the kitchen -- no door separating the two thus the bleed between the two was awful.) server turned a leaf and ended up being more civil. unfortunately, that didn't make the food taste better.

the disappointment was strong, as i absolutely

this was my first time, and i have always heard about their waffles & pancakes, but their waffle makers weren't working and i am not a pancake kind of man. i got eggs, bacon, biscuit, fried potatoes, grits, & a coffee. it was good, i really liked the potatoes. the biscuit you can tell was microwaved due to how freakin hot it was and how rubbery it felt. the grits were good, tasted like they already had hot sauce in them. all in all, pretty good. cost me $12.56, which is pretty steep. i want to comebackand try one if those waffles.

good food, horrible service-not a good mix. aretha frankenstein's was my first stop when i arrived in chattanooga. i was really looking forward to dining here because of how reputable they are amongst tourists and locals. i've heard the pancakes and waffles here a must order and that the storefront is an adorable light blue colored house. luckily, when i came by, it wasn't busy and i didn't have to wait in line like i've read-must've missed the lunch rush. anyways, the inside of the restaurant is pretty crammed and tight-there are four small tables, followed by the bar seating. i won't go into depth about the service (blog post will be up soon-check it out for more detail), but i will say that it was horrible-was never greeted, and my server had a bad attitude the entire time i was there-i felt as if i was being a huge burden on him, but he had no problem chit chatting with the customers next to me. any who, i loved the shrimp and grits here! for under $10, which is nearly impossible to beat in terms of the price, there were 5 succulent pieces of shrimp, on a bed of creamy grits with cheese, bacon and red+green bell peppers. also, it's supposed to come with a biscuit, but because my server failed to mention that biscuits were sold out (when it's only 11am or so), i was given buttered toast. as great as my meal was, it was easily ruined by the horrendous service i've received (and by the looks of the review, it seems to be a common issue). i hope they make some serious changes with their service soon-i might make another tripbackto see if it's gotten any better but for now, there's nothing making me want to comeback:(

won't be back. this place is a disaster. i am honestly now sure how it stays in business. it seemed to me that if you weren't "one of them" meaning a thrift store shopping, north chatt. living, micro brew especial, bicycle riding, skinny jean, ray-ban wayfarers, and tom's wearing kind of person they didn't care for you or your business. a quick trip for a bite to eat turned into be one of the worst events i've ever had at a restaurant. there were 4 of us and it took us 10-15 minutes to be acknowledged let alone to be sat while there was only a handful of people there, most of which were up on the porch using the free wi-fi and drinking beer, so tables were plentiful to say the least. i ordered a beer and another person with me order chocolate milk and it took 30 minutes just to get that. then there was the food, which wasn't bad but it wasn't anything to write home about either. to make a long story short, i usually tip 20-25% and i left a nickel for the waiter and won't bebackagain... you want a good breakfast? go to longhorn on market street or even waffle house is better and the service is night and day compared to frankenstein’s.

the host (or waiter) was rude. when we first walked in a waitress offered us a seat in the corner. i had to check with my group because we had dogs with us and had been planning to sit outside. when i walkedbackin someone was sitting there(which is fine) but another waiter said it would be an hour wait and then added the comment we would have to be all on 1 check. people were finishing up their meals and no one else was waiting. it seemed to me he didn't want to wait on my large family. we will not go there again. no biscuit is worth being treated like you don't belong.

acutally got awesome service!. i have always loved the food at aretha frankenstein's. super fresh eggs, etc. love the atmosphere. historically i had mediocre to super slow service which i suspect was because of the kitchen. went there the afternoon of christmas eve 2012 to meet a friend for a late lunch and received awesome, nay perfect and fast service. thank you thank you thank you waitress and cook (and i feel like an idiot for not remembering your name). i'll bebacksooner than later to see if this happens again. and yes the biscuits are still ginormous!

skip it!. ok, just to get it out there, this place is a dive bar that serves breakfast foods.

parking is hell, do not try to park in what appears to be a small parking lot behind the restaurant. only after you turn in is there a sign that says "no parking". my car has plenty of ground clearance, and it bottomed out and couldn't get traction on thebacktires trying to getbackout.

we ate here on 7/6/12, arrived around 11:30 p.m., the waitress was still very accomodating and agreed to seat us so close to closing time. we ordered blueberry pancakes and a breakfast burrito. we wanted to try the waffle, but the waffle iron had been broken for a few days. the burrito was good, nothing special, but good, and the price was right. the fried potatoes were dry. i don't know what all the rave reviews about the pancakes were for. they were very eggy, over-cooked, had a weird texture and not much flavor.

the decor is actually pretty cool. there are lots of interesting things. however, every table we saw was dirty. ours was sticky. they weren't very busy, so the tables should have at least been clean. the floors looked like they hadn't seen a mop in a while. there was a weird, shirtless guy that kept walking into thebackroom and kitchen area.

i wouldn't recommend this place.
