great place if you have time. this is not the place to go if you are in a rush. it is very small and it is somewhat of a novelty, so be prepared to wait.

however, if you have some time on your hands and want a unique dining experience, i would highly recommend aretha's. it has an eclectic atmosphere and staff, and the food is simply the best breakfast food you will ever put in your mouth.

i've been here three times, but only eaten here once. the one time i did eat here, it was delicious. please be sure that you're not in a hurry though. it took close to two hours for two people to get breakfast and a check. again, the food was good, which is why i tried to go two additional times. flash forward to visit two, i was told that they were really busy and it would "take a long time to serve" me. there were maybe 10 people there. based on my first visit, i was afraid of what "a long time" would be. i thanked them anyhow and left. third visit, similar story. about 10 people were in the restaurant, plenty of open tables. we were told we could sit outside and patiently waited, and waited. the group next to us got up and left (not sure when they got there, but didn't see anyone acknowledge them either). the moment they left, a waitress came out and straightened their chairs, grabbed their menus, then promptly when back inside. she didn't seem to notice that we had also been sitting there for over 15 minutes without even asking us for our drink order. the entire operation has little to no organization. no one knows what is going on, no one cares about taking care of customers, and frankly it seems as though they would prefer not to deal with you. again, the food is good. so if you have to try it, maybe call your order in and pick it up the next day. otherwise, you need to win some sort of lotto to get served here.

as much as people talk about this place i feel like it was once something much better than it is now. location is awful, parking is awful, it's tiny, slow, the wait staff realizes the wait and does nothing to make it any better.

our food was really good though. i'm not sure what the mass appeal of aretha frankensteins is, the pancakes were the best pancakes i have ever tasted, but my omelet was standard. are the world's best pancakes really worth a 2 hour wait? i had a positive experience, but i can see how it could have been a nightmare. so i would say if you have a wide open morning, want a great breakfast, and don't mind hipsters not caring if you have a table or food, it's worth a visit.

i love aretha's! it's def worth the wait and to the people who complain about the wait if you want fast service go to macdonalds or chillis or something. it's about the event of dining and being with friends! also best philly ive had.

a friend wanted to go to aretha frankensteins while we were in town. we went and i wasn't impressed. the biscuits didn't seem to be fresh. in fact they seemed to be microwaved. staff was nice and food was hot but not really all that good.

great food slow as ...molasses?. the first time we went here we were warned that the service sucks. i have been here a ton of times and i always like to take guests to this place however before going i warn everyone that the wait will be anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours and then once you sit down the service is slow. everything i have ever had here is amazing and it frustrates me to think how well this place would do if they got their management together. if you ever go to this place notice that all the hippies in the kitchen take a smoke break every 5 minutes at the same time,,,that's why the wait is forever.....

worst. service. ever.. this place is not worth the wait or the treatment you have to go through just to get mediocre food. i realize they try to tell you everything is scratch-made, but the biggest reason for the wait is they hire people who simple do not care that they're in the service industry. their job is to take orders and make food. not sit around and wait for their hangovers to subside.

wonderful food but spotty service. if you're willing to endure that one negative, then you'll surely enjoy the unique selection this uncanny eatery offers. it is also a nice place to enjoy a beer outside on a sweet summer night,, until everyone else reads this and decides to do the same.

great atmosphere - mediocre food. my husband and i wanted to try aretha frankensteins after we saw it featured on the food network. we arrived around 2pm, so we were seated immediately...though they had up many signs with guidelines on how to wait for a table. i ordered an omelet with potatoes and a biscuit. nothing to complain about, but nothing to write home about either. the atmosphere was very fun and unique....but other than that, it was a so-so experience.
