though i was born and raised in rhode island, i had not been back for many years so my first lunch of the trip had to be rhode island clam chowder and clam cakes. i checked online reviews and decided to give anthony's a try. the parking lot was almost full which is always agoodsign, though the exterior (and interior) are hardly impressive. you walk through the seafood market section and get in line to order and pay. a hostess seats you, in our case a booth with a lovely view of the parking lot and the food is brought to our table. the clam chowder was filled with red potatoes and several morsels of clam though the underlying flavor of clam was at best described as muted. the clam cakes were hot, oil light, but again did not overly impress with clam flavor. i am glad i ordered both, but i am not sure i would return. on the way out i checked the "fresh" fish case and again, i was not impressed.
