best seafood in newport area. leave the crowds behind in newport and drive up the hill to anthony's. great seafood, as fresh as you can get and a pleasant place to eat.

pesto salmon is great. coleslaw great. lobster excellent
you have to order at counter then they bring it to the table
great value for the money.

though i was born and raised in rhode island, i had not been back for many years so my first lunch of the trip had to be rhode island clam chowder and clam cakes. i checked online reviews and decided to give anthony's a try. the parking lot was almost full which is always a good sign, though the exterior (and interior) are hardly impressive. you walk through the seafood market section and get in line to order and pay. a hostess seats you, in our case a booth with a lovely view of the parking lot and the food is brought to our table. the clam chowder was filled with red potatoes and several morsels of clam though the underlying flavor of clam was at best described as muted. the clam cakes were hot, oil light, but again did not overly impress with clam flavor. i am glad i ordered both, but i am not sure i would return. on the way out i checked the "fresh" fish case and again, i was not impressed.

great fresh seafood, rhode island clam chowder the best, their fried seafood is light and crisp, soft flaky fish inside. only the fries were over done. but it is the seafood we love.

my experience was horrible! the restaurant was extremely crowded i could barely walk without bumping into someone's arm. secondly my family ordered a grilled cheese fries clam chowder and fish and chip, now i don't know exactly how much time we waited for the food to arrive but to give you an idea the man sitting in front of us ate a whole plate of crab legs and still no food. and a family of 2 parents and at least 5 kids finished and no food. my dad finally got up and complained that the food was taking too long and the waiter said that it was a "normal" amount of time to wait with the restaurant so crowded. and when the food finally arrived the fries weren't even that good. not to mention that there was a huge mosquito problem, there were at least 5 mosquitos at the same table.

you've got to stop here!!! talk about amazing fresh seafood! i've tried the new england clam chowder, the portuguese fish chowder and lobster rolls that all blew away the competition. i will make it a point to come back here whenever i'm in new england.

if you are in middletown, you must stop here. not only for bragging rights, but for some of the most fresh seafood that you will find in the area. they also offer takeout, and have a deli counter filled with fresh seafood and other goodies

absolutely delicious fried sea scallops, fried clams, and the french fries, believe it or not, are incredible! crisp on the outside and soft on the inside! my husband had the ne clam chowder and a grilled swordfish steak sandwich. it was an inch thick and incredibly delicious! even the slaw was good, but i could only force down a couple bites as i was so full from the rest of my delicious meal! i'd definitely recommend this place!

no frills seafood. this is as good as it can get. fresh seafood done right at a fair price. this place simply can't be beat. low key and tasty. downside is that the parking lot is always full.

overall everything we had was very good. went to anthony's based on seeing their fried clams on food network. they were out of clam strips at 1:15 during lunch. told would have to come to dinner if we wanted clam strips. only shortcoming. good, fresh seafood.

great seafood at a great price!. if you are looking for fine dining with the romantic setting, you won't find that here! but what you will find is incredible seafood at an incredible price. anthony's is a seafood restaurant/fish market. as soon as you walk in the door, you see the cases of fresh seafood for purchase. they had some of the biggest shrimp i have ever seen before in my life! the largest shrimp they have are $19.99/lb. which i think equaled approximately 10 shrimp. we ended up getting shrimp two sizes smaller than those, took them home and grilled them up--delicious!

if you decide you would like to eat at anthony's, you order/pay at the counter, and then when your food is ready, someone will bring it out to you at your table. there are cups of markers and pages to draw on for the kids, while you wait for your meal. if you do not want to order a soft drink, you can ask for a carafe of water (no charge).

i ordered fish tacos for lunch one day, thinking i would get two small little tacos like you would normally find at a place like tgifridays or applebees. wrong! they brought out my plate and i saw two huge overstuffed tacos with a couple pieces of fried flounder, black bean salsa, cheese, tomato, and lettuce in each tortilla. it also came with fries and a small cup of coleslaw, and a small cup of sauce to put on the tacos. i thought $9.99 for my tacos was an excellent deal for the amount of food, and it was cheaper than tgifridays or applebees, plus, it tasted so much better!

my husband got the shore dinner which had mussels, clams, corn, red potatos, and chourico (sausage). i can't remember exactly how much his was, but i think it was around $15.99.

they do have a kids menu with fish and non-fish items. our son ended up getting the macaroni and cheese ($3.99), and ate it all. nothing else was included with his meal, but after his bowl of mac and cheese, i don't think he could have eaten another thing.

while they do have a dessert menu, we were just too full after eating our meals to try anything from it!

the staff is friendly, and i felt like i was eating at a local place and not some tourist trap with inflated prices for mediocre food. this was a really great place and at these prices, i can see myself coming back again and again in the future when i visit the area.
