pizza well "burnt". the atmosphere was pleasant and the restaurant was very clean. while i do enjoy pizza with a little char from a woodfiredoven, this pizza's crust was completely black just beyond the toppings. after eating this "traditional pie," the taste of charcoal lingered well after the taste of other ingredients had dissipated. when we paid the bill, we asked if it was possible to receive a pizza that was not so "well done." the waitress replied with some resignation that they could not control this due to the oven's heat. it appeared that this was a common issue.
after the meal, we went to the yogurt place next door in an attempt to wash the burnt taste from our mouths. there, we found through our conversations, that our experience was not unique as crusts burned to black was the norm and not particularly popular with many patrons.

awesome. if anything, stop in there and get a couple of meatballs as an appetizer. sooo good. an 80 year old italian long island recipe, made in house. super staff, killer meatballs and awesome coalfiredpizza and personable and fun manager that wants your visit to be perfect.
behind chili's at dale mabry and lake shore drive.
great fun on a crowded friday night, or on a sunday afternoon for a ball game on tv.
a treasure in carrollwood for sure.

i had the pleasure last week of attending a tweetup in carrollwood hosted by metromix and anthony's coalfiredpizza . the #welldonemix event hashtag was a play on anthony coalfiredpizza's catch phrase "our pizza is well done". the event was a tasty networking event. when i came inside i was greeted by metromix employees and won an awesome bag filled with swag, such as t-shirts, a cup, plastic shot glass, and more as one of the first seven people to arrive. in the back of the restaurant, anthony's provided pizza, meatballs, wings, and salad for visitors at no cost to tweeters. my personal favorite was the "fresh mozzarella, sliced tomato, and basil" with no sauce. normally i don't enjoy pizza without tomato sauce, but this pizza tasted as fresh as its name and wasn't heavy or greasy. although i do enjoy greasy pizzas at times, i don't the stomachache i get later that day, and the food at anthony's left me feeling great. the pizza had a thin crust and was cooked just right. my second

this place has class!. if you've read any of my other reviews, you might pick up on a common gripe i have with restaurants where the service is less than spectacular. not the case with anthony's coalfiredpizza.

first things first, when you walk in, you're greeted by both the hostess and the manager who seemed to both genuinely care that you were there. we were promptly seated and the server came around in no time a limited draft beer selection, but a good number of bottles to choose from, including a few craft beers that i was surprised they had.

the menu is simple and straight forward. it's a pizza restaurant. build your own, or choose from one of their preset options. we opted for one of the specialty pizzas that had sausage, peppers, meatballs, and ricotta cheese. it was delicious. their claim to fame are the coalfiredovens, which certainly gave the crust some crunch. just the right amount of cheese, and a tangy fresh tomato sauce. i've seen a few of the other reviewers on here complain that they're overpriced - but for me and a friend to be able to go out to dinner with drinks and have the bill come out to under $30 i felt it was fairly priced. i would like to see some additional specialty pizzas added to the menu though.

now to the headline of my review. from the moment i walked into the restaurant, i realized it had class. from the decor with white walls, black and white photos, and dark wood tables - to the fact that most of their drinks are served in a bottle with a glass of ice - to the samples of their latest pizza creation that they walked around letting customers sample, it was a great experience. i really wish there were more restaurants around the tampa area that tried to create the upscale new york italian feel while keeping prices reasonable as they do.

well done. and not just in the sense of their tagline of "pizza well done"

best pizza in tampa. my wife and i are both unanimous that anthony's is the best pizza that we have ever had period. i grew up in the midwest on great deep-dish pizza like buddy's pizza in dearborn and uno's pizzeria in chicago and i never understood why my friends from new york raved about their pizza until i first tried anthony's coalfiredpizza in carrollwood. they bake their pies in a coal-fired oven at 800 degrees, which sears in the flavor and gives the crust a nice char, and make their sauce with fresh plum tomatoes and top with fresh whole milk mozz. it is so simple, but yet the flavors are amazing! the crust is a perfect balance of thin, but not too thin and you can taste the freshness. also, i have never been a fan of wings, but their coal-fired wings topped with caramelized onions are awesome too! everyone that come to visit us from out of town, always get taken to anthony's. a++

delicious delivery!!. due to being in close proximity to the restaurant, my party and i were able to order delivery to the world of beer carrollwood, which was in the same plaza. so i cannot vouch for the atmosphere of the restuarant but after eating more than my share of slices of anthony's coalfiredpizza, who cares what the place looks like??

eating the pizza at anthony's was a symphony of smells and textures and tastes. the crust was thin with a thin-to-medium crust edge that was charred but not overly so. i could still smell the garlic and oil that was used to coat the crust's edge. the sauce was fresh and light (perhaps they use marzano canned tomatoes???) and delicate but not without hints of subtle tomato and basil and olive oil flavor. the cheese was perfectly toasted for a nice mixture of crunch and gooiness and the italian sausage was a nice hearty mix of fennel and oregano, which was scattered in a perfect amount over the pizza.

i am in love! will any other pizza joint in carrollwood even stand up close to this restaurant? i highly doubt it...

nice, but not for me. anything coming out of a coalfiredoven is going to be good. the pizza here is really nice, the crust especially so. but the atmosphere isn't really what i look for in a pizza place.

the highlight of my meal was the eggplant marino. i definitely recommend that. but the wings... not so much.

i really love pizza, and have not yet done the dish justice on this blog. i need to fix that. and in an effort to do just that, i happily visited anthony's coalfiredpizza , on the corner of dale mabry and fletcher. anthony's is apparently a chain of ups

very tasty. being that pizza is one of the most popular things to eat in the u.s. there is always a lot to choose from. this is a more authentic pizza. its decently thin, and cooked in a coalfiredoven. that method leaves a little char on the pizza which i think adds flavor and character. the sauce and cheese they use is great. i must also mention the wings. they are baked in the same coal oven and have such wonderful flavor (rosemary and garlic) there are 3 of these in the general area. the carrollwood one is kinda hidden, so be heads up when looking for it.

anthony's coalfiredwings!. if you ae looking for the real deal on pizza night, then this is it. coalfiredovens at 800 degrees ads flavor galore. after all it was coal fire ovens that made ray's famous in new york. the pizza is very good with fresh ingredience and worth the trip, but the wings knocked me out. no sauce, but baked in flavor of herbs and spices. fall off the bone tender topped with carmalized onions. like no other place. a++

foodies alert: new "coal fired" pizza hot spot in tampa!. it's all in the coal fire ! mouth watering pizza!

the first tampa bay area location of a south florida favorite (i now know). according to their brochure, owner anthony bruno started anthony's runway 84 in south florida 25 years ago, then opened the first anthony's coalfiredpizza in 2002. open just 6 weeks in tampa, this is one of my fav's after one visit !

kara, my server was terrific, satisfying my pet peve for outstanding service. the coalfiredpizza comes out of the 800 degree oven "done well" and in my view well done ! fresh ingredients, and a nice crispy edge to the crust make for mouth watering pizza. i asked for half a salad - and got an amazing plate that easily would feed two (did i say half order?) kara surprised me with a sampling of the coalfiredchicken wings and was i glad she did! marinated overnight in olive oil, salt, garlic and rosemary they come out crisp and topped with carmelized onions. you have to try them!

did i mention this was lunch? i got a meal that would have fed at least two, and a beverage. the ticket?$27.00

in addition to this review, their flyer says their south florida locations are continuously ranked in zagat surveys as "very good to excellent." go visit for your self. you will not be disappointed.
