swing and a miss. after a good start with the local schlafly seasonal brew and the signature toasted ravioli appetizer, things went sideways. after some time, the waitress came out to declare the kitchen had decided my wife's chicken spedini, highly recommended by the waitress, was too small so they started over. when it arrived, my wife cut in to it to find it to be undercooked. when it returned, it was cooked and the flavor was good. the opportunity for a good first impression had passed. mypastacarbonara was good with salty pancetta and creamy sauce, a little cold, though.

we'd try it again because it seemed promising. it was certainly popular.

not a good one. my husband , daughter and i went for a drive to st. louis and had planned on anthonino's to eat dinner. we are making rounds and researching it looked as if they had a mix of reviews, we would try it anyways. definately a disappointment. 2 of us got the chicken parm w/ side ofpastaw/ alfredo. the chicken had breading , no seasonings, and scant sauce on it. the chicken itself seemed very fresh, but had no flavor.we asked the waitress for more red sauce. she gave us 2 tiny plastic containers and charged us for them. the alfredo sauce that evening was nothing more than a little milk with the consistency of cream. way to watery. and again , no salt, pepper, no spice, no garlic, no flavoring was tasted at all. we also ordered a steak dinner w/ side of pasta. medium rare was done right on some parts, the outer edges, inside was completely raw. and the sauce onpastawas very unspiced, unflavorable. i don't pretend to be a critic. i did go to culinary school while i was in hs. i enjoy cooking and do cook daily. my husbands mother's side are all italian. growing up she taught both he and i ,loads of italian dishes and most importantly, sauce making. we come from pa. where old forge , pa. has some of the nations best pizzaria's and italian rests. i am very proud of that history.maybe they were having a bad night @ anthonino's that evening. my guess is once your disappointed , that will be the rule. i don't know because i do not go back and spend money where i feel i did not get the service i paid for. i hope that the owners read this and oversee the staff w/ cooking. it seemed that evening was busy w/ no one in charge. were they on vacation?? the prices were reasonable. need to fix that chef. needs to be consistent. sorry anthonino's. not a good pick for us. the waitress did speak w/ someone and they took the charge off for the 2 ounces of sauce. that was nice of them. ;)

overall a good experience. the hostess was rude, however our server was extremely efficient. we experienced a minimal wait time, i think we got there right before the saturday evening rush. greek salad andpastawere very tasty, but the lemon-drop i ordered was not made very well. the menu has a diverse price range, you can come here and order a $10 entree or a $30 entree. i like that they have something for everyone.

nice place with two identities: italian and greek on equal footing in a very nice restaurant on the hill.

we started with the fried cheese (halloumi) starter and an order of fried ravioli (also cheese): both were gone in minutes. delicious.

i ordered the dolmathes entree (with a side or bolognesepastaof course) and my dinner companion ordered the fire pizza (tzatziki sauce base): these were also very tasty.

staff are friendly, the place is very nice, and they have a full bar if you are craving a cocktail.

we went after the reopened after the new remodel. was very frustrated that there was man drilling while we ate. who would allow that during open hours, it was so loud we couldn't even have a conversation. our waitress was the best, she apologized frequently. she also made us feel like locals, she was so friendly. had the fried ravioli and it was really good, the homemade sauce was delish. the raviolis are meat and the flavor was incredible. not blan at all. he had the greek burger and he moaned with each bite said it was one of the best burger he's ever had, i snuck a bite and would have to agree. i had a seafoodpastawith shrimp calamari crab claw and clams. would have loved a few more clams and calamari but the flavor was perfect. and the seafood tasted fresh. the waitress recommended getting it with half alfredo have marinara and she could t have suggested better. also the noodles were amazing, cooked perfect and nice and thick.

nye 2013. so, basically, my mom and i went to kobe japanese steak house around 7pm, we would've been waiting til 11:30-midnight and i was starting to shake because i was so hungry... i originally made reservations @ trattoria marcella for 7pm, they couldn't accommodate us until 9:30pm; it was 8:30ish by now. so i called anthonino's taverna, expecting some kind of wait, especially on nye - i mean they're 1. on the hill and 2. pretty well known.

well to my surprise, i called, and asked about the wait - no wait. at all. we get there and there's literally 3 other tables seated. we were sat right away, accommodated right away. they told us the kitchen was closing at 9:30, it was 9:15 or so, but our waitress, lee, (she was a sweetheart) told us not to worry because she didn't have any plans for the evening and the only reason they were closing the kitchen earlier was to allow the staff to enjoy some of their nye off of work. lee was such a nice waitress and extremely knowledgable about not only the menu, but the history behind the restaurant.

this place must be known for their pizza because all 3 tables had pizza on their tables... we didn't order one this time, but next time, that's definitely the plan! they looked amazing.

right away we ordered the toasted ravioli as an appetizer and oh my gosh the best toasted ravioli i have ever had!!! it comes with 6 big raviolis and a bowl of red sauce w/ parmesan. i highly recommend them as an appetizer. you are also served with fresh bread and olive oil for dipping, very good! i ordered the salmon for dinner w/ spaghetti squash (or i could have gotten pasta) - not a big fan of spaghetti squash, but the salmon was great. i also got a house salad with my meal, mostly full of lettuce, but i don't really care for house salads anyways - for the most part however, it was good.

my mom got thepastaprimavera, so good. i had more of that than my own food it seemed like. would have been good with some sausage or some kind of meat in it, but regardless, it was fantastic. my mom also said her wine was very good.

the bill wasn't expensive at all & i am so glad we were able to eat here. i loved our waitress and how she didn't rush us so she could leave for nye. our food was superb and quick. also, they're planning on expanding their restaurant to the backyard (enclosed dining though) so more people can be served since there usually is a pretty long wait on the weekends. highly recommend this place for good, authentic, inexpensive, italian food. great service and great menu!

food should be served hot. every restaurant should observe this simple rule 100% of the time: serve the food hot. when you fail here, you fail totally, even if the food tastes good.

had dinner here recently on a very busy night. there were lots of families with young kids, so as a party of two, we took it in stride when we were seated at a high table very close to the kitchen doors used by the busboys. very close. like bill clinton on an intern close.

our server was friendly and welcoming, and we started with a couple of glasses of wine (very good petite sirah and cabernet) and calamari, which was a bit rubbery, and worse than that - lukewarm. for our entrees, we had italian sausagepastaandpastamelanzane, both of which were tasty but again - served warm rather than hot - a cardinal sin.

although our server started strong, she disappeared for a long stretch after bringing our entrees and never asked us whether we wanted a second glass of wine.

what could have been an excellent meal was turned into a poor one by lukewarm food and inattentive service. given the many options on the hill, i'm not sure we'll return to anthonino's.

i had read about their homemade fried ravioli, so we ordered that as an appetizer. it came right out and the pieces were huge! we dug in so fast; i forgot to get a photo. apologies, we were hungry. they had a wonderfully seasoned filling, with a nice crisp wrapping. really good and the homemade marinara was to die for. i ordered the shrimp scampi with noodles and my mr. went out on a limb and ordered thepastawith sautéed shrimp. i was so proud of him. please note, i chose this place because they had sandwiches & pizza in case he wasn’t feeling so brave.

awesome take-out!. our plan was to dine in tonight for my birthday, however my boyfriend had a headache. anthonino's did not disappoint. we had pestopasta& beef spedini. it was excellent! i am new to the neighborhood, & my client suggested we try this place. she is greek & she adores their cuisine. this was a first, but will not be our last visit to this jewel of a dining establishment.

fantastic!. simply some of the best italian food i've ever had. cannot think of anything to compare in kc. the deep fried artichoke starter was excellent, pastaputtanesca was luxurious, briny and rich. my wife's beef ravioli in pesto cream was truly decadent (they were out of the cheese ravioli and substituted beef - i thought it was perfect). even my sons simple cheese pizza ( they do the kids pizza on pita bread) was outstanding. we'll definitely be back next time we're in st. louis.

great italian & greek food on "the hill". i have been a fan of anthonino's taverna for a couple of years now thanks to an old co-worker. a location in the storied "hill" neighborhood serving up handmade pastas is good, but when you combine it with the greek influences that the menu at anthonino's taverna offers it is the best food "the hill" has to offer.

my wife and i stopped here on saturday night for dinner, as she was tired of hearing me rave about this place and wanted first hand knowledge. i originally called to see if dinner reservations were needed or not, but the hostess that answered said they were overbooked with larger parties tonight and to try and get here as close to 5pm as possible or after 8:30pm if you didn't want to wait very long. we chose the earlier and when we arrived it was as i remembered it -- a small, almost cozy, restaurant and bar with a mix of patrons (from flip-flops and shorts to business suits) -- and were seated right away.

we ordered the gyro plate (slices of gyro with tzatziki) and a horiatiki salata (tomato, red onion, red pepper, kalamata olive, feta and cucumber in salad form) as appetizers. the food came out quick and was fresh, and the serving size was definitely more than enough for my wife and i.

for our entrees my wife ordered the pesto ravioli (hand made cheese ravioli in a pesto cream sauce) and i ordered the grilled chickenpasta(with capocolla, fresh tomatoes in a pink sauce). both our entrees were served quickly and were very fresh. both of these entrees came at the recomendation of our waitress, who was very helpful and did a great job of keeping our drinks refilled and checking up on us.

in early june 2012, foodnetwork was at anthonino's taverna to film part of diners, drive-ins, and dives and since that has occurred, according to our waitress, the business has really picked up. we could tell, by the time we left after our dinner (around 6:15pm) there was not an empty table in the restaurant and there were several parties enjoying drinks at the bar.

in the end, i can't highly recommend this place enough. great food, great casual atmosphere....what more do you need.
