not a good one. my husband , daughter and i went for a drive to st. louis and had planned onanthonino'sto eat dinner. we are making rounds and researching it looked as if they had a mix of reviews, we would try it anyways. definately a disappointment. 2 of us got the chicken parm w/ side of pasta w/ alfredo. the chicken had breading , no seasonings, and scant sauce on it. the chicken itself seemed very fresh, but had no flavor.we asked the waitress for more red sauce. she gave us 2 tiny plastic containers and charged us for them. the alfredo sauce that evening was nothing more than a little milk with the consistency of cream. way to watery. and again , no salt, pepper, no spice, no garlic, no flavoring was tasted at all. we also ordered a steak dinner w/ side of pasta. medium rare was done right on some parts, the outer edges, inside was completely raw. and the sauce on pasta was very unspiced, unflavorable. i don't pretend to be a critic. i did go to culinary school while i was in hs. i enjoy cooking and do cook daily. my husbands mother's side are all italian. growing up she taught both he and i ,loads of italian dishes and most importantly, sauce making. we come from pa. where old forge , pa. has some of the nations best pizzaria's and italian rests. i am very proud of that history.maybe they were having a bad night @anthonino'sthat evening. my guess is once your disappointed , that will be the rule. i don't know because i do not go back and spend money where i feel i did not get the service i paid for. i hope that the owners read this and oversee the staff w/ cooking. it seemed that evening was busy w/ no one in charge. were they on vacation?? the prices were reasonable. need to fix that chef. needs to be consistent. sorry anthonino's. not a good pick for us. the waitress did speak w/ someone and they took the charge off for the 2 ounces of sauce. that was nice of them. ;)

gyro pizza. we visitedanthonino'son saturday mid day (1/3/15)...no problem getting in since they have added onto their location based on diners drive-ins and dives visiting this restaurant. quite honestly, the episode is the reason why we visited. service was spot on, servers are very knowledgeable of the menu and not afraid to talk about it and make necessary recommendations.
my husband and i ordered the gyro pizza................fabulous!!!!!!!! we are a pizza house and have had our fair share, this was by far, the best pizza we have ever had. we are looking forward to going back and trying a different pizza selection.

bad experience - blame it on the kitchen. my work team went toanthonino'sfor a rare team lunch away from the office today. we have been before and a had a great experience with no issues. today we ordered appetizers which came out quickly and were awesome (ravs and fried pickles). the drinks were kept full, but our food took so long we wound up having to get everything boxed to go. our server was apologetic once it was apparent the food was taking too long and said the kitchen was backed up. it was a nice day and the place was busy. however, it was apparent that there was some sort of friction going on between the server and kitchen, but to have that affect the customer should not happen. i get that most people only write reviews when they are angry and i usually don't write bad reviews. the only reason i am writing this review is because after all that waiting and having to bring my food back to the office, i had to throw out my chicken gyro because the chicken was not fully cooked. i will likely return because the ravs are so great, but not with a large group or on a work day.

excellent!. recently i visitedanthonino'sfor a late lunch. i was extremely pleased with the overall experience. the waitress was well informed and very helpful answering any questions we had on the food. two of us split a pizza and the third person had meatballs and pasta. food was excellent and the service was even better. plan to return in the near future.

nye 2013. so, basically, my mom and i went to kobe japanese steak house around 7pm, we would've been waiting til 11:30-midnight and i was starting to shake because i was so hungry... i originally made reservations @ trattoria marcella for 7pm, they couldn't accommodate us until 9:30pm; it was 8:30ish by now. so i calledanthonino'staverna, expecting some kind of wait, especially on nye - i mean they're 1. on the hill and 2. pretty well known.

well to my surprise, i called, and asked about the wait - no wait. at all. we get there and there's literally 3 other tables seated. we were sat right away, accommodated right away. they told us the kitchen was closing at 9:30, it was 9:15 or so, but our waitress, lee, (she was a sweetheart) told us not to worry because she didn't have any plans for the evening and the only reason they were closing the kitchen earlier was to allow the staff to enjoy some of their nye off of work. lee was such a nice waitress and extremely knowledgable about not only the menu, but the history behind the restaurant.

this place must be known for their pizza because all 3 tables had pizza on their tables... we didn't order one this time, but next time, that's definitely the plan! they looked amazing.

right away we ordered the toasted ravioli as an appetizer and oh my gosh the best toasted ravioli i have ever had!!! it comes with 6 big raviolis and a bowl of red sauce w/ parmesan. i highly recommend them as an appetizer. you are also served with fresh bread and olive oil for dipping, very good! i ordered the salmon for dinner w/ spaghetti squash (or i could have gotten pasta) - not a big fan of spaghetti squash, but the salmon was great. i also got a house salad with my meal, mostly full of lettuce, but i don't really care for house salads anyways - for the most part however, it was good.

my mom got the pasta primavera, so good. i had more of that than my own food it seemed like. would have been good with some sausage or some kind of meat in it, but regardless, it was fantastic. my mom also said her wine was very good.

the bill wasn't expensive at all & i am so glad we were able to eat here. i loved our waitress and how she didn't rush us so she could leave for nye. our food was superb and quick. also, they're planning on expanding their restaurant to the backyard (enclosed dining though) so more people can be served since there usually is a pretty long wait on the weekends. highly recommend this place for good, authentic, inexpensive, italian food. great service and great menu!

great italian & greek food on "the hill". i have been a fan ofanthonino'staverna for a couple of years now thanks to an old co-worker. a location in the storied "hill" neighborhood serving up handmade pastas is good, but when you combine it with the greek influences that the menu atanthonino'staverna offers it is the best food "the hill" has to offer.

my wife and i stopped here on saturday night for dinner, as she was tired of hearing me rave about this place and wanted first hand knowledge. i originally called to see if dinner reservations were needed or not, but the hostess that answered said they were overbooked with larger parties tonight and to try and get here as close to 5pm as possible or after 8:30pm if you didn't want to wait very long. we chose the earlier and when we arrived it was as i remembered it -- a small, almost cozy, restaurant and bar with a mix of patrons (from flip-flops and shorts to business suits) -- and were seated right away.

we ordered the gyro plate (slices of gyro with tzatziki) and a horiatiki salata (tomato, red onion, red pepper, kalamata olive, feta and cucumber in salad form) as appetizers. the food came out quick and was fresh, and the serving size was definitely more than enough for my wife and i.

for our entrees my wife ordered the pesto ravioli (hand made cheese ravioli in a pesto cream sauce) and i ordered the grilled chicken pasta (with capocolla, fresh tomatoes in a pink sauce). both our entrees were served quickly and were very fresh. both of these entrees came at the recomendation of our waitress, who was very helpful and did a great job of keeping our drinks refilled and checking up on us.

in early june 2012, foodnetwork was atanthonino'staverna to film part of diners, drive-ins, and dives and since that has occurred, according to our waitress, the business has really picked up. we could tell, by the time we left after our dinner (around 6:15pm) there was not an empty table in the restaurant and there were several parties enjoying drinks at the bar.

in the end, i can't highly recommend this place enough. great food, great casual atmosphere....what more do you need.

might become a favorite.anthonino'shas potential to become a favorite of mine and my family. italian and greek are two of my favorite cuisines, so i was thoroughly excited to see thatanthonino'soffered both!

we started with the spanakopita. i had never had it before but had tried similar dishes. the phyllo was perfect: light, crispy, and slightly buttery. the feta and spinach stuffing was creamy and very flavorful. both flavors really came through quite nicely.

i went with the meatball pasta, because i love a good meatball. these meatballs were full of meaty flavor. they were served on linguine in a good, traditional marinara.

my wife went with the chicken parmesan, which is a favorite of both of us. the chicken was tender and juicy. the breading was light and added just the right amount of flavor and texture. i would put this chicken parmesan up there with some of the best i have had.

anthonino's even has a kids menu. my daughter enjoyed the linguine and marinara.

best of all, anthonino'sis reasonably priced, especially when you consider the amount of food and compare it with the prices of the other restaurants on the hill. my family and i will definitely be back. we can't wait to try more of the menu!

always great. we live close and have been toanthonino'smany times. we always have a great experience.
my favorites are the cheese ravioli in the pesto sauce or the baba ghanoush pizza. my husband loves the gyro or any of the pizzas. other sandwiches we have tried and enjoy are the meatball, falafel (delicious with a bit of spice), feta burger.

love it - careful on carry-out. love this place. dine-in and pizzas rock. one of my top cheap eats places in the city and service is consistently excellent.

only making this review because we ordered a few random items carry-out and they were uncharacteristically below average. couple salads and couple apps. they told us 45 minutes but the hot stuff was cold and kinda gross when we got it (garlic cheese bread and "gyro platter" which was literally gyro meat in foil and tzatziki). salads were ok though.

will stick with dine-in or pizzas if i want carry-out from now on though but still one of my favorites.

***note to the owner who responded to a review below - dude - i love your restaurant but seeing stuff like this makes me second guess my consistent recommendations to friends. the review section on urbanspoon is not a forum for you to yell at reviewers and call them wrong and it is in especially poor taste to say that the diner was "false" concerning her impression of the meal. bad experiences happen - excuses and accusations are not necessary. let the food/freshness speak for itself instead. also, it is written extremely poorly and full of errors, making it look like an angry rant. thanks

excellent pizza!. we recently moved near the hill, so i knew we had some excellent pizza in the area.

tried a few places, butanthonino'shas been out favorite. simply excellent pizza, not terribly expensive.

they have some pretty wacky specialty pizzas. have had the margherita, pepperoni, regular cheese, sicilian, four cheese, chicken pesto (or something like that) and a few others.

the margherita, pepperoni, regular cheese and sicilian were excellent. the four cheese and a few of the other specialities i did not enjoy as much, but generally their pies are some of the best in the city. i think some of their speciality pies cater to specific tastes.

tons of cheese, excellent crust and sauce. in my top three pizza places in the city.
