great bbq topped off with great live music. my family and i enjoyed a wonderful evening with andy nelson's bbq ribs and smoked catfish with sides of stewed tomatoes, cole slaw, and cornbread. the evening was topped off with a free concert by linda nelson and the mighty coolers. this was a great way to start off the summer. we are looking towards the next pigskin palace concert.

bonus bbq. besides have great bbq in a friendly, rustic atmosphere, andy offers great values with the royalty rewards program. i like the red envelops given out during december and july. thanks for remembering my family's birthdays, half birthdays and anniversary. i look towards the "were in the world" contest each month.

i do not need an incentive to go to andy nelson's for lunch or dinner, but i sure do appreciate saving a buck or two because of andy's generosity.

smoked corned beef!. i always look for st. patrick's day when andy smokes corned beef. it is different from the tradition style deli corned beef. my family and i enjoyed 4 days of andy nelson's smoked cornedbeefthis past month. it was a real treat! can't wait until march 2015 for more.

best sauces. andy's bbq is the best! i love to top the ribs, pit beef, pulled pork, brisket, and chicken with the different sauces. my favorite is the bama bbq. after topping my sa"m"wich with bama bbq sauce, i take a big bite. then i put some more bama

-----18 dec, 2013-----

great place to meet friends. i enjoy meeting my friends for lunch at andy's. everybody raves about the good bbq. the sa"m"wishes are outstanding; but the sides are an addition. we all like the mac&cheese, cole slaw, baked beans, stewed tomatoes, bbq tater wedges, and cornbread. and don't forget the collard greens, potato salad and a good kosher pickle. we enjoy the friendly service, the atmosphere, and the old time blues music.

-----17 nov, 2013-----

another great week for andy's bbq. monday i had a rib dinner. wednesday was pitbeefwith mac & cheese for my daughter and pitbeefwith coleslaw & stewed tomatoes for lunch. i took home smoked ham for my wife. friday my daughter and i had brisket sandwiches with mac & cheese, cornbread, coleslaw & stewed tomatoes. my wife enjoyed the smoked catfish i took home. everything was great and consistent - the food, the service, the music and the atmosphere.

-----08 may, 2013-----

my daughter's favorite. my daughter and i have a meeting the first monday of the month, and we go otd (out to dinner.) we always go to andy nelson's for the ribs. i suggest we go some place different, since i was there for lunch. "no! i want andy's ribs," was her reply. the girl knows good food. i had a pitbeefsandwich with cole slaw and stewed tomatoes for lunch, and ribs with potato wedges and mac & cheese for dinner. this was a perfect day!

-----17 mar, 2013-----

my favorite. andy nelson's bbq is my favorite lunch spot for great food, pleasant service, good music, and reasonable prices. i often have 8 to 10 friends gather for a friday lunch. it's a great time for all

-----07 feb, 2013-----

best bbq. i am a regular at andy nelson's bbq - at least once a week if not 2 or 3 times. the ribs are meaty, tasty, and fall off the bone. the brisket has a smoke ring and a good smoky flavor. i love the the pulled pork and pit beef. the sides are great. my favorite include the stewed tomatoes, potato wedges, cole slaw, and mac & cheese. the awards program is a bonus.

-----03 dec, 2012-----

if we're not eating at home, we're probably at andy nelson's. we moved to the area in 2012 and andy nelson's quickly became one of our favorite things about hunt valley.

we love...
...the food. southern comfort food at its best.
...the staff. friendly, efficient, down-to-earth.
...the rewards program. free food? sign me up.
...the "garage" dining room. what better place to take three young kids for dinner?
...the outdoor summer concerts.

don't miss the pulled pork sandwich with a generous pile of cole slaw and a splash of guy's pig dip on it, accompanied by their genuine sweet tea. our other favorites: bbqbeefsandwich, beefbrisket sandwich, corn bread, mac & cheese, black eyed peas and collard greens.

-----28 feb, 2013-----

great food, great service - don't miss this!. we love andy nelson's because we can count on it for great food and superior customer service.
we've tried nearly everything on their menu and have never been disappointed, but our old stand-bys are the pulled pork and bbq beef. their sweet tea is as authentic as you can get, and if you're lucky, they'll have fresh banana pudding.
aside from the mouth-watering menu, the customer service keeps us coming back. in a world of disappointing/frustrating customer service, andy nelson's knows how to treat their guests well. you'll get helpful, friendly service with a smile. and their rewards program is outstanding -- we get coupons for free food almost faster than we can use them.
the one and only time i had a slightly unpleasant customer service experience, i mentioned it in a follow up survey and received a personal response from andy nelson, jr. he apologized and promised to address the issue promptly. it was a very minor issue and i wasn't expecting a response at all, but i appreciated knowing that they take customer feedback seriously. it shows, because there are a lot of supremely satisfied fans of andy nelson's out there!

just can't beat it. for perfectly smoked pork, beefor poultry you will not find any better this side of alabama then andy's. his sides are excellent, the beans are the best, and when you're finished don't a slice of , always moist apple cake. you'll probably have to take it home for you will already be stuffed.

friday night swing. my wife kathy and i invited 4 friends that had never been to andy's before to the appearance of arty hill and his band last friday evening. they wanted to try everything so we had a whole smoked chicken, the pitbeefand brisket, collard greens, and potato salad. it was a great evening listening to music outdoors (until the thunderstorm). before fleeing, one friend ran back inside to get a pound of the pulled pork to go, since that was one of the few items we missed and she really wanted to try that also. i didn't get any of the pork but her family polished it off that night when she went home. excellent bbq and setting for family dining on the picnic tables out back.

the real deal in baltimore, md. andy nelson's offers the best pulled pork sandwich i've ever eaten. i've had nc bbq, ok bbq, texas--you get the point. add a couple of their fantastic sides and you'll have a meal that will make your momma jealous. be sure to try their cornbread, baked beans, greens, and, oh yeah the slaw is great too. my husband always gets the pulled pork, but i've gotten the pitbeefand turkey breast and both of those were excellent. the experience of eating in is enhanced by the soulful music and oinker decor. must try and enjoy!!!

andy nelson's barbaque--the region's best. mr. andy nelson and his team serve the absolute best barbeque and smoked meats in the region. barbeque is my favorite staple. being an active duty military service member, i have tried barbeque across the u.s. mr. nelson's pulled pork barbeque, beefbrisket, smoked turkey and smoked catfish are the absolute best i have ever tried. the moist cornbread and the southern style sweet tea are also "worth the trip". i recommend you try his daughter's made from scratch desserts. mr. nelson and his team provide outstanding customer service. his staff is always very cordial and friendly and do their best to ensure your visit is most enjoyable. highly recommend a visit to mr. andy nelson's barbeque in cockeysville, md.

baltimore bbq. i had heard baltimore doesn't have much for good bbq, but andy nelson's does have it. this place looks and feels like a typical bbq joint. nothing fancy, but good food. the pulled pork is very good, beans, cole slaw, and homefries are all better than most other bbq joints. i thought the jumbo portion for the pitbeefand pulled pork sandwiches a little light for the price and the 'jumbo' size, but still very tasty. i will be going back many times to try as much of the menu as i can.

best restaurant with a drive through. baltimore is known for pitbeefstyle barbecue, which is good stuff, but sometimes i want some ribs and many local food blogs pointed me towards andy nelson's. not just any ribs, mind you, but some place where they really master the craft. ms. classy and i headed down to south carolina last summer and i was convinced i would never be content with barbecued ribs or breaded shrimp around here again (what's up with boiled peanuts by the way?)

shortly after moving here, i couldn't help but notice the big plastic pig along york road when we were hopping from target to wegmans. if you have never been to andy nelson's, i recommend the drive through. the over-the-top pig paraphernalia, the human horde swarming the waiting area, and a huffy worker rolling her eyes and sighing every time she had to mop around a waiting patron were just a few things i didn't like about the atmosphere. however, if you do opt for the drive through, you will miss out on the aroma. like any barbecue joint, the smell inside is amazing. the smell of smoke and roasting meat is enough to bring out the primal carnivore inside everyone. i prayed the aroma flowing from the barbecued meats would continue to overpower any smells that may be seeping up from the tightly packed corpulent crowd on this very hot day.

i've read a few online reviews mentioning their carolina mustard sauce and i inquired about getting the tangy sauce slathered over our ribs. the staff member on duty seemed confused about by query. he could do it, he supposed, but he never had such a request and he did seem genuinely puzzled that someone would want such a thing. i was then informed that the mustard sauce was only offered on thursdays with their pulled chicken sandwich, which was also only offered on thursdays. oh well, bring on the bama bbq sauce.

we got ourselves a rib platter. at $20.83, this is $0.83 over my cheap eats limit for two, but a few hours of checking the coin returns of soda machines and pay phones should cover that discrepancy. i've read several posts of people raving about the corn bread and i cannot. i found andy nelson's cornbread too dry. this may sound like heresy to endorse a bland, soulless chain over a lovable local joint, but the corn bread i had at the smokey bones in lansing, mi was preferable. the barbecue potato wedges were good, but very "potato-y" and not so much "barbecue-y" which may turn some people off. but really, who goes to a barbecue place because they heard the sides were good? now to the meat: yummy. you can order the ribs wet or with a dry rub and we always prefer wet. their signature bama bbq sauce is good: smoky, a hint of pepper, and not so strong as to overpower the meat. the meat was tender in most spots. i got the piece with the ends of the ribs, so it had some tougher areas, but not so much as to dislike them. ms. classy got the better cut and did not have this hitch. even though they were good and i did like them, they weren't the oh-my-god-fly-me-up-to-heaven-on-the-back-of-a-feather-winged-angelic-pig good, like in south carolina. but in all fairness, i'm sure south carolina has a thing or two to learn about creating the perfect crab cake.

will we go back? yes. however, i would like to pass on the ribs but not because i didn't enjoy them. many people have raved about the wings (barbecued, not fried!) and missing out on the turkey q is considered a mortal sin in some of the more extreme religious sects in the area.

love thebeefbrisket. my first visit today and was really pleased with the food. i was going to try the pitbeefbut thebeefbrisket caught my eye. i was informed that it is cooked the same way as the pit beef, it is just a better cut so more tender. i ordered the jumbo express, 7oz meat, 2 sides and a large drink.

i really enjoyed the sandwich. it was very lean and had a good flavor to it, a good choice. i ate about 1/2 the meat from the sandwich one piece at a time, dipping into the three sauces they have plus some horseradish. the tomato based bama sauce was very good, sweet with a mild spicy kick. the carolina sauce is mustard based, very good but not my preference. the pig dip is probably best with pork, vinegar based.

back to the sandwich. i still had enough meat left to fill the kaiser roll nicely (again i ate 1/2 of what i was served already). they advertise 7 oz, i am sure it was a little more than that. i put on a good amount of horseradish and dipped into the bama sauce every other bite or so. i also had the redskin potato salad and bbq beans. both were fine, lots of flavor and tasted fresh. the iced tea was very good also.
