when i ask people "do you know alpine restaurant", the response is either "that place is amazing!", or "which place?" alpine is less than one kilometer from where i live, yet somehow it took me nearly three years to visit. now i wish i could make up for lost time. the place is easily accessible. right on bram fisher, just before you get to linden. its a small center, with lots of parking available. they have a very nice deck area, but due to inclement weather we could not sit there. also, due to said weather, all the doors and windows were tightly closed, causing the interior to be a bit noisy and stuffy. i'm sure that won't be a problem under normal circumstances.themenuis extensive. from pizza and pasta to einstein and steak. i had pork chops and my companion had steak, both of which were delicious. it seems that they also have a butchery and deli on the same premises, which may account for the excellent quality of the meat. what really impresses is the side orders. most dishes allows you to pick any two. it literally took me longer to select my two side dishes than to choose the meat! i settled on broccoli and blue cheese bake (that is one dish, served in a ramekin), and mashed potatoes. the décor and ambiance did not really blow my hair back. in fact, two days later i find myself hard pressed to remember what the interior looked like. that doesn't matter, it's not the kind of place you go to so that you can look at the walls. service was good, though not amazing. pricing is average - not cheap, not expensive.all in all, this is the kind of neighborhood restaurant that is well worth the drive if you live far away. what a gem.

alpine restaurant in ferndale (randburg) has only been around a couple of years and it already has a loyal neighbourhood following.

as i walked into this charming little restaurant on a rainy friday night, to be greeted by the quirky pavel sariev and his team, i couldn't help but feel at home right away.. from its black tiled bar area and huge wine selection to the bustling tables around me, i saw that this was not the kind of place that you manage to get a table at on a friday night without booking first.

i soon learnt that they were hosting a free wine tasting evening (which i am told that they often do), and asked if i could be included in it. i was not disappointed!

raka wines (named after piet dreyer's black fishing vessel), presented by tania bester was on show for the evening and i loved that they had managed to incorporate each member of staff at alpine to come out proudly and present the meal best paired with each wine course. i was very happy to be educated with their knowledge on food and wine on a friday night...

in terms of the wine options on offer that evening were the:

1. raka sauvignon blanc with accompanying dish recommendations by maureen.

2. raka chenin blanc with accompanying dish recommendations by prince.

3. raka petit verdot

4. raka spliced 2012

5. and lastly (and my favourite of the evening)... raka's flagship wine - sangiovese 2012

on the red's side, biggie and sindiso presented the recommendations for pairing, with brighton educating us on alpine's legendary dry aged steaks (which will be in my recommendations below).

onto the food andmenuofferings: this little local is worth the drive if you are craving good italian food and i could not believe the excellent value-for-money that i received from theirmenuoptions in portions, taste and price.

service: to me, good, knowledgeable service from waiters is hard to come by. sindiso was a 10/10 and i was incredibly impressed with his attentiveness all throughout the evening. for that reason, this restaurants rating goes up to a 4.5 for me.

*recommendation: alpine's claim to fame is their melt-in-your-mouth, 21 day dry aged steaks served with a demi -glace and roasted bone marrow.. and i will be back to sample it soon!

we went for lunch to try the new abyssinianmenuat this one of my favourite "meat spots". after asking for some advice on the options we settelef on an assortment of dishes to share. the food was interesting and tasy and we were pleasently supprised with the offering. the service is good as normal.

i have often passed this restaurant on the way to work and play, and decided that i had to try it. i went here for a sunday afternoon lunch at short notice. there were few diners at that moment but this had nothing to do with the quality of food that awaited.

themenuis extensive and as the name suggests offers the usual alpine fare, german, swiss, italian and bulgarian meals. there is anothermenuwhich is not published online which offers an abyssinian menu. themenutook some time to go through.

my dining companion chose the bone marrow starter and i had the livers starter. she then progressed to the oxtail and i had the lamb burger. the portions are large and wholesome. the bone marrow was delicious and so too the chicken livers which were consumed with gusto. the lamb was tender and easily consumed despite the generous portion sizes. my companion enjoyed the oxtail but had to get a takeaway given the other elements consumed. there is an alpine butchery next to the restaurant and this shows in the freshness of the fare.

i have paid more for meals previously but alpine outdoes restaurants which are pricier but cannot come close in terms of the quality of meal. the fact that it's a neighborhood gem will definitely lead to repeat visits. our waiter was friendly and knowledgable on the menu. there is a wide selection of wine and spirits - the beermenuis the only one that could have a slightly wider variety.

all in all an excellent experience :-)

i've been here many times and always love coming here. the aesthetic is clean and simple but the food is rich and well prepared. the restaurant is great for all occasions with a broad but not overwhelmedmenuand solid wine list.

my first experience at alpine restaurant was a special one. while the atmosphere may lack a bit, the service was great and the food exceptional. i had the fillet which was one of the best cuts of meat i've ever had and my dining partner had the pork ribs, which were equally high quality, probably attributable to the fact that alpine is also a butchery that runs in the day. i knew i was in for a treat (i was craving a good steak). one of my favorite aspects of the meal was the option to choose 2 side dishes from their excellent selection (the gorgonzola broccoli gratin, trust me). while themenuwas not cheap, you get what you pay for. an overall lovely first time, i will definitely be returning 👍🏻.

alpine is definitely a hidden gem! although hesitant at first, i thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience and will certainly be back!  the selection of wines is fantastic. the owner definitely knows what he's doing when it comes to choosing wine for his restaurant.  we had a fantastic ken forrester red blend (wines are also reasonably priced).  great wines by the glass as well.

something that isn't mentioned in any of the other reviews is that alpine has their normal menu, but they also have an abyssinianmenu(ethiopian food) which is fantastic! theres an ethiopian lady who specially prepares these dishes. i had the lamb with injera which was perfectly prepared, tender and the flavours were perfect! we also had the prawns for a starter and the chocolate fondant for dessert.  there was nothing that i didn't enjoy.  portion sizes are very big! you might be able to get away with sharing dishes between a group of people (especially if ordering from the abyssinian menu).

the owner, manager and waiters are also super welcoming and go out of their way to ensure you have a memorable dining experience.   they are in the process of updating theirmenu(which i do think needs to be a bit more organised) and i personally think they could do with changing the decor (as its very simple).  food, wine and service are phenomenal.  highly recommended

unfortunately this place doens't really cater for vegetarians. there is quite a limited variety of meals when it comes to lunch or dinner. it would be nice to see such an improvement on theirmenuto cater for us as i was disappointed with this. hopefully they will improve this variety on their menu. the pizza that i had was below average and a bit soggy. meat eaters in our group of friends enjoyed their meal here including the marrow bone that was served with their their selected cut of meat.

nothing can be said about alpine that you can't figure out for yourself after your first bite. the quality is superior and never fails to be delicious. the owner treats you like family and the staff all great. by far one of my favourite places for a meal no matter what the time of day.

if only i could take a bath in their prawns! it is so delicious. one thing you need to know is that the portions are huge, adding some salad/chips to the starter of prawns is basically a main meal. but luckily for them i was born with a rare case of "stuff my face til my belly button pops put" syndrome :)

the steaks are great, and you can choose any 2 sides off of theirmenuranging from hand cut chips to caramelized beetroot. trust me, 2 sides are quite a lot and a can rarely finish my entire plate, ever. and this girl can eat. all steaks are accompanied by two large marrow bones for those who love the marrow melting into their meat. not my favourite, so i just put them aside.

if i could personally take everyone to alpine i would, but at the same time, i want to keep them all to myself :)

when you've got a man with a beautifully thick bulgarian accent greeting you and making small talk about the world cup you have an inkling of the kind of evening you're in for!
alpine is a great little spot at the top of conrad drive in blairgowrie/randburg with a butchery attached to the restaurant.
the owner is an old friend of my dads (from the german shepard dog club?) and is actively involved in the day to day runnings of the restaurant.
they boast a well balancedmenuand their claim to fame is their collection of 21-day matured cuts of meat (prepared in the butchery next door).
they boast an extensive selection of wines housed in a very fancy temperature controlled fridge/room which forms one of the restaurants walls, a very nice little feature - we indulged in a bottle of wine called "the churchyard".
i enjoyed a starter of prawns (at a steak restaurant, go figure) - which was just absolutely phenomenal, with some delightful mayonnaise and sweet chilli sauce while my parents each enjoyed their own carpaccio, which was thinly sliced and look exceptionally appetising.
main meals were were healthy portions of beautifully prepared meat, between us we had, prime rib, pork chops and fillet - the cuts of meat were impeccable and their preparation was second to none!
a chocolate fondant and cappuccino to round off the evening never goes astray!

what i love about alpine though, apart from the amazing food, is the look and feel, it's a well lit cosy little restaurant and the staff are polite, well trained and all round nice guys whilst the owner (simeon) and his managers are authentic europeans with that warm homely "you must enjoy" attitude that adds to the experience.

i really would recommend this place for dinner and the butchery for your fresh cuts of meat!
