based on zomato ratings, we decided to give alpine a try. what agooddecision! first, the restaurant is light and airy (we didn't sit outside, but it looked welcoming, too). the wine list is extensive, and the waiters knowledgeable about the choices.
hubby was planning on a steak, but chose the pork schnitzel instead, as it's one of his favourite dishes. i went straight for the pork belly - divine, perfectly cooked, and the option of having two sides just made it better. the caramelised beetroot was delicious and as for the gorgonzola broccoli - yum! our waiter was also very patient at going to find out whether anything contained wheat, and i'm happy to report that their sauces are thickened with maizena, not cake flour.
good thing i didn't order the bulgarian tripe soup as a starter (thanks to our waiter's warning that it was *not* starter-sized) - i would never have been able to have both that and the pork! the portions are far too generous for that to be possible.
all in all, a great new discovery for weekend lunches - in fact, i have already invited friends for lunch, based on today's experience.
