this is one of our staples for quick and delicious asian food. if you have not been able to try vietnamese food, do it here, you will not be sorry.

we ordered the 88 that someone else recommended & it was disgusting. it was a spring roll, but the only vegetable was shredded iceberg lettuce that we believe was old because it had a horrible after taste. my husband enjoyed his main course (shrimp fried rice), but i was not impressed with my shrimp and broccoli. also i found several shrimp that still needed to be deveined. overall we weren't impressed and won't be returning.

love this place.. i have never had anything bad here and i eat there a lot. favorites include the spring roll (number 88) and the "rare beef salad" (number 108). i do recommend the vietnamese dishes, rather than the chinese. they are friendly, fast, efficient, and very inexpensive for what you get.

the soups and the bun, noodle dishes, are a specialty also and are great. they are always willing to customize any dish by adding or subtracting ingredients.

the only problem is when there is a big name concert at hoyt sherman because they can get rather busy before the concert.

i highly recommend this place.

another great urbanspoon recc. was seated promptly although eating solo, quick service. i had the pork stuffed tofu #100; it was yummy. followed with a red bean, seaweed and coconut desert concoction that was also interesting. wish i could stay in des moines an extra day to get to the other dishes highlighted in us: chicken curry, chicken lemongrass, and pork with noodles. glad i came here.

love this place! fresh ingredients, very tasty food. i highly recommend the lemongrass chicken, but my husband loves the big steam pots you can use to cook up your food right there at the table. i'd say the only downside is that if you go at a busy time, service can be pretty slow as they usually seem to be understaffed.

wonderful restaurant. my family has been at the methodist hospital all week and its a quarter mile walk to a dong. as a vegan, it's much easier to find something here than in the cafe. my dad and i have been walking over here 1-2 times a day and love the service and the food. now the friendly young man has taken to setting my dad up with some football and a beer off in the quiet side room while he waits for his take-out, and has wished my mom luck with her recovery. even if the food wasn't wonderful (which it reallllllly is, like, all of it), the service has made us loyal repeat customers who will continue to drive up and visit even when we aren't staying at the hospital.

the forgotten table 23. arrived on a sunday around 1 and it was pretty crowded and you could tell they were really understaffed and rushing around to get everything done. took forever to order and get food. it wasn't just that they were really busy because we saw people come in after us and leave before us. the food was decent (yellow duck curry) and the prices were good, but i wouldn't risk going there again.

great exxperience. i am vietnamese so my opinions are based on authentic vietnamese food.

my over experience here was very enjoyable and would definitely go back. the taste of the food were different from what i normally taste, but it's in no way bad, it's just different.

my friends and i ordered pho, bun bo hue, mi quanh thanh, egg rolls, and springrolls. all the broth based noodle soups were very good with very tender meat and it filled us to the brim (my friends are people who eat big sizes). the springrolls had a lot of vegetables and the shrimp was nicely cooked, just enough juiciness so that it doesn't taste dry.

i don't recommend the eggrolls though because it was way to oily and i feel that a little bit more fillings would be nice.

the over all price for what you get were very fair if not cheap at times. customer service was great: they checked up on us, filled our drinks, and even conversed with us when they found out we were out of town (and vietnamese).

just passing through.... iowa on our way to minnesota, did a little research on a place to stop to eat, and this restaurant came up with some good positive reviews. so why not give it a try?

we tried a few variety of rolls along with some chicken pho - all were mighty tasty. the chicken broth was nicely seasoned & not too salty, more meat than i am used to (good thing!), and ditto for the rice noodles. as most vietnamese restaurants are, it had a laid-back vibe and instantly felt comfortable when walking in. food is reasonably priced as well. the location is no the best as you can easily miss this place if you aren't looking for it.

overall a good experience and would stop back when taking another road trip through iowa. arguably the best pho that i have had, therefore it is currently a "favorite" restaurant of mine.

wonderful adventure. tried the fire pot, #104. what a fun way to share a meal. doubles as spring rolls and as a soup. rich and tangy broth! easily enough for two with more to take home.
