678 korean bbq

great little korean place with one of he best egg dish i’ve had. fresh meat is also a added bonus it just taste a lot better. service is fast and quick. little expensive and long waiting time but not bad.

discovered a great cut of pork perfect for bbq. it’s pork jowl and we had that last sat. yuma. even better than pork belly. form and with the saltiness from the fat it was fantastic. also had the thinly sliced beef belly. not bad!

(update aug 2018, try the marinated pork neck cut- slurp... tasty!)

dumpling are 50-50 for us. skin was pretty slick and oily (which we like) but the filling is rather dry.

i should note that the seafood pancake is made spicy. so if your children doesn’t eat chilli you’ll have to finish it yourself! i’m no korean seafood expert but this was the first time i had one spicy. typically if i wanted spicy i order the kim chi pancake but they didn’t have that option.

japanese food to me is what korean food is to queen v, and no trip to sydney would be complete without a proper korean meal to satisfy those cravings. having done her research beforehand, she opted for 678 korean restaurant, the main store which is situated a quick train ride away in eastwood. . grabbing our table inside, the first thing that jumped at me was of course the cartoon drawings of who i would assume to be the owner of the store. he was drawn everywhere, from the menus to the walls. the second thing to draw my attention, for which i was far more appreciative of was the meat display, which was right in the middle of the restaurant. i had never seen such a display in a korean restaurant before, with the closest having been probably the steak displays in high end hotels in brisbane (norman, breakfast creek etc). seeing this assured me that the meat would be of a high standard.

great service and excellent selection of korean meat for charcoal bbq.

pork belly super delicious, lightly marinated. to maintain quality pork flavor.

wagyu beef nicely marble, goes well with korean sauce and super tasty.

great ventilation and height adjustable.

minimal side dishes. could do with more options.

beef was fantastic, very juicy. service was good. good variety of options and fast service. i seldom eat korean but this restaurant makes me want to come back again.

we arrived at around 5 so there were plenty of seats, but by 6 it was full so book if you don't want to wait. as soon as you enter, you see walls and of autographs and kpop paraphernalia, which was certainly interesting. the cuts of meat were of high quality, and it was nice that we could cook cheesy corn and eggs alongside the meat. the price was expensive but the food was very flavoursome and worth it. i really enjoyed the budae jjigae, it had the right amount of spice. the only downside is that there isn't a lot of banchan, which is understandable since this is a bbq restaurant.

678 is a korean bbq restaurant with two chains, in eastwood and in chinatown. they are known for having a selection of fresh premium meats such as wagyu beef, pork and chicken as well as noodles and rice dishes. we came here for lunch on a saturday keen to get our bbq on. to start off with, we ordered the wagyu oyster blade and chuck tail flap. these were their most premium cuts of wagyu and so tender and delicious once cooked. the meat was heavily marbled and melted in your mouth.

678 is something special. another korean barbecue giant which is amazing and superb! i visited the eastwood chain with high expectations and they were definitely met!

when my family and i were seated, the customer service did not stop. side dishes were immediately brought out with water and other drinks we ordered. the worker helped us order and gave us daily specials and recommendations.

the experience itself was absolutely wonderful. my favourite must’ve been the egg ring along the grill plate. as you cook the meat, the egg slowly cooked and turned light and fluffy. it literally melted in my mouth. another favourite was also the recommended wagyu! oh my, i would never forgot the tenderness and the flavour of the meat!

ambience: noisy  decor: industrial & sterile  service: acceptable  food: average if not slightly above. we dined here on a saturday evening ordering a selection of bbq your own beef, cold noodles & soup.  the cold noodles were less than average in flavour however the meat was reasonable.  there was little if any skill & definitely no love that went into the dishes.  they have a formula that pleases the masses with a simple, basic palate.

korean bbq feast we always love to come back...

out of all korean bbq restaurant we've tried, so far their wagyu beef is the best and we really like their pancakes and dumplings too.... sah recommended! 😆👍🏼

and you gotta try the one at eastwood as we've heard the one in the city branch doesn't have the same bbq grilled egg on the side of your meat... 😁👍🏼

i've been to the 678 in the city, and although the interior of this one isn't as polished and not as big, the quality is the same 🥓🥓
staff were attentive, and there were little call buttons on every table and when you press it your table number shows up on this little screen. i don't remember the city one having these, so we kept calling the waiters by hand.
i would definitely come here again, and it's always nice to eat while admiring the kpop groups' autographs displayed around you if you're into that 😘😘

after seeing 678 all over instagram, i decided it was finally time that i gave them a go! went on sunday night and was impressed that there was an insane amount of parking around (and there is even a carpark attached to the restaurant). upon walking in, it is extremely well lit (which i love because it means good food photos haha) and as you continue walking in, you see how large this restaurant actually is. we got a table straight away which was great considering we were starving. upon sitting down, we were given one menu (for three people), and one ordering card (which made sense).

we originally ordered 8 dumplings, the squid, the seafood pancake, the marinated wagyu beef inside skirt, the thinly sliced beef brisket, the prime fresh cut of pork belly, the soy marinated short ribs and the chilled spicy buckwheat noodles but we were quickly advised that there was no more squid or dumplings which really disappointed us considering we were actually really looking forward to them. we ordered extra meat and another pancake instead. the food came out extremely fast which was excellent and i was very pleased. the majority of the meat was very tasty, but (this could be a common practice, but i've never been told about it before in other korean bbq restaurants) they did not allow us to cook the pork on the same grill as the beef. so we had to cook our beef first and then cook the pork. towards the end, the meat started to have a funny taste which was unfortunate, but overall it was quite nice. the pancake had a little bit too much going on for my liking, but i still liked it. definitely wasn't a fan of the chilled noodles though... none of us ended up eating them. overall, would recommend trying them out. i wouldn't personally rush back (mainly because i personally prefer the buffet style korean bbq's) but if i was in the area, i would go again

love it!! we will go back there again. highly recommended!! the meat there are sensation. the restaurant is very roomy. the service is quite good.

great atmosphere with friendly staff. quick and great customer service! when asked for their recommendations on servings they were very helpful in helping us order the appropriate amount. the wagyu cuts were fragrant and tender. we loved the corn and cheese, egg on the side of the bbq as well! overall a great environment with plenty of space between tables making for a comfortable dining experience!

loved this place. went on a second date here, and now this place is apart of my go-to date destinations. very fun atmosphere, and the food tastes very authentic and clean!
