1808 american bistro

love this restaurant. excellent americanfoodat reasonable prices in a warm and inviting atmosphere. would definitely recommend as a destination restaurant.

went for brunch today. there weren't many people there. we were seated quickly. our drink orders were taken quickly. after that we saw no one for 20 mins. the waiter came back after 20 mins to tell me they didn't have an ingredient for my drink. we finally got drinks and ordered. again waited 40 mins for our food. three of us had the huevos rancheros. they were all cold. tasty but cold. one of us got the shakshuka. it was very hot but the fried eggs were barely cooked. waiter was friendly but not timely. second time ive been there and both times bad service. foodwould have been great if served warm too.

the 1808 american bistro is another fine example of the small but mighty dining scene in delaware. thefoodand beverage offerings there range from the classic diner hamburger inn to the creative 1808 and sister restaurant veritas tavern , not to mention the brewing strength of staas brewing and the now-opening restoration brew worx. there’s also excellent 12 west mexican restaurant, which is just recovering from a recent fire. if you’ve ever hesitated to travel to delaware for a good meal and drinks, you’re now out of excuses.

great service, and yes i'm willing to wait a few minutes for great food. wonderfulfoodand nice cozy atmosphere. can't wait to come back and try the drinks!

servers suck. i came in for dinner and had the rudest server. she didn't seem to care about our table. her attitude was horrible and it ruined my entire experience! myfoodwas great however, i will not return. so sad, kimberly ruined our dining experience.

you should go.. friday lunch. 9 out 10 because thefoodwas amazing. it was our 28th anniversary lunch so at this point, the hubs and i like to split everything. crispy almond chicken salad (entree salad $12.) in a word delish. maple balsamic a first.... loved it. avocado blt $7, two words: peppercorn bacon.❤️ dessert, because we could not get enough of this place; bubba's southern banana pudding $7. cute presentation, no shortcuts with freshly whipped cream. rolled out happy like a couple of stuffed ducks. i read renovations are planned soon understandable as it had that old building ~need to replace the flooring kind of smell. we will be back for dinner but will investigate parking prior. service was fine but it wasn't a full house, which is why we lunch!

good food, slow service. i dine here at least once a week. the quality of thefoodis outstanding! the service is usually slow. if you are not in a hurry and enjoy high quality food, this is the place for you. a great find in delaware.

family dinner. i don't think this is a great value for the money spent. one thing that came out is the martinini price, don't say half price and charge full, service is key. sell us on the drink and then overcharge... party foul. yourfoodcould be great, but that ruins the experience.
we had the crab cakes, walleye and fried chicken.
crab cakes, they had the same color as the walleye, just looking at it i knew it was not a good idea. tell me you are going to deep fry my crab cake. it was dry and tasteless without enough sauce to help it along. the chicken was pounded within an inch of it's life, battered and fried, served with a side of glue. the walleye was ok.
i didn't go there to have a friedfoodfiesta for 150 bucks

great little restaurant. we visited 1808 for dinner tonight and were pleasantly pleased.

the renovated space is beautiful and thefoodwas good. lily had tempura shrimp and the wedge salad, both of which she really liked. debbie had a burger, which she said were really good.

i had the 48-hour short rib. it was good, but the entire dish would have been elevated to outstanding with the judicious use of some salt. the texture and tenderness of the beef were great -- it was supposedly cooked for 48 hours "sous vide." the mashed potatoes actually tasted like potatoes, not some gummy mess like what passes for mash in so many restaurants these days.

all of the elements seemed to lack any salt. too bad. very, very positive experience, but could have been a "top 10" meal!

we'll definitely be back, but hope the kitchen staff starts to season and taste theirfoodmore consistently.

great restaurant. 1808 continues to provide outstandingfoodprepared exquisitely and with excellent presentation. the nature of the interior permits talking without having to raise the volume level to be heard at the table. the wait staff are courteous, attentive and helpful. my wife and i have been there several times and it is always an enjoyable outing.

server was brand new and needed a little polishing up on his timing howeverfoodwas amazing. the menu was diverse. each of us had different dishes and all sampled each others dish and everything was cooked beautifully. highly recommend this place. next time we will stay for dessert and a nice liquor coffee.

this is our favorite place to go for dinner or a drink!. my wife and i have been to 1808 a dozen times in the last 3 months and have yet to be anything less than thrilled. thefoodis amazing, the beer selection is fantastic and it is one of very few places i can order my preferred drink and have it made correctly.

sub par. just moved to delaware from grandview and was very excited to try out the local cuisine. my friend came into town from chicago so i was very excited to take her out on our new town. i had heard wonderful things about the dining experience at 1808. unfortunately, our experience there was nothing less than pure disappointment. after being seated we looked around at our surroundings ... dishes everywhere on tables who had already left, debris all over the floor and the lights at 830 were still on full blast (hello mood lighting or at least dim the lights to hide how dirty everything is!). my friend and i decided on dirty martinis to start the night out. when ordering these from our server (who btw took forever to get waters even out....mind you i have served on and off for over 10 years so i understand being in the weeds or busy and not being able to be as on top of things as you'd like but this was ridiculous). the server did not ask the proper questions up, dirty etc. and when i asked for belvedere or grey goose she had no idea what i was speaking of!!!! my partner ordered a guiness draft. when the drinks finally made it to our table 10minutes later (we had already given our orders by this time and received salads) the guiness had a head about half the size of the pint glass!! unacceptable...please i worked at a brewery i understand it is hard to sometimes get a good pour but this was absolutely absurd!!! i asked the server to please take it back and ask the bartender to rectify the situation....she came back and told us that he had said that's just the way guiness pours...ummm no!!!! i told her that is not so and that perhaps he should learn how to pour a good beer. finally after arguing they were able to get the head of the beer down to about 2 inches (still absurd to me in a restaurant of this supposed "caliber").
i will say this thefoodwas great! unfortunately, the lack of ambiance, cleanliness and pure ignorance of the serving staff will prohibit us from going back. if i plan on spending $75 to 100 a person again on fine dining i'd rather go elsewhere. i've had better service at the final score down the street than 1808. kind of reminded me of the snl skit lowered expectations!!!!

tried for the first time and will likely be last. thefoodhad good flavor but seemed really small serving for $12 and $15. we had no salad offered and no bread, found out at the end of meal it was extra after we asked and saw bread delivered to other tables.

good food, small town service. the comments from the waitress had a lot of jabs and weird digs which took away from the greatfoodand drinks. probably won't be back for a while. you got the feeling she was having a bad day and had no problem taking it out on us. no thanks!
