1808 american bistro

having a gluten intolerance, it's hard enough going to restaurants. my family and i went for their mother's day brunch, the condensed menu had some gluten free choices without certain things - which i'm used to, so after making my choice we waited (a very long time). when the waitress brought out the starter, biscuits, she went to give me a plate and took it back saying "oh yeah, you won't want this". it's not that i don't want it its that i'll be very sick if i eat it. meal came, it was good, dessert time. one gluten free item was créme brûlée. which they were out of. "you can just order the cheesecake and scoop it out of the crust". as if. it doesn't work that way. i'm severely disappointed in her attitude towards my medical issue treating it as though it was a choice.

the tuna tartar is perfect!. we took family to d's last week and my mother-in-law, who would never eat sushi, loved it!

we've tried most of the menu and the crab cakes, the steaks, the salmon and the carpaccio are all amazing!

the service was a little rough when d's first opened, but seems to have gotten into the groove and the pacing is very good now.

we hope d's stays. it's great to have so many terrific dining choices (d's, nova, chandra's, bag o nails, hoggy's & buns) as it adds vibrance and energy to our town.

tried to go there with my children for my birthday.  tried to make reservations but nobody answered the phone.  checked with google and trip adviser, no new information.  checked on their website and nothing unusual.  drove up to delaware from columbus and when we got there, there was a sign on the door, closed 1/1-1/7 for remodeling.   they couldn't have posted this somewhere online???  dumbasses.

the steaks were very good. very good service, we had a large group and were very well taken care of. the beignets and coffee were the big hit!

i took my wife for her birthday last month. that was our first time experience. it was one of the best dining decisions we made. the place was cozy and quaint. our server was very personable. i ordered the shrimp and grits and my wife ordered the filet mignon...scrumdelicious is an understatement! we are going back tonight and bringing friends. if the other dishes are anything like what we had, we're in for a treat! i'm torn as to whether to repeat or try something new.

went here for valentine's day brunch and absolutely loved all of the dishes they offered. great little restaurant with a classy interior, friendly staff, and a small-town feel to the whole place. loved the 3-course meal -- couldn't go wrong with everything that was set in front of us (biscuits and jam for first course, pulled pork sandwich with french fries or nutella filled french toast with strawberries and whip cream for a topping for the second course, and new orleans style beignets or sour cream donuts for the third course).

love this restaurant. excellent american food at reasonable prices in a warm and inviting atmosphere. would definitely recommend as a destination restaurant.

went for brunch today. there weren't many people there. we were seated quickly. our drink orders were taken quickly. after that we saw no one for 20 mins. the waiter came back after 20 mins to tell me they didn't have an ingredient for my drink. we finally got drinks and ordered. again waited 40 mins for our food. three of us had the huevos rancheros. they were all cold. tasty but cold. one of us got the shakshuka. it was very hot but the fried eggs were barely cooked. waiter was friendly but not timely. second time ive been there and both times bad service. food would have been great if served warm too.

the 1808 american bistro is another fine example of the small but mighty dining scene in delaware. the food and beverage offerings there range from the classic diner hamburger inn to the creative 1808 and sister restaurant veritas tavern , not to mention the brewing strength of staas brewing and the now-opening restoration brew worx. there’s also excellent 12 west mexican restaurant, which is just recovering from a recent fire. if you’ve ever hesitated to travel to delaware for a good meal and drinks, you’re now out of excuses.

great service, and yes i'm willing to wait a few minutes for great food. wonderful food and nice cozy atmosphere. can't wait to come back and try the drinks!

servers suck. i came in for dinner and had the rudest server. she didn't seem to care about our table. her attitude was horrible and it ruined my entire experience! my food was great however, i will not return. so sad, kimberly ruined our dining experience.

you should go.. friday lunch. 9 out 10 because the food was amazing. it was our 28th anniversary lunch so at this point, the hubs and i like to split everything. crispy almond chicken salad (entree salad $12.) in a word delish. maple balsamic a first.... loved it. avocado blt $7, two words: peppercorn bacon.❤️ dessert, because we could not get enough of this place; bubba's southern banana pudding $7. cute presentation, no shortcuts with freshly whipped cream. rolled out happy like a couple of stuffed ducks. i read renovations are planned soon understandable as it had that old building ~need to replace the flooring kind of smell. we will be back for dinner but will investigate parking prior. service was fine but it wasn't a full house, which is why we lunch!

this is my favorite restaurant. we took an out of town guest for dinner on 6/10. i was very disappointed. the service was painfully slow and the restaurant was not full. i got the grilled cheese sandwich and it was so greasy i could not even pick it up. the beignets ( my favorite) were dry and there was no honey. we spent over $150 so it was a big disappointment

pleasantly surprised. rec'd a gc for this restaurant. was unsure as the reviews go both ways- cons: the menu is impossible to hold open and read, they brought out warm rolls and chilled plates, they have a huge list of draft beers but she said she would have to check to see if they had each one as they change constantly (so make a new list each day instead of including an outdated list in the menu) pros: the chicken salad was excellent (except for a few too many weed greens) the 1808 salad was good, the rolls were warm & fresh and the beignets were yummy but greasy (i could not stop myself). our waitress was very good.
i would go back- oh yes and the water did not have that "delco" water taste, it actually tasted filtered.

this place will never let you down everything is fantastic!!! also great manhattan's !
