when a new restaurant is getting a lot of positive word of mouth, how could hungry monkey skip that & not delve into it & give it a visit? a lot of promotions, positive word of mouth from closed ones compelled me to try out @zingiberbbsr at nayapalli as well as at patia.
hungry monkey review at @zingiberbbsr : the moment u enter the restaurant, u are asked to remove your shoes & wear from the hawaiis they have stacked for hygiene purpose. but it is a sham as the customers have to take them out, wear and then remove themselves & keep it on stand. basically every customer would have worn those. additionally, no one, i repeat no one wears a mask as if corona was never there.
ordered items: 1 tandoor pomfret, 1 chicken chukka, 2 white rice, 1 rasam, 1 sambar, 1 malabar fish curry, 1 veg kadhai (southindianstyle), 2 coconut pudding & 1 baked yogurt.
tandoor pomfret: average at best, it felt like pan fried with tandoor masala. you can check how this looks in the pic & compare with the one i was served at mirch masala. not recommended!
chicken chukka: good item. a proper southindianstarter. tender, shredded pieces and a good mix of spices.
malabar fish curry: good, but have tasted better. this was more on sweeter side than expected!
veg kadhai (southindianstyle): ok ok. not that great!
sambar: pathetic. a real bad amalgamation of taste, look & texture. dhabba on being a southindianrestaurant!
rasam: saving grace. the only item i liked in the main course for which they charged a whopping 150 bucks. i mean, i have stayed in south india for more than 10 years, but never paid for rasam separately.
cocnut pudding: absolute delight. a very small portion but it had a lot of flavors including nuts. it reminded me of kokonaka candies; kokanaka had a melt-in-your-mouth caramel coconut flavour.
damages: inr 2300.
verdict: i paid 2300 for just good rasam & dessert; its a wastage! not worth it!
