while visiting utah it was wonderful to find a place that i could dine out safely. the pizza we ordered had sun dried tomato's, arugula, vegan sausage, pesto & a marinara. it had amazing flavor, plus no side effects from gluten. it was celiac safe.

thanks for the very good experience.

we are not vegans or even no vegetarians. but we like to eat healthy, so we chose this place for lunch.

we were extremely pleasantly impressed with the food! both mine and my husbands food was very tasty. we had very nice and professional waitress.

even the bloody mary i ordered was great - which i did not expect from a vegan place :)

as a treat to myself, i went to zest kitchen & bar in salt lake city before heading home from this trip. located downtown, i quickly located a parking space and headed inside. i was super early on a wednesday night so the place was pretty quiet. i loved the feel of it even though there weren't many people there. it's a quaint place with a bar at the entrance and plenty of seating. the entrance is constructed of stone and the bright, brown glossy tables had silver chairs to complement them.

fancy small plates place and lively atmosphere.. it's expensive but you will get different types of food. some of their combinations in juices are mind blowing.

we had an absolutely wonderful dinner here. not only was the atmosphere great, but the food was delicious. the marinades were unique and flavorful and the drinks were pleasantly creative. last but not least, the staff was delightful. i would highly recommend zest to vegetarians and carnivores alike!

bland. seems imaginative until you get your order. good idea but poor execution. the beet and walnut dip itself was good but it's served with celery and carrots which doesn't do anything for the dish but make it seem cheap.

bland and bleh. i was looking forward to going to this restaurant. i like eating clean and was expecting to truly enjoy this place. i was supremely disappointed.
i had the tomato-eggplant soup. it tasted only like (you guessed it) tomato and eggplant. i honestly could not taste any other spices or seasonings in it, not even any garlic or salt. there was no flavor to be had, and others at my table who ordered different dishes experienced the same thing. everything was just bland. the only thing that we enjoyed was the bread bites.
after my mediocre lunch experience, i was at least expecting my body to be happy with what i had eaten. instead, i had some of the worst stomach pains i've ever experienced.
in short, i won't be going back there again.

zest kitchen & bar has been open for a few years but i hadn't visited before slug magazine asked me to review it for the january issue .  the food was fantastic and so much more satisfying than i'd ever imagined. let me assure you as a junk-food vegetarian (sandwiches and pancakes are my jam!) that zest kitchen & bar serves killer cuisine. you won't leave hungry or feeling like you dined on rabbit food. each dish has layers of vibrant flavor and different textures. and i've been consistently craving the chocolate cake since i first tried it. i don't seem to get out at night much so i was thrilled when i learned that zest kitchen & bar is now open for lunch tuesday - saturday. this is great news for homebodies and day drinkers like myself! check out my review in slug for details about my favorite drinks and dishes and let me know what you think!

avoid!. bland! i have been vegan/vegetarian/raw-foodist for 2.5 years along with my wife. we have been to many restaurants catering to organic/raw/vegan, etc. food and made many dishes at home. had high hopes for this restaurant. interior looked nice. server was pleasant. food, however was not good. it didn't taste awful, but i can't see how anyone would actually pay for it. everything lacked flavor. had jalepeno popper appetizer and it tasted like, well nothing. my wife had black bean sliders and i had portobello mushroom dinner. both were totally lacking flavor. the chef has an obvious aversion to garlic (vampire?). the menu was very eclectic, but after tasting the food we could tell that the ingredients were put together just to look eclectic, not because they had fantastic flavors. even the party next to us were joking about how their food had no flavor. we saw the good reviews and maybe they changed chefs. we will never go back, however. i strongly caution anyone from spending their hard-earned money here. there are far better healthy/vegetarian restaurants in the slc valley.

saying that zest kitchen & bar is unique is a bit of an understatement.  just trying to categorize it is proof that it’s different from everywhere else in salt lake city.  it’s a restaurant specifically focused on vegetarian cuisine, conveniently making it vegan- and gluten free-friendly.  it’s also a bar, so visitors must be 21.  it’s open late, at which point its focus shifts primarily to a bar, complete with a dance floor and sometimes a dj. the black bean sliders were one of the highlights of dinner. i went to zest a few weeks ago to try out the bar scene and was excited to find out that they play house music on fridays (a rare find for salt lake city).  the crowd was intimate and the vibe was energetic.  anxious to try the food side of zest, a few friends and i returned last week for dinner. the whiskey sour, emphasis on the sour. the cocktail menu has some creative concoctions on it, but i was disappointed that most of them were on the sweet side.  the high west whiskey sour (lem
