great drinks, mediocre food, but worth the experience. growing up my family always stopped here on our way back to seattle from hiking or skiing. i was absolutely in love with it. after a long hiatus, i finally returned last year. the place has changed hands since my childhood and now the food is not great (burger and chili fries). the floats, as ever, were fantastic. if you've never tried it, you should order a green river float. green river is an old school flavor/brand of soda that i can't believe is still around. it's like an intensely sweet cross between 7-up and mountain dew.
if you're wondering about the name, xxx ("triple x") is the (again, old-school) root beer they serve here. delicious - so much better than a&w.
this place has so much character (read: kitsch), it would be a shame to see it go under because the food has slipped. then again, maybe i just grew up. although i still love the 70's stand-alone fireplace and jukebox.
