unique and different..which is a good thing. exterior of theplacelooks like any other corner bar. once inside you step into a neat little establishment with bavarian influence. a vw van sitting in the corner.
i ordered the large pretzel with beer cheese, a feurewurst sausage, and braised cabbage. everything was absolutely fresh and delicious. soo much food. they have so many sausage choices, i just randomly picked one.
thisplaceis a must try, if your into causal dining with great food and excellent craft beers..

overrated.. thisplacehas received a ton of great reviews and 95% of people on urbanspoon liked it. how could i pass it up? unfortunately, i was disappointed by the whole experience.

after i walked in and found a seat, i noticed the menu was written on a chalkboard behind the bar rather than providing printed menus. no problem. then my wife pointed out a sign that stated there was no table service. you have to order your food and drinks at the bar. fair enough. we chose our food and approached the bar to take a look at the draft beer selection. there were only four beers on draft, despite the fact that they had about a dozen taps. maybe they're updating their draft system?

my wife and i ordered pierogies, fries, and three house-made sausages; curry, feuer, and garlic pepper. there was a pretty long wait on a simple order, despite the fact that the kitchen wasn't very busy. while waiting on our food, i couldn't help but notice through the door to the kitchen the repetitive use of a microwave.

our food finally came. the pierogies weren't very warm or particularly tasty, but were topped well enough to mask their mediocrity. the sausages were interesting. the feuer tasted like chili powder. the curry of course tasted like curry and the garlic pepper like garlic pepper. unfortunately, the addition of spices into the sausages couldn't hide how incredibly dry the sausages were. perhaps that's thanks to the microwave? of all our food, the fries were the best, although under-salted, with no table salt in sight.

what a hidden gem this littleplaceis! yes, it is just a bar -- and a small one at that. but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in character, friendly staff, and amazing food! they stay true to the german theme, but give it a creative & fun twist, like a great selection of homemade "wurst" which are served with an equally yummy assortment of homemade mustards. and of course their signature homemade giant soft pretzels -- i don't know if you would actually find these in germany, but they are out of this world! also very yummy are the pretzel dumplings with gravy, roasted brussels sprouts, braised cabbage, daily soups, turkey & goat cheese sandwich, and kale chips. occasionally they feature local musicians, some of which are really excellent. if you are looking for posh with spiffy waiters, this is not the place. but if you are ok with small, simple, friendly, and surprisingly delicious, then don't miss it!

sad disappointment. i was excited to try wunderbar ever since i had heard about when it opened. it took a while to get there, but i finally was able to. it's a small place, but i have no issue with that...it makes aplacea little more cozy. their lack of quality beers was mind boggling. they had a fridge with some bottles, but the selection wasn't impressive. i believe they only had 2 drafts, and neither were anything remotely exciting or german.
i had high hopes for the soft pretzel since i had heard they make their own from scratch. it was huge, but tasteless and cold. the cheese sauce we ordered with it was absolutely pathetic. it tasted like flour and was lumpy. our entree's were small to the say the least, and my sausages looked and tasted as if they were cooked earlier in the day and then reheated. fresh ones (hell even frozen ones) don't look shriveled. at least the mustards were ok. we had so send my wife's meal back to be heated up because the inside was cold.
it's a good thing i had a groupon/living social, etc because i would have been pissed if i had paid full price for this. we couldn't wait to get our check and get out of there. the one bright side...they did let me change the game on the tv though.

good but will not return in the winter. it has a welcoming atmosphere with picnic table seating and welcoming bartender. it was pretty empty for a friday night for our first surprise. order at the bar so service was as expected (ask when you want something) it was freezing and it never got warm. my husband and i both ate dinner with winter coat on and scarf. i would have worn my gloves and earmuffs if i didn't think it would be rude. when they asked for feedback, i said turn the heat on, but they replied with well yeah thisplaceis drafty but warm in the summer and when there's more people here. so basically said i don't care and i'm going to do nothing about.
i got the reuben with brussels sprouts which was tasty. the giant pretzel was a bit dry and of course got cold very quickly as the bar was 40degrees inside. i did love the variety of mustards, mango chutney was my fav. my husband had the pulled beef sliders with potatoes, nothing special but still good. the pickle on the slider was the best part.

overall the beer was the highlight of dinner two bottles of reissdorf kolsch. we may go back but no time soon

i want to like it. first off, let me say that i had high hopes about this place. i love german food, sausages and the like.

i enjoyed the dive bar atmosphere and food network on the tv, it was free of any pretensions and really was just my kind of place.

pricing wise, the food was right on point and i had no problem with the $10 and under per entree. plus i give mad kudos to the fact that they make it all in house, whether that be the sausages, or the mustard, etc.

but unfortunately the food was just not that great. i got the roasted brussel sprouts as a side and they were extremely salty. i'm a salt fanatic, i salt fruit (if that gives you any idea), but the brussel sprouts were seriously oversalted. the brussels sprouts were actually perfectly cooked with great charred bites, but suffered from the heavy hand with the salt.

the sausages themselves were way too lean. i actually try to cook/eat healthy so i appreciate a lean sausage but the lack of fat in the sausage took away any flavor and the sausages ended up extremely dry. they were actually really well grilled with just a hint of pink to them (perfect) but even with the medium well cooking were bone dry and tough. i'm not sure what kind of pork they use to make the sausages, but they needed at least 5% - 10% more fat in the ratio. the sausages didn't have a lot of flavorings (not necessarily a bad thing) but because of that the pork itself needed to shine and it unfortunately fell flat.

overall - the staff was friendly, great atmosphere, reasonable prices, just ok food. i'd like to give thisplaceanother shot because it had such great potential but this may be the type ofplacewere you just go to hang out with friends, drink, and enjoy a giant pretzel rather than a dinner.

the beer selection was nice and theplacelooked nice, but the food was not impressive. i had a grilled pork loin that was bland and tough. the side of shredded carrot and cabbage was also bland. my wife had the apple sausage that didn't have much flavor. i could make better food at home, so we won't be back.

all of the beers and weiners!. if you love food, beer, and a great time, then by god this is theplacefor you! a one-stop destination for all of your after work stress relieving desires. getting an urge for sausage? get the f down here and enjoy! each item on the menu is as succulent and mouth watering as the last! got a hankerin' for some crappy bagged pretzels? forget that! come get a delicious home made pretzel the size of your head! no exaggerations here! (although some heads are bigger than others). want a beer? sure you do, don't kid yourself. if they were to line up all the different beers they had in a single file line, it would wrap around the earth at least 6 times! incredible, i know. tired of ordering from bored, over worked, unconcerned waiters/waitresses/bartenders? then get down to wunderbar and enjoy a good story and a laugh while you order!

fantastich!. i've been there a few times now. the currywurst is fantastic. the pretzel dumplings are absolutely delicious. if you somehow have any room left over, i highly recommend the giant pretzel. it comes with some of their mustards. i'm really not a big fan of mustard but the riesling mustard is quite good. other than the food, it's a great little bar with a good selection of bottled beers and a small but good draught selection. they don't waste any taps on macrobrews like miller or bud. a standout germanplacein a city full of rich, german history.

amazing food!. i have been waiting for something to move on to 12th street since they finished it, and thisplaceis great. does not look like much from outside. your typical corner bar in covington form the outside with some german flags. the inside is nice, clean, and german feeling. besides the lack of natural light, it is really nice inside. the food was awesome. i had an apple and honey sausage with a huge pretzel, beer cheese and a home made roll. wow. really good food. all the food is made in house and beer selection is good, both draft and bottled. easy parking on street that is never metered and never full. will be a regular at this place, so go support a local business and eat some great food. oh, smoke free too!
