winston's cafe

love winston's!. my husband and i have been going to winston's for quite a few years now, we've seen waitresses and cooks come and go, and they've even gotten a new owner (jeff) since we've been going. everyone who is there now are great! it's definitely a small place, but the food is fabulous, and you can not beat the happy hour drink prices! we love winston's atmosphere, food/ drinks, and music!!

this place is outstanding

food was excellent and flavorful in a relaxing environment. came here for lunch and the chicken salad sandwich was excellent so decided to come back for their dinner menu and was not disappointed.

the brownie sundae is off the charts!

horrible experience after being a constant customer for over 2 years. called in my order and showed up 15 minutes after. i walked in and there were 3 customers in the whole place so i know they were not busy. once i got to the bar, the bartender or whoever he was (i don't know because he never introduced himself) looked at me so i assumed i could talk to him. i told him i was here for the to go order, he responded saying he thinks it's almost ready. i pay for my food and have a seat, about 20 minutes later i start getting annoyed that my food isn't ready and nobody has said anything to me. at the 30 minute point i stated to the guy behind the bar that if i had known i would be waiting this long i would have had a beer. he senses my tone and says he will go check on the food. five minutes later, he comes and brings me my food. i go to my car because i'm in a rush at this point. luckily i check the food before i leave the parking lot. my order consisted of 2 large fries, buffalo chicken tenders, and a french dip with chips, this cost 25$. when i open the first box, i find roughly half a box of fries. my chicken tenders were in the next box. and the french dip was in the last box with a couple (6 or 7) of fries and no chips. i immediately go back into the establishment and ask for the correct order that i paid for. some random guy (i think he was an accountant or something but again nobody introduced themselves) that was sitting at the bar drinking beer goes into the kitchen and explains what happened and to give me more fries and an order of chips. the guy behind the bar apologizes again and offers to buy me a beer, which at this point felt like an insult because of how much time i've wasted and poor customer service i had received. as i said, i had been going there for over 2 years, i know the owner and most of the staff and have never had a problem, but this was unacceptable.

very disappointing. after reading the positive reviews on urbanspoon, my family and i decided to give winston's a try. the highlight of our visit was our sweet waitress, frankie. everything else about the place was disappointing, at best. the food was bland, and the atmosphere was dismal. while we dined our view included a vacuum cleaner and shelves of cleaning supplies including several rolls of paper towels and clorox cleaner. sadly, this is not a restaurant that we can recommend.

we are from chicago traveling to beach and have always stayed in in this area on the way. did some searching and thought we would try this place out. all i can say is amazing!!!!! everything we had was delicious and we have several picky eaters! the ahi tuna wrap was the best i have ever had! had it blackened. they had live music and the service was excellent. we will be coming here yearly!!! if you haven't eaten there you are really missing out.

if i'm hanging out in chesapeake, i'm probably here.. winston's is really starting to turn into our go-to spot for a great meal or an after work adult beverage. we've been here quite a few times since the office moved to greenbrier and staff have really taken a shine to us. they know what we like, food or drink, and are just extremely personable.

last friday evening i joined co-workers here and ended up staying for dinner. i want to point out, in case i haven't previously, that all of the beers on the menu are virginia beers and the beer menu is pretty extensive. i've really enjoyed the devil's backbone vienna lager of late. food portions for the price is excellent and most nights they also live music. nothing loud or crazy, just acoustic and it's pretty cool. you should definitely check them out if you're looking for a good locally owned spot in greenbrier.

why haven't i been here for so long.. wow. i'm surprised winston's hasn't been reviewed yet. this was my first visit here in quite a few years, at least 7, and i had an outstanding lunch here this afternoon. it's a long narrow establishment that has the kitchen area on the left side with a bar in the back and then booths running the entire right hand wall.

i ordered the buffalo chicken wrap off the lunch special insert and upgraded the chips to french fries. i wasn't expecting anything out of the ordinary and just hoped it was spicy.

the server / bartender delivered a giant wrap that looked like a super burrito. this wrap was full of chicken, lettuce, tomato, some mayo, crumbled blue cheese and of course the buffalo sauce all wrapped up in a flour tortilla. the price was $7.95 and i'm here to tell you they didn't make cent based on the portion served today. (see the pic).

i have no idea why i've stayed away so long but i'll be back again soon. winston's has a full menu and serves lunch and dinner. they're also open late. also one last thing, during the evenings they have acoustic music just about every night of the week.

check them out if you're in greenbrier and tired of the big corporate restaurants. it's a great alternative.

a definite new favorite. great food, great atmosphere and staff. truly a hidden gem in chesapeake. loved the salmon oscar and the tuna bites and the prices are very reasonable. the staff is very friendly and attentive including visits from the owner himself. the live music topped off a wonderful evening.

good food (big daddys wings, spinach crab dip, ok italian sub), good band(members if the reef), good atmosphere. we would come back.

not good. after reading all of the reviews on winston's cafe, my husband and i headed out to try this place. i was very disappointed. i ordered the special of the night which was surf and turf with sides of garlic mashed potatoes and a salad. the best thing about the meal was the salad. the steak was not cooked as ordered and when i asked for tartar sauce for the crab cake, i was told they were out! we also had to ask for butter for the potatoes and the waitress brought three pieces of wrapped butter and placed them on the table....no plate just directly on the table. my husband had the prime rib...again not good as it was over cooked! after we got home i went back to the reviews i had read of winton's cafe thinking i had read reviews of "some other" winston's cafe since what i read from other reviewers and what we experienced i thought i must have gone to the wrong restaurant. nope...same one. stay away!!!

great atmosphere, bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer was great! frankie is a fun and attentive bartender. :)

greenbrier gem. what a gem! we have become regulars due to the great (can i say awsome) food and the friendly atmosphere. best burgers in town...ice cold beer....it's a great experience to walk in to your local bar and have them remember what you drink and bring it to you with a smile. if you are looking for a small friendly bar/restaraunt with good food all day and good music at night you need to drop by and check it out. you won't be dissapointed.

first time here. the food was amazing, wine selection was great and brandon was a fantastic bartender. there was even a one man band on a monday night. i will definetly come back here. this is a local spot you don't want to miss!!!
