i recently visited thisrestauranti was very upset we had reservations for the mother's day buffett here we got here and was shown to second floor i have six children so it was hard for them to go up and down the stairs and people were going up and down the stairs. there was no hand rails to help either major no no with young kids. someone could fall. this one issue i had the others were staff shake my where do i start. i am waiting in line for buffett with my two older sons and a waitress is behind the bar folding silver wear talking about customers not tipping and how they should raise the prices of buffett because it would limit that many people to come in and eat and also that mangement needed to require people must tip their waitress. i tip depending how we are tookong care of. she made me very upset saying this out loud for anyone to hear not caring about it or who is around. also some of the food was cold that were ment to be hot. i only got to come down once to eat from second floor because they stop serving any food afterwards according to the waitress whenever we seen her. i understand it was busy but make an effort. i saw her in a corner talking to staff members. i was mad at a gentleman also bringing out the food he kept pushing me to the side with his hip that was not necessary i tried to get over as far as possible. i also ask another waitress if we could have a refill. i had a cup and went down the stairs again to find anyone also i hated to do this but i had to put our dirty dishes on one of the unused tables when the waitress came up i told her what i did she told me o well i guess that's ok. i never got to have a refill on my drink because i was to busy trying to find someone to refill my six kids drink and when you have three that are under five they are not patience. all in all i only got to go down once no desert and was all very disappointed on mother's day and went home very hungry and had to cook so i might as well stayed home so i don't think i will ever give this place a try like i said i understand it was mother's day and busy but just wished i had a better experience here.

at canewood. we finally got to wilshire's for dinner last night. the first few times we tried there were no parking places. but monday night was slow and therestaurantwas not crowded at all. the location is at canewood golf course and therestaurantis in the historic general john payne house, which was built in the 1790's. prices are about the same as other georgetown restaurants and the food and service were both better than we expected. the menu is somewhat limited but everything we ordered was very good.

excellent food and fun atmosphere!. we had dinner here last night with friends who eat here regularly so this restaruant came highly recommended. it was worth the drive from lexington to georgetown. it's tucked away in a beautiful golf course community and easy to find. the menu offered a variety of comfort foods and healthy items from fish to chicken and beef and great soups and salads. there was so many different items to choose from but i went with one of my favorites, walleye fish with mac n cheese and fresh vegetables. it was awesome and this is one place to try to mac n cheese, don't skimp here! others in our party had tomato basil soup with spinach salad and grilled salmon , seafood croquettes, chicken croquettes and the appetizer we had was country ham egg rolls and they were yummy! i could not try everything in one night so i will definitely be back and i would definitely recommend thisrestaurantto anyone looking for really good reasonably priced food. we sat in the room in the back where it was quiet but the bar had a great country singer and it was hopping with people having a great time! the owners were great people and really want you to have a great experience here! thanks, laura for your great service and excellent food! kim buckley

wilshire's- georgetown kentucky's best kept secret!. wherever we travel, my husband and i prefer to immerse ourselves in local traditions; staying and dining at historic inns and restaurants. recently, on a genealogy research trip to bourbon and harrison counties, we stayed at cynthiana, kentucky's beautiful seldon renaker inn. on the second evening, we used our laptop to find a goodrestaurantin georgetown that also had historic appeal. my architect husband quickly spotted arestaurantthat held lots of promise - a 200 year old former family home of general john payne that had been transformed into a dining establishment within the canewood subdivision and golf course (an unlikely location). we devoured the website's history of one of kentucky's oldest homes - built in 1790 - and were intrigued by photos of the incredible two story stone structure. but, best of all, wilshire's promoted a "two can dine for $39.99." this special deal included dinner rolls, soup or salad, a choice of entrée, and a bottle of house wine or two desserts! we called, made reservations, and got directions. it was dark and we were traveling in unfamiliar terrain, so we required assistance. using our cell phone, we called for better directions. a friendly man stayed on the phone with us until we had the beautiful old home in sight.

upon entering wilshire's, we were greeted with the warmth and friendliness one would expect from family or old friends. both the owner, don wilshire (wife laura), and general manager, chuck helms, introduced themselves with big smiles and firm handshakes. we thanked chuck profusely for spending so much time on the phone giving us directions. he had literally "beamed us in" to the restaurant. we were escorted to a back room table, reserved especially for us, situated next to a fireplace. the ambiance was romantic and the room was decked out in beautiful autumn foliage, tiny pumpkins, gourds, and candles. the room was full of guests engaged in cheerful chatter. from time to time, before we ordered and while we waited for our appetizers, we noticed that the executive chef chris cruz, chuck, and owner don made a point of stopping at each table to converse with diners. at first, we thought the guests at other tables were planning some future event. when we were given the same special attention, we soon realized that thisrestaurantwas serious about providing outstanding service. the sincerity of their approach was unquestionable. from the owner, manager, and chef, to our server emily, we were treated throughout the entire evening like very special guests. and dinner was absolutely amazing! chef cruz is probably more passionate about providing palate-pleasing dishes than any chef we've met. and the proof was in the proverbial pudding. each course was delicious and the presentation was lovely.

so what did we select? our appetizer was big enough for a meal in itself! we chose the tomato, pesto, and provolone bruschetta appetizer (fresh tomatoes, homemade pesto with melted provolone cheese topped toasted sourdough points, served with a tasty garlic and herb infused olive oil).

we both ordered wilshire's house salads (chopped romaine and green leaf lettuce, red cabbage, carrot, tomatoes, cucumbers, and croutons with our choice of dressing - balsamic vinaigrette. our salads were accompanied with hot, freshly baked sister schubert yeast rolls and butter. mmmmnnn.

hubby ordered the 16oz choice ribeye seasoned with their special blend and grilled to perfection. i ordered the chicken marsala, a plump and tender chicken breast topped in a yummy marsala wine reduction. served with roasted pepper risotto and a delectably sautéed zucchini and yellow squash medley.

we couldn't possibly finish our huge dinners but couldn't resist sampling the two desserts we had ordered. our pleasant server provided us with boxes for the leftovers so we could top it all off with sweet treats that were indescribably out of this world! i had a huge slice of deep dish caramel apple pie a la mode drizzled with a heavenly caramel streusel sauce. hubby, always thrilled whenever he can find chocolate peanut butter pie on a menu, told me that it was exactly as described: a "dense chocolate and rich peanut butter cream in a graham cracker crust". both desserts were so large, and our appetites so satiated by this time, that we actually boxed up half of our desserts too! despite the fact that we were visitors from out of state, spending a couple more nights at the seldon renaker inn in cynthiana, we knew we had access to a refrigerator and microwave, so were able to enjoy our splendid wilshire leftovers the next night! what an absolutely divine dinner we had. and so affordable! as promised, chuck gave us a tour of the historic property. we were impressed and delighted that don and laura wilshire made sure that their renovation maintained the integrity of the 200 year-old home while meeting code. upon leaving, we were sent away with our goody bags, more handshakes and hugs and felt that we had become fast friends in short time. georgetown is fortunate to have such a specialrestaurantthat obviously cares about its patrons. that's what i call catering cuisine with compassion.

a good start....... charming interior. sweet, attentive wait-staff. but, it is time to change up the menu. go seasonal, go local, get proud! they do have specials on the menu each night, a good sign.
the salad dressings are home-made and are very well made, in fact the salad was 'dressed' just perfect! and the salmon with the onions and red peppers.....hmmmmmm, that just didn't work. the salmon was cooked nicely, but the 'hunks' of veg ...... not appealing! that needs a rethink.
all in all.....a great start and our family will continue to see how the place develops!
