west first wood-fired pizza

good food and gluten free. i have enjoyed everything that i have tried at west first. the servers have usually been great but i do have to say the hostesses can be very rude.
the atmosphere at west first is very urban and hip. they offer a wide selection at the bar and their food is great! i have cieliac's and have not had any trouble eating at west first. i really appreciate that they have such a wide variety of gf choices, most of the time i am limited to 2 or 3 choices. i have also found that most of the servers are very well educated on gluten and their menu.

not the greatest. while visiting asheville, decided to make the journey down to west first wood-fired pizza based on the urbanpoon reviews. the ambiance of the restaurant was very nice. we had to wait a bit (friday night), but it wasn't too bad. our waitress seemed nice, we ordered salads and a cheese pizza.

i really enjoyed my salad, especially the homemade dressing. wife thought she had too much dressing on hers. regardless, our experience went down from here. it took us roughly 30-40 minutes after we had received our salads to get our cheese pizza. we also had to watch other tables, who were seated way after us, get their food. our waitress offered no explanation other than it was taking awhile. something went wrong; either our order wasn't submitted correctly, they burned our pizza, or some other kitchen mishap. but like i said, no explanation.

pizza was average. the crust on 3 or 4 slices was burnt.

delicious pizza. my husband and went to asheville for our anniversary and went to west first for dinner one night. everything about the restaurant was wonderful. our server was helpful and suggested a bottle of wine that is now our favorite go-to. the appetizer, pizza and dessert were all delicious. if we ever make it back to asheville, we'll definitely try to eat at west first again!

west first wood fire grill specializes in pizza with a unique style and local ingredients. the dough comes from the flat rock bakery (located in the back of the wrinkled egg in flat rock) and was unlike anything you will find from your average pizzeria.

not much better than frozen pizza. we had high expectations for west first pizza because of the reviews and because we've been to the parent/original location in flat rock- the flat rock bakery.

west first pizza is lacking in every way. the sauce tastes like it came from a can (way too sweet). the prosciutto looks and tastes like canadian bacon. i couldn't even finish a 9" pizza it revolted me so much.

i don't know if they are trying to impress/draw people with words like 'gluten free' and 'organic', but the pizza was lacking in taste and preparation skill. we eat a lot of organic foods and one thing they aren't is lacking in flavor so i don't know what west first is doing to their ingredients.

the server seemed asleep. when she brought our pizza, she literally rammed her way through us, almost slamming the pizza's into the side of our heads, to get the pizza's onto the table. and it wasn't an accidental case or some such. she was just plain rude.

the pizza at west first bears no resemblance to the food found at the flat rock bakery. if all you ever eat is pizza hut pizza, then this will seem like pizza hot from naples. otherwise, it's crap. the flat rock location serves excellent pizza and is a far better value than this place.

very good thin crusted pizza. we have eaten there many times and never disappointed.

sue. their dessert, chocolate frangelico tiramisu, was the best i've ever had!!! i'd love to have the recipe. is there any way to find it?

delicious. i work on main street in hendersonville and we love to order pizzas from here! amazing taste and selection. they even have gf pizzas. the staff is very friendly and accommodating.

the day we went the service was quite slow. however there were six in our party and it is wood fired pizza so i will give them some leeway on that. the food was absolutely delicious and i highly recommend their herbal tea.

lucky local. i live in hendersonville, and so am fortunate that i get to eat at west first anytime i want to. their food is made always with fresh, real ingredients, and their pizza is sublime. i just tried the potato pizza for the first time at the recommendation of the hostess, and it was delicious. hard to imagine? take a great, thin crust, add a layer of razor thin potatoes in place of sauce, add nuts, gorgonzola and fresh herbs....yum! if you're in flat rock during the day, go to their other location...flat rock bakery, which serves magnificent sandwiches, salads, pizzas, fresh made soups, and all kinds of wonderful danish, scones, cookies and breads, all baked in their brick, wood-fired oven. all this, and heaven too?

excellent pizza, modern setting. i ate at west first with my mom for lunch of my 18th birthday. we had the briscia (not sure of the name exactly) 13" pizza with chicken. it was simply excellent. the pizza was literally perfect, cheese, crust, meat, and all. the environment was very modern and nice, and our waitress was great. good prices, too.

only problem was that it's hard to find and notice, so be weary of that. probably the best pizza i've had.
