love the mussels fra diablo here. spicy, garlicky and tomatoey. perfect! and generous portions. been coming here for 15 years and make it a point to stop here whenever i am in new york. i’m sure they have other great dishes on the menu but the mussels washed down with a belgian tripel, nothing better!

belgium 🇧🇪
dispatch from garden city, new york:
enjoy moules-frites from the people that invented it, or go one step further with the tower of seafood called waterzooi, the namesake of this long island establishment. an excellent list of beers from belgium make the bar here destination worthy, and possibly a brussels-style waffle on the weekend during brunch.

place category: long island, new york restaurants, french, and garden cityplace tags: belgian restaurant, european restaurant, and mussels. located in the heart of garden city, waterzooi belgian bistro and oyster bar has served over 2.5 million pounds of mussels to date. waterzooi also has an extensive beer list, which is a beer lover’s heaven. i’ve been visiting waterzooi for years and the food has remained amazing the ambiance is casual yet lively, which tends to attract a younger, yet mature crowd. overall, this is definetly one of the top 10 restaurants to visit in nassau county, long island.

amazing muscles. i have tried all the types. personal favorite is the pineapple and paella ones. the muscles come with fries and mayonnaise which compliments them well. having amazing waffle desserts. would recommend making a reservation.

we have had many times lunch and dinner at this restaurant for mainly the mussels and frites which come in massive pots. also the selection of belgium beer is extensive with unbelievable imports that you don’t find in many pubs. it is a lively atmosphere which can be noisy with the after work with a young energetic crowd. outdoor seating can be great place to sit if you want to remove yourself from the noisy inside bar and dining room. my favorite place for moules on the long island and truffle fries.

i want to call this " a trip to belgium without flying". excellent selection of belgium beers (as one would expect). interestingly enough, our waiter suggested that when it comes to the belgium beers, the bottled beer is better than the one on tap, because similarly to the wine, belgium beer continues to develop in the bottle.
excellent selection of appetizers, and the major attraction - mussels - doesn't disappoint. there is a huge variety of flavors, all excellent, and the portions are quite large.
keep in mind that you better have a reservation as the place is hard to get into. also expect good level of noise. excellent friendly service. highly recommended.

when i'm at my last straw with the traffic crawl, the pre fixe comes in handy.. a very (very) occasional midweek indulgence. if it's just you or one other person, you can easily find a table in the bar area after work. it's noisy, but half the fun is the gossip of the young professionals whose common sense hasn't caught up to their business sense. the other half is the generously-portioned and tasty mussels pre fixe. (i go for the provencal.) the fois gras appetizer is excellent, but if you want to keep it on the cheap, stick with the pre fixe and a nice beer. the rest of your commute out east will become more bearable, i promise.

moules - frites - bier - waffels. on a mirror located in the main dining room area is proclaimed the words on the title header. add hamburgers and you have the essentials of waterzooi. do not even think that you may walk out hungry if you order mussels.
do order mussels and draft beer. the tab can mount quickly. do not fret over it. you and your guests will be happy. a power lunch, available monday through friday, is easier on the budget conscious.

mussels from brussels. this is the place to go for mussels. they come in a huge pot with frites which are wonderful crispy french fries. the fries reminded me of the french fries i ate in paris many years ago. the ambiance is a little dark and dreary but if you love mussels who cares? a large pot of mussels in one of their many signature broths and you wont have time to look around.

phenomenal. got the 3 course mussels special for $19.95. the appetizer and dessert were average, but the mussels were sublime. about 100 small tender mussels in a goat cheese, red pepper and white wine broth was outrageously flavorful, i could not eat all the mussels. the frites and mayonnaise (sounds bad) were addictive. a tremendous meal for a small amount of money. i am coming back!
