i friend and i tried wah kee for lunch recently. there are two rooms with many tables. we had to step into the second room to find the waiter to seat us. they were not very crowded. the waiter was very friendly. they have an extensive menu.

after perusing their menu, i decided to try one of their lunch specials: szechuan spicy pork. my thinking was there were so many items on the menu, i would try one of the lunch specials which they would be expecting to sell many of and make well. i was disappointed in the dish. it was very bland, covered in a brown sauce, and i didn't notice much if any spice. it did have lots of vegetables, zucchini, bamboo shoots, onion, mushrooms and came with a large portion of rice. for an appetizer i had the sticky rice in lotus leaf. this was much better although again it could have used more flavor. i did enjoy the dense chewy sticky texture of the rice and the chunks of chicken inside. my dining companion had the cashew chicken and said it was very good.

i would be willing to go back. i don't think i would try another lunch special, but would go for something else and hope it had more flavor.

driving westbound on williamson, we passed by wah kee on our first go around.  wah kee is a family owned restaurant. the heat hadn't kicked in when we arrived.  we dined with our jackets on.

an odd duck. i got takeout from here and was pretty disappointed. while their scallion pancake was tasty, the rest was either average or below par. i ordered the roast duck with taro and was honestly shocked by the pieces of duck they gave me. it looked like someone had butchered this duck in the most haphazard way possible. i was able to identify a duck neck, the very bottom of a leg (they had chopped the leg bone into pieces which i've never seen before) and a fair amount of skin that was not attached to any meat. the sheer number of bones i encountered in the dish was truly disturbing. taste wise it was ok, but thanks to the way it was prepared i would never order it again. my girlfriend got the vegetable fried rice and sauteed broccoli and was not very impressed by either dish. she had to put soy sauce on her broccoli to supplement the flavor because it was definitely lacking. needless to say i'll be going elsewhere when i'm looking for chinese.

what noodles should be. have been going to wah kee for 20 years for soup - the noodles are made there and are sold and used by almost all of the other noodle places in town (that aren't some chain) and the homemade wontons, rich broth, and some added heat are soothing to the soul. the menu is big and the food is reliable if not inspired but there is no better ramen soup i have had in this country.

it's a noodle house, and one could spend weeks just sampling all the house-made noodles here.

had the riblets appetizer. too much bone not enough meat. had the oxtail peanut noodles. oxtail was cold & tough. could've been more tender & at least room temperature. service was slow. choose a table not a booth. felt every move the person sitting beind me made.

mixed reviews. we ordered takeout from wah kee this weekend. the time between placing our order and receiving our food was phenominal! the staff was very helpful with our menu questions while ordering, which was much-needed since the entree options were many!

i ordered the korean bbq beef (bulgogi) fried rice (f3). the fried rice was very tasty! they weren't stingy with the extra ingredients within the rice. i had expected the bulgogi to be cut into smaller, chunks and mixed throughout the rice, but there were 3 large pieces of beef on top of a bed of rice instead. i've had bulgogi that has been more tender, but as a whole i was pleased.

my boyfriend ordered general tso's chicken (g2). he was a little disappointed in the quality of his plate, indicating that it was low on flavor.

the prices were a little higher than an average chinese menu, but i thought the quality of food was higher as well. our review is inconclusive; i guess you'll have to try them out for yourself. :)

try the seafood kwai tiew, which is mixed seafood with chow fun noodles (wide rice noodles). it isn't on the menu but is always on the special board. they will even take other chow fun requests--chicken with vegetables, etc. terrific stuff.
