my favorite place for date night.foodis always good and we have always had really great service. normally i like old favorites when we go out to eat, but at vogue i really like to try new things each time. the burger is great, fries are sold separately. i have had the ribeye a few times and it is always cooked to perfection. cocktails are worth checking out. it is easy to spend a good amount of dough here if not paying attention.

vogue bistro is a small cafe that offers a variety of foods made with french taught techniques. the chef has trained in france. due to hitting them on an off day i saw them at the worst but i also tasted how amazing thefoodis too and food-wise this was more amazing than terrible. after we ordered we waited about a 1/2 hour for our lunches. they ignored my husband's request to leave off the aioli on his panini. so we wait another around a half hour for a new one. however my salad was sitting in the window getting warm and wilted all this time. as warm and wilted as my salad was it would have been rock star amazing if it was fresh made. the creamy shallot dressing was so good i could drink it and the walnuts in my salad were very complex. the added house smoked salmon was possibly the best smoked salmon i ever had. unfortunately my husband's panini suffered something inflicted by the cook that was on and made the pork very dry. it was drier than dogfoodjerky and it was more like it had rigor mortis set in. my husband didn't say anything about it because he was already upset about the wait. our waiter not knowing about the dry pork offered us a dessert on the house and i picked the house made chocolate collection of assorted chocolates. they were made of very high quality chocolates and were delicious. our lunch took about two hours. i don't know what went wrong in the kitchen as it wasn't terribly busy.  i do know i didn't see chef aurore working in the kitchen.

a hidden treasure. my wife and i have been in need of a date night for some time. our 9 month old son has been ruling the roost for too long, so you can imagine our joy when visiting family insisted that we take ourselves off for the evening and leave the childcare to them!

my wife researched where our date should take place, asking me for some general input. with freshly polished shoes and the promise of goodfoodwe made our way to vogue... and i am so pleased we did!

firstly, this restaurant is pretty hidden away in the corner of a shopping mall parking lot. i was really apprehensive as we arrived, i had read the menu... twice (the second time with drool running down my chin!), but the approach to the restaurant seems to be adorned with boards advertising vogue burgers! oh no! had we made a mistake? should we head to the keg for a steak instead?

once inside we were greeted and shown to a lovely table. the ambience is almost perfect with subdued lighting and music... but conversation with my wife was difficult at times because of the huge tv screen that i could see directly behind her above the bar. several times my eyes wandered to the classic movie and i had to make a determined effort to keep my attention on the table... of course my wife makes that easy, but i struggle to understand why a nice meal needs to be accompanied by a john wayne movie.

the wait staff were exceptional, offering us a brief history of the restaurant and taking our drink orders very quickly. we sought advice on the wine andfoodmenu from the front of house staff and were pleasantly surprised at the recommendations they gave us.

thefoodwas very good, but not without frustration. i started with foie gras, and i was expecting a tender, melt in the mouth pan fried goose liver... what i received was pate de foie gras - 2 triangular slices of pate. i felt slightly cheated, but i guess the clue in the menu was that it was served with brioche toast, so i gave the chef the benefit of doubt. it was a delicious pate none-the-less.

my main course was a rabbit stew... i would not hesitate to recommend this dish to anyone who is visiting this restaurant. i would rank this as one of the best dishes i have eaten in the last 2 years. a sumptuous bowl of comfort... rustic, warm, flavorful - this dish has it all!

and then to finish, a chilled chocolate custard that was creamy and rich.

i have to be honest, i have no idea what my wife was eating! despite the intrusive tv my eyes were either on my plate or closed in ecstasy with the pleasure of each bite.

my birthday is in a couple of days time and i had to make a decision where to celebrate... this place won out (with binkleys a close second)... i can't wait to taste that rabbit stew again!

cudos for trying. judging from the crowd this restaurant is successful and they deserve much credit for surviving as an independent fine dining bistro in a sea of franchise establishments. however, we left disappointed that our high expectations were not met. ambiance, table presentation, foodpreparation, presentation and service were below fine dining expectations. without going into detail the appetizer and entrees were below standard and ordinary. we wanted to leave delighted but left disappointed. my conclusion is that they survive due to not having nearby competition. i hope that they continue their success, but we see no reason to return.

very good restaurant. i wouldn't call it french. perhaps an american bistro with french overtones. the wine list was diverse and had a lot of "by the glass" options. thefoodwas quite good. i had the vogue salad andy wife had the beet salad and both were very tasty. my wife had the duck confit which was well-seasoned and tender as it should be with wonderful potatoes. i had the vogue steak and fries. the steak was prepared perfectly with a wonderful sauce and the hangar steak was quite tender and a very generous portion. we shared a bottle of a beautiful napa cabernet that they decanted for us. it paired nicely with both dishes. for dessert, my wife had the pistachio gelato and i had the creme brûlée which was devine. the service was also very attentive but not obtrusive. all in all, i would definitely recommend vogue bistro.

our favorite restaurant. we love this quaint restaurant in surprise. we've been to vogue bistro several times in the past and enjoyed great ambiance, exceptionalfoodand warm reception that owners and servers always offered to us. even though we moved to glendale last year we still try to visit vogue as often as we can. coming from new york and having traveled throughout the europe i can say with certainty that there isn't a betterfoodthan chef aurore's. she is a diamond in the rough. we always start with fresh oysters on half shell. last time we both ordered chef aurore's specials. i had a chilean seabass with razor clams, farro, organic vegetables and champagne sauce and my husband had a giant bone-in ribeye with mushrooms, a very tasty savory tart and malbec wine sauce. our dessert was an assorted array of freshly made chocolate truffles, gelatos and crème brullees that the owner, aurore's husband treated us to for our anniversary. thefoodwas simply exceptional. our server was attentive and eager to please. he suggested a wonderful pinot noir for us. the couple who sat next to us came all the way from cave creek because nobody in the valley prepares a better duck than chef aurore. after dinner we spent some time at the bar enjoying andrea bocelli concert in tuscuny and shared a fabulous chocolate martini. i'm so jealous of everyone, who lives in surprise, to have such a treasure right in the neighborhood. we can't wait to go back.

extraordinary restaurant. we love this small family owned place. we've been coming here for the past 5 months after reading a great review in az republic. on our last visit we had an amazing rack of lamb, a salad and the best tiramisu i've ever tasted, a three course dinner for $29, which we thought was very reasonable. the portion was large and sever was nice enough to give us a heads up so we shared the entire meal. we both have days off on mondays and in our neck of the woods there aren't any good restaurants open on mondays except for chain places. for years we've been going to arrowhead and past couple of years to the westgate, and now we can have a martini (or two) and drive only 5 min to our house. thank you vogue for coming to surprise! a couple of money saving tips for those of you who frequently visits vogue. go to their website and sign up for vip program: you'll get $25 gift cert for every $300 spent; also they will email you all their promo dinners and specials, as well as invitations to wine dinners planned in the future (can't wait for those). download all current specials and coupons from their website's events page. on one of our visits we've printed out a coupon for a free martini with a purchase of an entrée. next time i'm bringing my girl-friends for lunch to try their famed panini sandwiches, which they offer, unfortunately, only at lunch time. we definitely will be coming back. i hope this is helpful for those looking for a great local spot.

a nice non-chain restaurant in the west valley. nice to see a non-chain restaurant in the west valley. had a reservation for 6:30pm on a saturday night and glad we did, the place was packed! vogue bistro is very small and intimate. you can see what the people next to you ordered and listen in on their conversation. our waitress was nice, however she went on and on and on about the menu, specials, drinks, etc. then, she would disappear for long amounts of time. very strange. we decided to order the calamari appetizer, beet salad and eggplant parmesan entree. the calamari appetizer was more fried carrots than calamari. you really had to poke around to find the calamari. i didn't care for the sauce they served it with either. the beet salad was pretty decent. it had a huge chunk of goat cheese, which i love. the salad could have used a little more dressing, however. the eggplant parmesan was delicious. it came out baked in a fluffy pastry-like bread. it was total comfortfoodand i would definitely recommend it, especially to vegetarians. despite our waitress being mia, especially toward the end of the night when we wanted to pay our bill and leave and forgetting to bring out our warm bread we requested, vogue bistro is a cute, little restaurant. perfect for a date night. make sure you like your date though, because you can expect to spend a lot of time there. also, try and sit on the patio. it's nicer, quieter and a litte more spacious. weather permitting, of course.

what a great experience!!!. first of all, likemy2boyz, a reviewer was completely inaccurate in my experience. i completely agree with the email that was written back to him in response to his complaint. i personally spoke with the owner who had written the response himself and totally agree that if this reviewer did not like the restaurant, he did not need to come back. the restaurant that roman and his wife, chef aurore, have created is exceptional in service and excellent in their cooking. we called and made our reservations at the last minute and still was given a table in such short notice without complaint. our waitress, ray, was exceptional. she was very persistent as to see how we were doing and refilled our drinks on a regular basis. the atmosphere in the bistro was very comfortable. they played french music and movies where the sound was at just the right level. when we looked around we saw that the restaurant was family owned and it was a great atmosphere for anyone.
normally, in my experiences, a restaurant in this type of venue, children are looked down upon when entering the restaurant and receive a lot of stares. not this one!!! the chef and owners 7 year old daughter was very charming and welcoming to the customers. we arrived with 3 children 6, 10, and 11 years of age. automatically, she asked her mother to come and greet us to see if they would accept her invitation to play. she was a very sweet little girl and the kids would love to return again just to see her. our 6 year old asked to return for her 7th birthday. i am very pleased to know that kids are welcome in such an upscale venue. the restaurant was very family oriented.
now about the menu and food... the menu gave such a great french vibe. thefoodwas excellent and was the best french cuisine that i have ever seen in the greater phoenix area. our family had many different menu items, but the dessert stuck out the most. the berry cobbler and crume brulee was excellent. such a great last taste of this wonderful restaurant. the menu was reasonably priced for the wonderful food. the chef introduced herself to our table along with the owner at the end of our meal. it was an exquisite dining experience and i will return sooner than not. i give them 5 stars without the pretentious 5 star atmosphere which is a plus since it was in comfortable surprise instead of typical scottsdale. don't miss this opportunity!!!

rude rude rude!!!. the resturaunt has comment cards with limited space so i emailed the place to let the know about my night with a irritated hostess because we didn't have reservations, wobbly plastic furniture, over cooked food, a salad that still had a produce sticker & an inconsiderate waiter/mngr who put the shade up for another table yet blinded my table..... this is the email i got back....

well, what can i say other than im glad you've fulfilled your destiny as a pathetic habitual complainer lacking class and decency. i don't appreciate
your attitude your narrow minded approach and your ignorance of the fact that a small family owed restaurant attempted to defy odds and deliver quality dining to a community bound to fastfoodchains and mediocre diners. one thing i can tell with certainty is you don't deserve to be in our restaurant --- you belong in applebees and outbacks of this world. please do not ever come back. we don't need customers like you. on the positive ....keep on complaining about your burgers...maybe this violent world will become a better place some day. so long."
