business dinner. my husband and i met his boss and wife for dinner on tuesday, 8/21/12. reservations were made for 7:30pm. we arrived promptly at 7:30 and were seated at a table on the outskirts of the outdoor patio. it was an incredible evening (weather-wise) so the patio was jammed with people. however, there was no waiting since we had our reservation. they have a lovely patio and it certainly made for great surroundings. despite all the people, it wasn't so loud you couldn't have a conversation.

my husband and i started with a cocktail which was brought promptly while we waited for the other couple to join us. i was fine with the wait because we wanted to have time to peruse the extensive menus. my cabernet was excellent (st francis, i believe). we decided on two appetizers between the four of us; the brushchetta and the green chili wontons (i believe this was the special). both were wonderful and had an excellent presentation.

my husband and his boss each had a dinner salad. the dinner salad's were a perfect size to start off the meal. my husband had the caesar salad. it was fresh but not overpowering. the fresh baked parmesean cheese reminded me of the parmesaen bowls served at napa river grill. the fresh made croutons weren't anything too special.

then came dinner. i elected to try the fried chicken. to be honest, it didn't have much flavor and the chicken was dry. i also felt it was overly breaded. the breast was dry but the leg was better. the garlic mashed potatoes were delicious. my husband chose to have the ribeye which he ordered medium. when he cut into it, it was raw. i had visions of gordan ramsay slamming the plate down in the kitchen at his chefs and screaming "it's raw" as he made each chef come over and touch it just to see what raw meat felt like. it made me chuckle.

the boss had the short ribs which he said were just fine and his wife had swordfish (a dinner special). she thought her swordfish was cold. so, the server came and returned the ribeye and the swordfish to the kitchen. both were returned to us a short time later and were now cooked as ordered. however, my husband felt as if the ribeye didn't have much flavor. i would think that if you paid $34 for a steak, it would be flavorful and tasty. so, he was disappointed to say the least. i didn't complain about my chicken since i figured that white meat is typically overcooked so possibly wouldn't make a difference.

as soon as the re-cooked plates were brought back out, it was followed by a manger who was sincerely apologetic. since the food was made correctly after the 2nd attempt, we all felt it was extremely nice of him to offer free desserts for each of us (since i was anxious to try the banana pudding with nila wafers). so, i had that and was floored at the quanity that was put in front of me. it was so scrumptious and would've certainly fed two. my husband had the cheesecake and thought it was wonderful as well. the other couple tried ice cream and i did get a taste of the dulce-de-leche scoop and thought it was just to die for.

i would certainly like to go back simply to try other items on the menu (the meatloaf burger sounds intriguing); maybe on an evening when they aren't so packed. it's certainly possible that it played a roll in the quality of the entrees that were received. we were there for 2 1/2 hours so definitely don't be in a hurry if it's crowded. just sit back and enjoy the atmosphere.

i had the most amazing time at the village anchor in anchorage, kentucky. having never been to anchorage before i was treated to gorgeous nautical themed homes, amazing lake views and the cutest restaurants all nestled together with the flagship being the village anchor. and all 20 minutes away from downtown! during the winter there is an insulated outdoor heated patio with a roaring stone fireplace to keep you warm while enjoying the view. this place was absolutely darling. take a look for yourself by clicking through the thumbnails below. what we ate : anchorage award-winning chili with freshly fried pita chips. french onion soup with a toasted brioche crouton. a fried egg sandwich with fresh basil leaves, fried pancetta on sourdough bread, with garlic ailoli. hand-cut sweet potato fries with rosemary salt and vanilla/brown sugar seasoning. served with a creamy marshmallow dipping sauce. gorgeous pink grilled north atlantic salmon, sauteed baby spinach with a balsamic glaze. why we'l

wine tasting. i have always wanted to learn more about different wines and i finally found the place i can afford. they actually let you taste three different wines to help you decide what you want and each week they are different. i can test out new wines and only have to pay for the one i like.

jay gatsby himself never served a feast comparable to the one i recently enjoyed at the village anchor pub and roost, aka the sea hag. located in anchorage, about twenty minutes from louisville, this magnificent restaurant experience is unforgettable. seated under the striped awning of a black and white umbrella on one of the village anchor's patios, listening to the strum of live music and the pleasant chatter of my friends, i had one of the loveliest meals i've ever eaten. the village anchor serves american food done right, and by that i mean the restaurant serves old standards like fried chicken, grilled scallops, and devilled eggs as they were meant to be served, with a twist. devilled eggs are mixed with delicate truffle oil and mushroom, capriole and goat cheese, siracha and bacon. the fare is ambitious and interesting without getting too weird. i went to the village anchor with lauren, brett and kaelyn, three of my dearest friends, and we started the night out (as we are wont to

great venue, good food, terrible service...sad. waited 35 minutes to get drinks after being seated, waited over an hour for our food and had to ask to have our plates cleared.

2 strikes. wish i liked it, because it is convenient to my house and has great decor, but... the service has been poor and the food isn't very good. we went twice and probably won't go back.

but we did see muhammud ali there on a random tuesday night last summer.

i was told about this place and i have been twice! the first time was with a group of ladies and we sat outside. our waiter was a bit snobby and he got our food all mixed up and even forgot one of the ladies meals. the second time i went back was for drinks with friends and the service was very poor. i dint mind the prices but i do expect service that goes with it!!!

bland and blander - no thankyou!. bland except for the decorations. bland food followed by bland service in a great spot. i am baffled that people flock to this place to drink massively overpriced wine (which is served as poorly as any chain restaurant) and consume food that is so underseasoned the local hospitals approve the sodium content its that bland, and did i mention that in all its blandness is a 20-25% tip request (maybe thats to buy seasonings for the kitchen with) i feel sorry for myras mom as her chicken recipe is very bland too. i specialise in fish and chips and i would however mention that they are poor also and not worth ordering if you enjoy them too.

delicious, creative menu with a totally unexpected atmosphere, unfortunately killed by mediocre service and a tacky and insulting suggestion on the check present asking the customer to tip 20 - 25%. that part was unfortunate.
