i thought it was quaint and the service was prompt. the food was good, not as good as it is priced, but better than other "fancy" restaurants in abq. my ny strip was cooked to order, however for 60 dollars i would have preferred a less fatty meat, and the sauce i ordered was tasteless. the baked potato was large and tasty, the little veggie garnish of baby carrots and brussels spouts was a nice touch. the lemon cheesecake was delicious; the crime brûlée was not dense enough, espressos were lovely and served in gorgeous cups. i thought the atmosphere was fantastic; i love how dimmed the lights were. i enjoyed my evening with my husband and good friends. we were there for over two hours and very much enjoyed the piano players tunes. he was a wonderful pianist. one complaint that i do have is that in the woman's bathroom there was no toilet paper... we spent over $400 dollars on dinner, i think you can afford some toilet paper (2-ply would have been nice). overall, i would like to come again with hopes for even a better experience.

so we went to on a sunday evening, to see what all the fuss is about. as soon as we walked in there is this giant supposed mafia hitman? telling us what we can and can't do inside the restaurant. wtf! we get to our table and are approached by the waiter promptly, he was a little bland and seemed not happy to be waiting on us. maybe he had something better to do on a sunday afternoon. although he was pretty knowledgeable about the menu, and his service was ok. i had an 8 oz filet with a lobster tail, a baked potato and what seemed to be in somebody's mind a vegetable side, 1 baby carrot cut in half and 1 brussel sprout cut in half. i should have stuck with my gut and never ordered lobster in the middle of the desert (dry and flavorless) but with plenty of butter. the $50 filet, big flop there is nothing like buying a steak at kellers or a local carniceria and grilling it your dam self, ten times better. this steakhouse is one of the better steak joints in abq, but nothing compared to any steakhouse in la, ny, or vegas. i do not recommend this place unless you want to throw some money down the drain....peace burque.

food, atmosphere, service, this place has it all. we have been there several times and have never been disappointed. this is the perfect place for a romantic dinner and/or a special occasion. we went there for our 30th anniversary and a 50th birthday. we will keep going back.

i love this restaurant!. i went to vernon's hidden valley steakhouse with my husband and another couple this past valentine's day. the ambiance was very romantic. it was the perfect place to celebrate such a romantic day. i also love the speakeasy entrance/password. as far as the food....i ordered a steak from the piedmont region, and i have to say it was the best steak i have ever had. normally i am unable to finish a petite filet, but this steak was so delicious i managed to gobble down all ten ounces of this steak. for me it was well worth every penny. i highly recommend this restaurant.

vernon's is always an amazing experience!. this is the second year in a row that we have gone to vernon's to celebrate valentine's day and it was absolutely wonderful. i think that we have even had the same server both years, and she was outstanding, knowledgeable and attentive. it is one of our favorite places to celebrate a special occasion. the food is remarkable - their selection being both unique, exquisitely tasteful and gorgeous. the drinks were also delicious - i had an "aphrodite love" and it was a in-house concoction, rimmed with balsamic glaze and white chocolate shavings! who thinks of that?! it was awesome. the steaks are always cooked to perfection and the most tender in town. management is also one-of-a-kind: unobtrusive, yet friendly & professional, yet approachable.

special occasions. amazing experience! food was great and of high quality. our waiter, gabe, was very insightful and added to our early valentine's dinner enjoyment. we had the proscuitto wrapped scallops...awesome! i had the los ranchos star. ordered it medium, came out well done.gabe realized the mistake and had another steak prepared, delivered by the chef. thanks gabe! really flavorful steak.

the well done steak was also very good, i must admit.

my valentine had the filet mignon medium rare...good stuff! we shared a lobster tail...wow! we were stuffed but still had the lemon sorbet...refreshing and the perfect ending to a great experience.

the music from the bar was a pleasant surprise! we will be back!

first visit, extremely happy with experience. from beginning to end, the meal was wonderful. our waiter was very gracious and attentive, as were others when we asked for something or simply were low on drinks. both the appetizers we ordered were delicious (carpaccio and bruschetta) as were the caesar salad and cream of asparagus soup. the steaks themselves were cooked as we requested and wonderfully flavored. the accompanying starches (loaded mashed potatoes and white truffle mashed potatoes) were tasty too. the veggies were good, but not really exciting. my husband and i shared 4 cocktails between the two of us and found them really tasty as well; my favorite in particular was the dillinger. we were celebrating my birthday and i received a complimentary tiramisu, which i really liked.

we've been to vernon's before and had such a good experience we chose to bring 3 out of town visitors for a birthday celebration. unfortunately our experience on saturday night janurary 18, did not meet our expectation. they were out of most of the tap beers that one of my guests asked for, we finally setteled on a beer and were informed that they were tapping a new keg, waiter forgot to bring me my beer until the end of the nightonly when i asked him again. ordered the loaded baked potatoe and got the loaded mashed potatoe, steaks were average at best, service was terrible, could have had a much better dinner at outback for 1/4 of the amount that we spent at vernon's. save your money don't go to vernon's.

disappointed........... friday was our first experience at vernon's.......maybe our last.
the entrace is fun....password and the run down of the place. atmosphere is like a warehouse; black walls in the bar area and not very inviting.
table for two was decent and quiet, big plus.
food and service: server was very attentive initially, but seemed overwhelmed; believe he was new to the restaurant. thumbs up for effort. food was disappointing. i had the bone-in ribeye (something star) and it was cooked nicely, but no where near worth $68. quality of the steak was not very impressive. the wasabi mashed potatoes were luke warm and you can tell they were plain mashed with a drop of wasabi added. vegtables were completely forgettable; literally i cannot even remember what they were.
overall will be difficult to return at these prices. nice place, but be prepared for high prices and average quality.

very disappointing restaurant. a terrible restaurant experience! ran out of fillets -- what a steakhouse running out of fillets? at 7:00 pm.
food mediocre or worse. vegetables served were cold. orders were mixed up. one plate that ordered baked potato got mashed. another plate that ordered mashed got both mashed and baked. meat was overcooked.
wine sommelier was arrogant and pretentious. ordered a $68 bottle of wine and he said he would be back with glasses and decant, however due to someone else buying a bottle of opus his attention was not on our lowly $68 wine. really wanted wine with entree, but had to ask and ask to get our wine order -- sommelier was busy at another table -- guess which table. was charged a 20% gratuity on the wine that was a separate order from the dinner.
dessert was served to the person whose b-day was being celebrated before they asked any one else their dessert selection. oh they were out of vanilla ice cream holy cow!
bottom line -- don't waste your time and money.

first visit outstanding, second so so, third questionable, forth, i shall never return. i'm not sure if there have been chef/management changes but this place has progressively gotten worse, both in service and quality. save your $200, per couple, and dine elsewhere.
