urban bar and brasserie

we had a very impressive dinner at urban bar recently with friends, the ability to book via opentable is a very big plus, all restaurants should work with this company. we sat indoors as it was chilly, but there is an outdoor seating area that must be beautiful over summer time. our waitress was very attentive and helpful, the food was very good, its a seasonal menu that changes all the time.

quality. tonight was amazing. from start to finish we were attended for every need. i had the soup to start, which was oozing with flavour and aromatics!! main course just as good. staff attentive, not intrusive. i'll be back!

i could have easily eaten more of everything, especially the macaroni and pate and all the desserts, if i wasn't so full!

nik and i actually popped in the following week for a drink in the cosy snug room when we were out celebrating him passing his exam. i enjoyed another tasty cosmopolitan and he sampled on of their beers.

i hate to say this but we were disappointed. the food is still wonderful. the problem was the portion size. we had, for our main boar and apple sausages with a buttery mash and an onion gravy. quality was first class, quantity was non existent. we looked at one another when the plates were brought out. not impressed. come on urban. please have a think about portions. it's the 1st time i've left urban and could genuinely have went for a burger somewhere as i was really hungry.

i've reviewed this place before but, after tonights meal have to do so again. brilliant. it was one of the nicest meals i have ever had, even the coffee was really nice. the food is beautiful, the wine lovely (and i don't drink wine) and the service attentive without being intrusive. beautiful surroundings with food to match. well done urban

urban bar & brasserie is inside a beautiful building – the interior is not really anything special but the exterior is architecturally pleasing to the eye (says someone who knows nothing about architecture and can only give comments along the lines of “that’s very pretty” or “that’s a bit ugly”!). the style of dining is somewhere between casual and fine.  what i found quite amusing was that the servers were what you would expect from a fine dining restaurant (crisp white shirts, immaculate long white aprons, good posture) but their mannerisms didn’t quite match that.  don’t get me wrong, in no way were they rude or unfriendly – just  very rough and ready!  one server sounded kinda gruff (but not unpleasant) and wouldn’t ha

given it’s look and location, it was easy to see how those unfamiliar with the city could pass by and be drawn in by it’s cool, attractive exterior. that particular area of glasgow’s city centre is not one that is known for great burgers; however, we were looking to try something a little different and decided to stop by and take advantage of a three course lunch menu – once we had checked that there was a burger on offer, obviously!

we had the bar food menu at lunchtime. could not fault the food, good choice, reasonable prices and quick service. very good !

food was okay, but the experience was pretty poor overall.. there were 10 of us, so we were told that we were a 'large party' and had to pick a fixed price menu in advance. the fixed price came to £5-£10 more than if we'd paid for what we'd eaten at the regular menu prices, and we had significantly less choice.

we were seated right next to a (very loud) piano that made it difficult to carry out conversation whilst we dined.

the service was pretty slow (one of our party had to leave to get his train home before they'd taken the desert orders - and still had to pay for the dessert/coffee he couldn't have!). there was a good 5 minutes between the first of our main courses arriving and the last two turning up.

when the bill turned up we eventually realised we'd been over charged by around a further £30 as we'd been charged separately for tea/coffees that were included in the fixed menu price.

excellent food, service impeccable.. i have been there on two occasions, once for my birthday and once for another's.

both occasions have been excellent. the food was beautiful, the wine was perfect with the meal and the staff were extremely polite and deserving of good tips.

also, you should check out the bar if you're waiting to be seated or just in general. the cocktails are good!
