upstream brewing company- old market

had two unique thin crust pizzas that my wife and i both liked. the beer selection was also pretty damned good. had the double ipa and regular ipa and liked both. the problem was the service! our waiter was pleasant but when you have to wait three hours for dinner with two young kids it's beyond frustrating. we wanted to try some of the yummy-looking desserts but by thetimedinner was over we just wanted it all to end.

upstream has gone downstream. i recently ate lunch at the downtown upstream location and have to say their food and service has really become poor. the last two times we have gone their the service has been extremely poor and the food quality is even worse. i remember the days where the servers would greet you with a smile and provide you with top notch service. what i have seen lately is what seems to be a disheveled group of servers wandering around looking confused and not sure what to do. responsetimefor them to greet you when you sit down is terribly slow. then there is no excitement when you are greeted. just seems like they greet you because they have to and not because they want to. i think these people forget they are their to provide customer service. let's not forget without customers to wait on they would have jobs. it's like they expect to be tipped well despite providing sub-par service. the food quality has gone down was well. i ordered a hamburger and it was burnt to a crisp. it actually looked like hockey puck. food can be bad any place at any given time, that's not the true issue here. i can overlook having a burger a little over cooked but the service is the real issue here. if you don't want to be there and wait on customers then don't. servers must remember you are not entitled to a tip. you have to earn it! don't think just because you come to my table, take my order, and bring out my food that is good service. keep the glasses full, check on your tables, and be friendly. just because you work at the upstream doesn't mean you can substitute that for good customer service. there are plenty of other restaurants out there with better food, prices and service. i hope you can get your act together because upstream used to be a place i enjoyed going to on a regular basis.

i’ve been here several times, but this lasttimewas not so good. there was a hair in the pretzel cheese dipping sauce. the soup (4 of 5 of us ordered soup) was lukewarm at best - had to send it back. service was slow.

enjoyable. we have been enjoying the upstream brewing company for a couple of years now. we love their calamari appetizer. the beers are awesome and so are the martinis. service is attentive and professional. we have never had a bad meal.
we used to host our conference icebreakers here, but the lasttimewe made reservations, we were told they could no longer accommodate individual checks. the last thing a host of a large party wants to do is referee who pays for what at the end of dinner; too stressful and makes it hard to enjoy the meal. most of the conferees were disappointed we took our icebreaker to a different venue. they love this place. we still like going here on our own.

stale waters.... upstream used to be the "it" place - and i loved it. but now it's always the same thing, and honestly the menu hasn't changed much over the years. i go there rarely any more because i just don't find anything exciting about it. i think the best things on their menu are the soups - the tomato-basil and chicken-curry-rice are awesome! burgers - boring. salmon - boring. raspberry chicken - 1980's. the pot roast is divine, but i can't get that everytime i go there.timefor a freshening up of upstream. the water is getting stale.

took forever. waited a longtimefor to be seated(had to tell the host that we wanted to be seated), for our server, for our food, and didn't even get a checkback to let the waiter know that it was our food was cold and the veggies were way to hard. i got the pot roast and potatoes. haven't been to the upstream in 3 years and will probably not be back.

i live in the old market, so i get out to many of the taverns, pubs, and restaurants on a regular basis. for this review, i am leaving the food out entirely, however. upstream has one of the best beer happy hours in omaha and the old market. the pints are dropped in price to $2.00 to 2.50 (sometimes it depends on the bartender, i suppose); happy hour starts at 3:00pm and concludes at 6:00pm ( a very nice allotment oftimeto ease into your evening or weekend without feeling the rush of slamming down that last cheap beer that you might get at a happy hour that is only an hour or two in length). there is a regular crowd, though i would not call them barflies. wine is served on special, too, so the mix at the bar is very cosmopolitan without getting too trendy. i cannot stress enough: sit at the bar! table service is hit or miss, dependent upon the server, but the bar service is almost always prompt, friendly, and delightfully chatty should you wish some conversation. there are food specials during happy hour, but in all honesty, go for the beer, stay for the company, then go have a meal somewhere else later in the evening!

good beer...decent food...terrible service.. i have give the upstream a number of chances, and like drunken father it lets you downtimeandtimeagain. no matter how good of food or drinks a place has, it always come down to the service. being ignored by the hostess, waitress and bartender are not good things...especially when it is not terribly busy. the food is ok...not great, but ok. individual pizzas are enjoyable but not memorable. do yourself a favor and avoid the frustration. order a growler of their home brewed beer to go after you eat your dinner somewhere else.

smoked gouda & beer soup - a must!. i've been to this restaurant 3 times now on business trips, and now make sure to always have thetimeto eat here whenever i'm in town. all of the food i've had here is amazing, and their beers are quite good as well. and you've got to try to the smoked gouda & beer soup, it was out of this world!

great food. my wife, daughter and i had dinner there on monday. one of the best jambalaya i had in a longtimeanywhere. my daughter had the fish and chips, her opinion was, they were so-so. my wife had the raspberry chicken, again very good but not exceptional. hot artichoke dip starter was very good. i would say an overall good dining experience for us. will return someday.

good place to eat. decently priced. the scottish ale is very good. firsttimeeating here and i like it. service was good and not pushy.

smoked gouda soup and thai chicken salad!. one or both of the above (the salad *without* the mandarin oranges that it normally comes with) is what i order everytimei come here.

they are fabulous. yes, i may be boring to order one of these same two things every time. but over the years, i have tried samples of my dining companions' meals. upstream's other offerings are usually good, but the above two are just outstanding to me. i am normally the type to be more adventurous and try a wider variety, but this soup and this salad have me hooked.

contrary to other reviewers here, i've never had a service problem at upstream. sometimes they are busier than others, and consequently service can be a bit slower, but i have never had bad service or even egregiously slow service.

their patio is also really nice in season.

no expense account?... no service.... i have really been disappointed with pretty much everytimei have been to upstream in the old market. the food is good, the beer is better, however the service is horrible, consistently horrible.

when i have headed over after work for a quick drink at the bar, i am always greeted with lack luster service. my only guess is that i do not look like i am on an expense account; the other guests at the bar seem to always have a full drink but not me.

guess what? it shouldn't matter, but i am on an expense account, but it's too late upstream, i will never go back...

i've eaten the pot roast a lot and the lasttimeit was terrible. very dry and it was in slices??? pot roast falls apart! it's the firsttimefor a bad pot roast. oh yeah, deep six those fricken frozen vegetable medleys and go with corn or green beans.
