checked this place with a mate. the interior is good especially up the back, looks like they have a great selection of drinks (bar). the coffee was great and the poached eggs i had was made to perfection-not over cooked! so far great experience and lovely staff.

i absolutely loved my experience at turning point. the staff are friendly and nice, the environment is a trendy and cool. the food is great and there are lots of quirky options and something a little bit different , so there is something for everyone. the portion and price is reasonable.

[update]

we visited again for brunch! this restaurant it fairly spacious and great for large and small groups. located conveniently behind ripponlea train station.

we had their new ramen item on the menu. soba noodles in a mushroom based sauced with fried tofu. it is the perfect dish for the colder days.

we also had their classic eggs benny on potato rosti which was a treat. the potato rosti was a perfect combination with the beef brisket.

finally their new winter waffles with extra chocolate sauces is one to share. topped with berries and cream.

yes! turning point not only has brunch, it also serves dinner from thursday - sunday.

we were invited to visit for dinner on a warm saturday night.

drink: aperol ritz ! aperol spritz with sparkling rośe

starters: chimichurri crumbed chicken wings & white bait fritters.
both were delicious and a perfect start to the night. they weren't too oily as they were deep fried items and the sauces complemented the dishes well.

main: herb crumbed baked rockling in an open clam sauce & beef ribs
both dishes were served with grilled bread to dip in the delicious sauces. my personal favourite was the beef ribs. the meat fell off the bone and was super tender inside. the rockling was also delicious and the creamy brocollini sauce was perfect.

dessert: monster bowl !!
a great way to complete the night with the monster bowl! triple soaked milk cake drizzled with condensed milk, evaporated milk and topped with whipped cream and coconut ice cream. don't be afraid as it isn't was sweet as it sounds.

come for brunch and stay for

i came here with a friend for breakfast. we started off with the raspberry and banana 'nice cream' with cubed watermelon. i was pleasantly suprised with the presentation and taste. i am partial to watermelon and a healthy ice cream for breakfast was too appealing not to miss.

the truffle scrambled eggs with trout, caviar and herbed creme friache served on a brioche slice was particularly good. well presented, eggs cooked to perfection, filling.

the vegan/gluten free cocoa pops was my least favorite dish but can appreciate the need for a breakfast that isn't too sweet. i needed more flavour and texture, i wouldn't have this again. choose the nice cream for a vg / gf sweet brekkie over this.

coffee was good and came very quickly. it was busy on a sunday morning but the staff weren't feeling the pressure.

aesthetically, i love the black and white colour scheme with finished wood throughout. the fingerprint ridges of the logo translate to the wood framing inside. clean but not clinical.

a great addition to ripponlea.

disclaimer: invite.

pretty new to the scene, turning pint is definitely one to add to your list. from the moment we walked in, the service was fantastic and when the food arrived, we were blown away. some of the best eggs i’ve had, with delicious trout folded through, and a super creative take on the classic coco pops, both which obviously looked and tasted amazing. the coffee was great and their healthy juices were fantastic too. also a big fan of them using reusable straws! can’t wait to go back and try a boozy lunch as their cocktails look great!

really love this new cafe which use to be hawk and hunter. love how they incorporated design elements of their sister cafes such as the famous " meet me here' from collective espresso. i had the peaches and cream , the truffle scramble and turning point - big brekkie which were all great in flavour

we visited turning point, in ripponlea, yesterday for a late lunch. the venue is located right next to ripponlea station and there is 2hr parking available across the road. the shop front is absolutely massive and is very spacious inside, sporting the scandinavian wood feel with an awesome neon sign as a feature wall. turning point are a re-brand of hawk & hunter and had their grand opening in feb, so they're still quite new.

we ordered a coffee & a strawberry milkshake to start, both of which were delicious. the milkshake wasn't as "pretty" as other milkshakes in melbourne, but the flavour was strong & tasty. the coffee tasted great.

their instagram page is full of their smashed avo, peaches & cream and eggs benny menu items, so we decided to try something less insta-famous. we ordered 3 dishes to share - the flank steak ($23), the southern fried chicken burger ($20) & the promising nice cream with watermelon ($17.50).

the flank steak has a really nice marinade and the onion rings were cooked really well, with a subtle oniony flavour. the chunky fries were a nice touch, as was the fried egg on top. this dish was refreshing because it is not a modern lunch menu item, but a modern twist of a classic meal. the choice of flank steak meant that it was a nice cut of meat, charged at a reasonable price.

the southern fried chicken burger came served with melted cheese and coleslaw on a brioche bun and came with a side of chunky fries and aoili. delicious flavours in the chicken coating, but i prefer my burger buns slightly toasted. the aioli was a nice addition too.

the nice cream with watermelon was definitely the prettiest dish! it came with cubes of traditional and yellow watermelon on the base, a huge scoop of banana/berry nice cream on top and decorated with dehydrated pineapple and orange. this was a beautiful dish to finish with as the flavours were nice and subtle and the nice cream made everything nice and cold.

turning point in ripponlea is definitely doing a great job at re-branding themselves. the customer service, while we were there, was attentive and positive. they welcomed any feedback we had and made sure that we were well looked after. i hope that they continue to grow and develop as people continue to give this new cafe a go.

thanks for having us, guys :)

i do like this place but there’s a few little things that i think could be improved, the service could be a bit more attentive. i’ve eaten here once but gotten take always a few times as it’s local but twice i’ve ordered a large latte take away and been in a rush and only realised after i’ve gone out that i’ve been given a regular size. also a couple of times that coffee hasn’t been amazing, i’ve had consistently better coffees around the corner from spout. i’ve also experienced really long wait times for takeaways when i’ve been one of only a few people inside. i hope they can continue to improve and build up the business. it’s nice to have more local options in ripponlea.

we went to the launch party of turning point which was amazing and really set our expectations high for a great place with creative but delicious food. however, we went back today to try their actual menu and it was totally underwhelming . despite awesome and creative sounding menu items, all the food was super bland and incredibly over priced! 18.5$ for a sushi sandwich which was the equivalent of a 2$ handroll and no flavour (nor fish or filling to justify the price) and a super bland salad left us super disappointed! we really hope they lift their game as it has great potential and a beautiful fit out!

what an absolute disaster a bogan fit out a silly pretentious menu and not a customer in sight
walked into an empty barren room with staff so cool but forgetting the customer comes first
my prediction is that it will never get to hawk and hunter standards when 100 people would wait to get a table
here u will never wait as it dont work so ill conceived
