turning point cafe is conveniently located across the road from the ripponlea train station. it is a modern cafe that not only serves delicious coffee, breakfast and lunch but unlike most cafe’s also serves dinner..
today we came for breakfast and we were most excited to try the new menu.
we ordered the warm pumpkin salad, the bircher muesli dish called‘the point of no return’ and also the poke bowl.
the food was absolutely and insanely delicious. the pumpkin salad was so appetizing - it came with a plentiful serving of pumpkin and the flavours on the plate went so well together. the poke bowl was really outstanding, especially due to the salmon being nice and spicy, which gave the dish a bit more of a kick and it all looked so elegant on the plate! the muesli dish - ‘point of no return’ was the standout due to the theatrics of the ‘smoke show’ – what fun and so creative! the mango sorbet was delightful and added a special freshness to the whole dish.
we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at turning point and highly recommend you check it out. this is one point i’ll definitely be turning back for!!

the good
salmon scrambled eggs with roe and some creamy green sauce. soooo good. it’s no longer on the menu plsss bring it back ;(((
got seaweed tempura as a side. pretty innovative.

the mediocre
french toast was really cute in its presentation with adorable little cones but taste wise a bit dry

the bad
benedict was disappointing. the black cubes if rosti tastes if herbs which i don’t like. the pulled beef and spinach was meh, and the miserly amount of hollandaise sprinkled on top was really unsatisfying.

*** updated review ***
after speaking to turning point over email i decided to give them another go. i went on sunday morning and ordered beef burger without bun and my friend had smash avo. smash avo was alright. again i was disappointed because after 10 min waitress came to me we can’t do burger without bun i think it’s very hard for the kitchen to make burger without bun. beef patty looks like precooked heat in microwave it’s too thin according to price of burger
this is my final visit.

3*for coffee and service

we had brunch here this morning. i ordered the benny and my friend had the smashed avo we also had 2 coffees. i was disappointed with the taste of the beef brisket, actually it had no taste! the hollandaise was too vinegary

turning point is a very popular place. it has a groovy new fitout. but it’s stark concrete and wood needs some sound baffling. it’s very, very noisy in here. the staff are fantastic, as is the coffee. we really liked the black cutlery - great touch. twosheds and brunching companion ordered kale and zucchini fritters, with a side of chorizo, and scrambled eggs with bacon. the fritters were a tour de force, if a touch under seasoned before twosheds took to them with the gourmet salt. supremely light and fluffy, they were topped with fried kale and an exquisite purple yoghurt sauce. accompanying chorizo was beautiful. companion’s scrambled eggs were beautiful too, but the bread came without butter - a bit annoying. bloody mary was super strong. suggestion for the noise issue is felt tips on chair legs to reduce scraping on the concrete.

recommended. 3.9

something suggests ripponlea is about to become a new cult weekend destination; mocha jo's, miss ruben's, garage wine store and ripponlea food & wine are all doing excellent things to elevate this tranquil and traditional inner melbourne  suburb. add turning point into the mix and you really have something worth hopping on the train for.

putting the theatre into breakfast, turning point is a bright new thing, taking classics and playfully presenting and modernising plates.

the smoked salmon rillette was a fresh and zesty nod to the area. kale and zucchini fritters were vegetable packed and the spiced yoghurt they were served with was fantastically flavoured.

the "point of no return" is the must order, tour de force, centre-piece that's going to have the queues forming on sunny sundays. but this dish is far from just smoke (liquid nitrogen) and mirrors, layers of sharp raspberry compote, glorious mango sorbet and creamy apple oats compliment the house-made granola.

the space really is gorgeous, light, airy and filled with soft wood, plants and a handy neon or three. the courtyard is a great bonus and this place truly is set to turn up the calibre of the melbourne brunch scene, i'll be eagerly watching what they do next.

one of my local places i simply keep coming back my favourite dish the french toast isn't on the menu anymore. i don't know why as it was so popular. anyway i decided to try the ricotta hotcakes which ha little jelly bursts adding that great freshness. the interior and staff are sure to make you feel welcome.

turning point is located opposite ripponlea station just off glen eira road. it’s a lovely big space with windows down one side & i love the interior. plenty of plants & greenery & a gorgeous big wooden table perfect for functions & events.

i’ve visited turning point for brunch many times & love the menu as it changes regularly so there are always new & exciting dishes to try.

their smoothies are delicious & i also tried the beatrice, beetroot, celery, carrot, apple & lemon juice which was so refreshing.

the eggs benny is served on huge potato rostis which are insanely delicious & the beef brisket is so tender & tasty.

the three point turn is an epic big breakfast, served with all the usual suspects including eggs, bacon, mushrooms, spinach, house made beans, potato rosti & toasted tomato. you need to be hungry to order this dish but the flavours will have you ordering it again.

the french toast is such a fun dish, decorated with fruit, honey joys, lemon curd, mini cones, fairy floss & coconut ice cream. the coconut ice cream is divine & helps cut through the sweetness of the dish & i really love the spiced brioche used in the french toast.

the staff at turning point do an amazing job looking after their customers, an impressive effort for a very busy cafe. i’ve had so many positive experiences at turning point, the food was been consistently good & the coffee is fantastic. this keeps me & plenty of others coming back for more. thanks so much for having me.

came here for sunday lunch and suprising wasnt too busy. we noticed the place is open for functions and larger group bookings as well.

the menu had a good range of options. the coffee was also alright.

we ordered the truffle and dill scramble and the southern fried chicken burger.
the scramble was just basic scrambled eggs and so all the flavour was in the oil drizzled around the plate and the fried capers. therefore the scramble itself was kinda bland and under seasoned but when you eat it with the capers and the pickled fennel, it is much better. however, i do think it would have been better of the scramble was a bit more flavourful or just even better seasoned.

the burger was much better. the chicken was very crispy but moist and the mayo slaw was well seasoned as well. the chips were also very good. we enjoyed the burger but after we started to get full, we did feel like the mayo was getting little too much for us. otherwise we quite enjoyed the burger!

we were very thankful to the waitress who served as she was very patient and friendly as we took way too much time to pick our meal.

overall it was an okay brunch experience. will we be back? maybe when a new menu is launched but not anytime soon.

came here yesterday for the first time. fathers day, crazy day to try and go to a popular cafe, i know!!
we were very happy with our experience. really good service, friendly and very attentive staff. really good and flavoursome food, we had a salmon dish with loads of herbs and cherry tomatoes on rocket and toast, delicious! a really good bagel with mushrooms and a yummy eggs benny.
we will most certainly return and maybe we should check out their sister cafe soon.
the coffee was on point too, can't leave that out!
