for my main dish, i chose the icelandic cod served with sorghum and quinoa, asparagus, and drizzled with a lemony sunchoke milk studded with grapefruit segments. the fish was cooked perfectly, the quinoa was filling, and the asparagus and grapefruit added bright bites to the dish.

horrible food, horrible service, industrial staples in food, management still didn't care. my family went here to celebrate mother's day plus two birthdays in the family. we were seated in the new dining room and given the mother's day menu. we ordered our meals and waiting close to 1 hour for the appetizers to be brought out. my wife ordered the fried oysters and on her second bite, had scraped her gums on an industrial size staple in her food. the waiter apologized and the owner came out with a new plate of food. the owner stated clearly "everything will be taken care of and i apologize for the inconvenience." we ate our tiny appetizers and were ready for the main course. we waited 2 hours to get our main course. tables around us were trend over 2-3 times, no one ever came to fill our glasses with water, and our waiter reassured us that our food was coming. i could've slaughtered a cow, built a grille, and made my own steak in this time.

our entrees arrived and they were cold and tiny. other members of my family didn't get their plate until reminding our waiter three times what they had ordered. their food came out 20 minutes later and again it was small, cold, and mediocre at best.

finally it was time for dessert. everyone was starving after sitting in this place for 3+ hours and the dessert again was small and unremarkable. now time for the check. no concessions were made. $659. the owner came to the table and offered us free truffles and nothing further. we insisted that this was a horrible experience so he gave us a napkin to wrap the truffles and take them home.

this was a horrible experience. the waiters and owner were rude. the food expensive, cold, and tiny. i will not be visiting this place ever again. there are better restaurants with better views, food, pricing, and service than this place.

do not go here. save your time and money

trummer’s on main was once an inn bursting at the seams with visitors every weekend. today it no longer is an inn, but the restaurant still encapsulates the relaxed atmosphere and feel of a getaway from real life. with the largest wine cellar in the mid-atlantic region and food that rivals top restaurants around the world, trummer’s is a can’t miss! the best part is the kitchen is one of the friendliest to the gluten-free population i’ve found. every time i’ve gone i’ve been completely spoiled. my husband and i were in last week for restaurant week and not only did i enjoy my own entire basket of delicious gluten-free bread for myself, they also whipped me up my own molten chocolate lava cake for dessert. both were amazing and prepared to perfection. i was also able to enjoy a cappuccino lobster bisque and horseradish crusted salmon off the regular menu. the server informed me that the chef naturally prepares things gluten-free when the opportunity presents itself. my husband and i both walked out feeling stuffed and extremely satisfied. we can’t wait for our next visit. -jpm

not as good as they think they are. wednesday night octoberfest dinner using a groupon.
very difficult time making a reservation. trummer's phone system blocks all phone calls that do not show the caller's phone number and caller id. the hostess on the phone was annoyingly condescending. when we arrived, she was even more annoying in person.
trummers is recently renovated; with a squeeky clean modernistic decor. you enter into the bar and then are shuffled into one of two dining areas.
fortunately the dining room staff was everything the hostess wasn't; friendly, helpful and welcoming.
the octoberfest menu was limited and pricey. and the menu wasn't very accurate describing the entrees. what they described as goulash with spaetzel wasn't like any goulash i ever saw before. goulash is a soup. it is not a piece of braised beef. goulash has paprika as a primary ingredient. this meal didn't come within 10 yards of any paprika. the wiener and jaeger schnitzels were ok but the jager was served lukewarm. on the good news side, the hot potato salad side dish was very good.
the beer selection was limited to bottles. the dunkel was a hefeweizen that was sweet but not a true dunkel.
lastly, the prices were much higher than i would expect for the meals offered.
not the worst but far from the best. there are infinitely better restaurants offering euro-menus in the area. but i had the feeling the annoying and pretentious hostess was a true reflection of trummers...a restaurant that isn't nearly as good as they think they are.

as a celiac, eating out can be a nightmare but trummer's was wonderful. had my own gluten free menu, attentive waiters who understood my plight and the most delicious food. ambience in the upstairs room was excellent. thank you!

we love trummer's. we recently dined at trummer's on main and had a fantastic experience. we had signature cocktails at the beautiful bar before dinner. they were delicious. the dining room is gorgeous and the food was perfect. we had a great dinner with friends and are sure to return soon!

and don't worry, you won't have to ask congress to raise your debt limit, trummers is reasonably priced (particularly on the aforementioned tuesdays) and even offers an expansive brunch menu on sundays for those of you who like a little repast following the weekly matins. trummer's comes with our highest recommendation and it is an experience you will definitely enjoy.

this was restaurant week so there were 3 choices per course. we tried the shrimp and grits, the waldorf salad, pork, chicken, cheese plate and hazelnut tart. all were very good. we found that they offer a 3 course menu on sunday evenings for $38. i will definitely go back. we had a lovely meal, good date night.

we have been meaning to go to trummer's for what seems like ages now. we first came across the restaurant back in 2009 when they were sampling their outrageously delicious "chocolate soup" at the best of washingtonian party. it was always on our list, but its location wasn't always ideal. given that we live in bethesda, we could never muster enough motivation to make the trek. fortunately, that all changed on saturday. because we were going to the inn at little washington the following evening, we wanted to keep our expenses limited and decided to have dinner in the downstairs lounge. they recently started offerin

this past weekend, my husband and i took a sunday evening drive to trummer's on main in clifton, virginia. clifton is a bit of a shlep. it is incomprehensible to me that there can be so much traffic on route 66 at 5:30 on a sunday night.

after sipping on some highland park scotch, we continued around the gala. i continued to ask the chefs, "how did you react when you found out you won the rising star award?" we got some great responses below: chris ford , trummer's on main (virginia), is

disappointment. small portions, flavorless sea bass, fifteen minute wait for lukewarm espresso, desserts served twenty minutes after the coffee, cigar smoke from outside wafting in the open windows, a myriad of servers who had no idea who ordered what, resulting in musical plates, unfriendly staff, loud guests at the next table, silverware dropped twice. we were told that there was a problem with the water system - i'll say - they served us cloudy liquid, with a bad smell and taste, that may have been from a nearby creek - undrinkable, probably need an antibiotic. the best parts: the drink at the bar prior to dinner was served by a pleasant bartender; the bread server was very attentive; and the wine steward was knowledgeable. we've had better food and experiences at chain restaurants. never again!
