the food and wait staff were very good. my only concern is why is there a "one" dollar sign under pricing. i expected to pay a reasonable amount but was surprised when i saw the pricing. either way the food was great. i'd give it a higher rating if they were more accurate with their pricing on here.

a class act!!. we had our 59th wedding anniversary dinner at the tournedos on june 11th and we were very happy we did. each year we visit a new restaurant on our wedding anniversary. this year we were so glad to spend it there. the steaks were superbe, the wine cold and refreshing and the service perfect.we heartily recommend it and will surely be back.thanks- p and c

i would go back.... the overall ambience and experience of being at tournedos steakhouse is the reason i will return. the steaks were delicious/perfectly cooked and the sides were perfectly portioned. we ordered the seafood bisque and spinach salad to start and while both were delicious, the bisque was enormous (literally, a meal itself) and probably could have been shared. unfortunately, we had to take some of our steak home because we were too full, but that is never a problem in our house :) the fires, lighting, and old-school charm of the inn made for a perfect date night. the restaurant wasn't crowded and the noise level was decent. the only real complaint we had was with service. our main waiter was average, but the staff supplying the water/bread etc. were down-right rude. the woman literally slammed our bread basket on the table to the point where it almost knocked over our wine glasses, without saying a word or bringing the oil/butter (we had to ask after waiting 10 minutes). she never mentioned that it would cost an additional $5.00 for sparkling water and huffed and puffed throughout the entire meal. other than that, my husband and i will definitely be back. we may just avoid that particular server or ask that she not serve us the next time.

that's what is call a complete restaurant, specially for rochester ny.
best service all over attentive , amazing food,... it's pricey but definitively worth it if you are into fine dining or having good quality of food.

best in rochester! my husband and i were married at the inn seven years ago and we continue to return for the amazing food and ambiance. from the free valet parking, to the warm inviting bar area with fireplace you cannot go wrong. then add the amazing food and it's over the top. everytime we want an amazing dinner this is our first choice. sides are enough to share. service is excellent. highly recommend!! even better if you get a room and stay overnight. perfect date night!!

in response to feb 1 review. we go to tournedos about 4 times a year for the last 10 years, and we have never ever had a bad meal, so i feel extremely confident in saying this restaurant is not a rip off. we travel and fine dine in nyc, chicago, dc etc, and i would stack this restaurant up against anywhere else we have ever eaten.

that said .... if your waitress was the blondish, older middle aged lady ... i think she colored your experience. we have always been disappointed the few times she has been our server. every other server is exceptional, and i'm truly sorry that your first experience at one of the finest dining restaurants in the country started that way :(

very disappointing. our waitress jess did not seem like she was having a good day ; she was unpleasant and unfriendly also uninformed about where port wine is made, she stated port wine was from france, this individual is serving in a fine dinning place!! i ordered the $52.00 ribeye steak on the bone, it was tasteless and very dry, the potato gratin was very watery. one would expect much more than a very bland lonely miserable piece of a salmon laying on a white plate especially when it costs $ 32 !!!!!!!. .....for a fine dining restaurant the food presentation was very poor. if you think about having a nice espresso after your meal ....think again they charge you $4 for a regular coffee they call espresso !!!!!!!yeah so much for fine dining. i won't recommend this place it is a total ripp off : over priced and the quality of the food sucks !!!!!!!!!!!

perfect for the occasion. my wife chose tournedos recently for her birthday dinner. our daughter and her husband joined us. with their valet parking, it is very easy getting in and out of tournedos with your car. the valets are friendly and very efficient. a pre-dinner cocktail at the bar/lounge was a very nice prologue to our dinner. it is a great place to stop for cocktails that are always professionally prepared and served by bar staff invariably welcoming and attentive.

we had a terrific booth, in a dining room that is perfect for comfort and quiet conversation. our servers took great care of us. appropriately attentive to our wishes. three of us ordered steaks, and the two vegetables, including potatoes, were just the right size for the four of us. the two salads were very nicely divided so that the twosomes could share. a classy touch! the steaks were cooked to perfection, and were very flavorful. i did not feel that my pork chops were up to the standard i expected, but they were tasty.

i was impressed by the wine-by-the-glass choices. my wife and i have difference preferences on the red-white scale, and each of us were very pleased with our choices for this evening.

beautifully presented desserts topped of a very enjoyable evening. the tab was pretty much as we would expect of a top level restaurant in rochester.

great food, great service!
beware of the bald waiter with the beard, he will convince you that he's the best waiter in the industry but he's actually a phony! if you get him 10% tip is too generous!!!

amazing!!!. we went to tournedos to celebrate my birthday in august. all i can say is that there is no other restaurant in rochester, or it's surrounding towns, etc., that can match the total package of atmosphere, service and food found at this restaurant. the atmosphere is calming, the service is professional and yet friendly, and the food is magnificent. my husband ordered smoked pork chops (i was thinking he was nuts to do so) and i ordered the filet mignon with bearnaise sauce. we split sides of sweet potatoes and grilled asparagus. everything was delicious, and even though i thought my husband was nuts when he ordered smoked pork chops in a restaurant noted for steak/seafood, i must say that his smoked pork chops were fantastic...they melted in your mouth. my filet was cooked to perfection, and the sides were well done and more than enough for 2 people. i only wish i could celebrate my birthday at tournedos every week.....it;s that good'11

amazing!. in a word, wow! my girlfriend and i chose tournedos for a special, romantic christmas celebration, and we both had unquestionably the best meal of our lives so far.

the meal starts out with freshly baked, hot, crusty bread, served with whipped butter and garlic infused dipping oil. we wanted to experience some different flavors, and so chose several appetizers (we did this in place of side dishes for the entrees) - cognac infused seafood bisque, bruschetta, and since we felt adventurous, escargot with bleu cheese and puff pastry. the bisque had generous chunks of shredded crab and lobster, with just the right amount of bite from the congac for flavor. our bruschetta was equally wonderful with fresh tomatos, garlic, and shredded parmesan over hot, toasted crostini. the escargot and puff pastry tasted nice, although the bleu cheese overpowered the rest of the flavors. otherwise, not bad for our first foray into snails. for wine, we chose a pinot grigio. this place has a well stocked wine cellar, and what they have is quality. the wine had a nice, light, fruity flavor.

for entrees, my girlfriend chose a tenderloin filet medium rare, and i had the single cut new york strip with crab legs. they dry age their beef on site, and it shows. the flavor was wonderful. the steaks were perfectly cooked, with a paper thin, crusty sear (without being burned) that literally crunches as ones chews. the charred flavor of the sear melds perfectly with the juicy interior and creates a wonderful texture contrast. the crab legs were juicy and flavorful.

the appetizers were great. the entrees were wonderful. however, the star of the show arrived for dessert. in the spirit of celebration, we ordered three separate desserts and shared each to sample. tournedos makes its own sorbet in house. the sorbet dish came with two flavors,
coconut and lemon. the lemon sorbet rested in a sweet/tart raspberry sauce, and the coconut had a banana flavor sauce. both were wonderful. we also had creme brulee (this is the closest thing the food world has to crack-cocaine for passionate lovers of sweets), and peppermint cheesecake. the creme brulee was perfect. the peppermint cheesecake (my personal favorite of the evening) came with a solid chocolate ganache over top, and crumbled candy cane, which provided a nice crunchy textural contrast to the soft cheesecake and ganache.

i would recommend tournedos to all passionate foodies
who appreciate perfect classically prepared steak and seafood. the food is simply amazing, and the decor is elegant and refined. be forewarned, this is not a cheap place. our bill came to $ 160 for four appetizers, two steaks, half a dozen crab legs, wine, and three desserts. however, it was worth every penny. it is not a place we can afford to do every week, or even every few months, but for once or twice a year to celebrate a special occasion, i can't think of a better place in rochester. we will definitely be back again.
