my wife and i had a couple of noteworthy restaurant visits during our quick trip to portland. the first comes from tilt, a small local chain featuring handcrafted food with an emphasis onburgersand sandwiches. we visited with some friends who highly recommended this for our first meal of the trip.

theburgerswere giant, filling, and loaded with toppings. the groundhog burger was great and i hope to go back and try a couple of the others. the regular sized fries is plenty for 2-3 and are absolutely fantastic- especially with the homemade ranch. the building is very dimly light and industrial looking. overall it was a great place to eat- just with a strange environment.

although the discounts during happy hour don't apply to much more than beverages, prices at tilt aren't overwhelming.burgersare sold on their own and range between $7 and $13, but sides are available in multiple sizes and you can "make it a meal" to save a couple of bucks. the house recipe sides--including beer battered onion rings, tilted fries with scratch made pork gravy and bacon, and four varieties of handcrafted tots--are definitely hard to pass up.

overall, i had a great visit. i admit the burger patty was not as juicy as i was hoping for, but i would like to try their freebird, which boasts a buttermilk dredged, golden fried chicken, and also their blue collar biscuits which are served all day. and, i only got to taste some of the fabulous cocktail menu… you may be coming here for blue collar homeyburgersand biscuits. but don’t leave without trying a cocktail.
