nice atmosphere; great service; sub-par food. when i was growing up, my parents took me to tijana taco regularly. i have fond memories of the place. it's been around for over 40 years, and customers are loyal.
i stopped in to tijuana last week with my mother and my 17-month-old, hoping to capture some of my nostalgia by introducing my daughter to her first tijuana taco taco. i ordered a hard shell beef taco and and soft chicken taco, as well as a chicken quesadilla for my daughter. thefoodwas soooooooo salty. i know that there is always higher salt content when eating out and i've come to expect it, but this was quite a bit more than their nation-wide competitors, taco time and taco del mar. i didn't let my daughter finish her quesadilla because it's just not healthy to allow that level of sodium into a toddler's diet.
it bothers me that they over-salt so much, because high levels of salt at restaurants are often an indication that the ingredients aren't of the highest quality. i don't think this is the case at tijuana - i believe that they select good ingredients for theirfood- but i just can't express to anyone reading this how much salt there was in the food.
don't drown perfectly good ingredients under oceans of salt. let thefoodspeak for itself.
