tick tock diner

bad service, mediocre food. we went here a few months ago and were let down. i do have to say that their nachos are out of this world, and i would go back for that alone, however the service was awful, the waitress took our drinks order then never came back, we had to flag here down to first get the drinks we had ordered, and then again to place our entree orders, someone else came out from the kitchen and gave us our food, and we never saw our waitress again for the hour we were there. if anyone here is thinking of getting the french dip, don't do it, it had the texture and flavor of a wet rag.

dissapointing. we were in the area and saw it on diners driveins and dives so we decided to check it out. the place was large and clean but the staff was not very good. they hardly paid attention and we had to ask 3 times to get some water. the food was mediocre. my chicken gyro was flavorless. the portion was large but the chicken tasted like it was boiled without any spices or even salt. his banana pancakes were pretty good but overall it was very disappointing. would not come back again especially since the staff didn't seem to care at all.

dined here many times, plenty of good food custom prepared to your wishes, fast polite service you can always depend on

hmm.... diners. new jersey is the land of endless diners. they are all very similar. i have gone here a bunch of times since i was a kid. it's certainly got some extremely loyal followers in the area but i never really got it. the food here was just nothing special at all. everything seems like it  just came out of a can or yesterday's leftovers microwaved to heat back up and serve to you. this seems to be the general diner ethos. the food is always under seasoned, the menu always has way too many items on it, dirty silverware and chipped plates and inconsistent service at best. a place to stop at if you want a quick breakfast or if you are coming home from a night of drinking maybe but just not for me.

slow service and foreign item in food. i've been here several times as a kid & brought my husband recently after he saw it on the food network. first, they were quite busy and the waitress was a mess. we never received water until we asked, twice she brought us another table's order and it took a very long time to receive our items. i asked for a salad without carrots because i am severely allergic. my salad came with carrots. i sent it back. she brought another and after a few bites i started to feel a reaction and saw there were a few carrot slivers in the salad. not a big deal to most, but important to me because even a tiny sliver causes a reaction. then, i notice a large 1"x2" piece of plastic bag mixed in my salad. needless to say, i sent it back. the rest of my food was decent, but my coffee mug had a sticky handle from who knows what & the pecan pie was the worst i've ever tasted. overall, it was average.

went for dinner. looks like waitress was new. ordered chicken parmesan and she forgot the pasta. then after i asked, she brought plain spaghetti... no sauce! it was dry! and they even skimped out on the tomato sauce on the chicken. service really went downhill since i last came here in december. was thinking of going for breakfast but not sure now....

blahh. the burger i had was ok i forgot the name, but i know it was double stacked though service wasn't all that great but it was w.e

although i was snap happy at tick tock, the only good things we ordered were the fried items. because, really, it's pretty hard to mess up fries and calamari. the roast beef was dry, the chicken was dry, and the burger was not only un-photogenic, it was also... dry. the waitress also poured us refills of hot tea, when our original order was coffee.

does the tick tock earn its reputation from its food? maybe not. the food, while very good, can be a bit hit or miss. the environment and the experience of going to the famous tick tock diner though is one that is always memorable and something all diner-goers should do.

the food was good. huge portions!!! the service was not that great but everything else made up for it. the plates are pricey. they changed the menu and raised the prices after they were featured on the food network. try the disco fries

very disappointing!

french onion soup. i'm not sure how one can screw this up, but it happened. it tasted like someone strained the minestrone soup, added sauteed onions, cookie cut a burnt piece of toast, topped it with cheese, and stuck it under the salamander.

usually come here at night, good jersey diner food. here this late-morning and the service is lousy as it gets. atleast the bus boy is working hard.

they were good, when they had all the dishes featured on the food network. after a recent visit it seems they have taken all of their best items off of the menu. the food isn't as good as it was.
