as many diners will likely expect, verve, like every other edgy below ground restaurant, has a rustic layout with exposed beams and walls, and a low ceiling. however, it's open floor plan and basement-esque construction mean that the restaurant is very prone to noise. service was prompt and polite and our table water was topped up three times which, as an avid water drinker, was a nice touch. our table ordered the blue cheese chicken risotto which appeared too runny for a risotto and, despite not being finished, left me feeling a bit ill. we also ordered pizzas which were adequate though unmemorable. the mushroom pizza was an exception that, despite our expectations and its boastful namesake, bore what appeared to be just a single heavily-sliced mushroom. this struck me as both odd and ironic given the pizza's theme and the relative price of mushrooms. although overall pleasing and worth a passing casual visit, verve is mostly unremarkable. for most patrons, it is likely doomed to becoming a faint memory able to stir up only the vaguest recollections of indifference.
