dear test kitchen,

you. blew. my. mind. and. my. testbuds. i can't remember much after the 7th glass of wine but i suppose that's why there is a group photo at the end. proof! i therefore award thee a 6 star - ******.

hubby and i were in cape town and visted someone who had a shop at the biscuit mill. it was lunch time and he recommended the test kitchen, we were able to get a table last minute (shows you how long ago that was)

the service was great and been a serious foodie i loved being able to watch the chef army bustling about doing their thing. the food was beautifully plated and deliceous, my only suggestion was that the pork was advertised with kimchi and their having had a korean chef i was uber excited, sadly though it wasn't kimchi but a square of apple kimchi flavoured.

after waiting 2 months for my reservation, i finally made it to the test kitchen. this is a tough one to rate. overall i would say it was a good experience. was it the best restaurant i've ever been to? no. was the food worth the price? ehhh...maybe. i still haven't made up my mind on that one. i opted for the 5 course menu with the wine pairing @ r770. i know i rave about myoga, but the restaurant offers an 8 course menu for 500 something....much better deal. personally i thought myoga was better too. but being as i am rating test kitchen, i will stick to that. =) food was good, wine was good --- my advice, only go if you can truly afford such a pricey meal. it's cool to say i've eaten at the best place in africa, but it's also cool to buy 2 meals for the price of one. ::cough cough:: myoga.

been waiting a while for this day. oh my goodness gracious! wow! how exquisitely awesome this evening was! first came the dark room, with the most mouth watering snacks and the best cocktail for me was the salty version. made with sour figs. i am still wishing i could buy a 2l bottle full it! then we moved 2 the light room, with equally awesome food. the portion sizes were just perfect, so i didn't feel sickly full like some other places i've been to. this place makes you appreciate food and it makes u want more and more. the service was impeccable too and i loved watching the chefs (eye candy in their own right) prepare the courses. the ambience was nice and relaxed in the dark room and then lively and exhilarating in the light room. overall the best experience i've ever had and i can fully understand why they are the best restaurant in sa. totally magical, memorable and mind blowing. will be back...

hard to separate from five hundred in jhb. food is pretty damn flawless and an amazing level of creativity and attention to detail. five hundred's service is notably more slick and attentive but that is a much smaller sitting. in fact five hundred also better from a dessert perspective. food is very rich especially when you are having 5 courses. all in all a good experience, and relaxed set up for fine dining.

absolutely delicious food and presentation with wonderful service.  a real treat!  my favourite part of this dining experience was being able to watch a row of chefs turning out their delectable dishes right in front of you.  we went for the 8 course wine pairing menu - each dish a surprise plate filled with amazing flavours.

the test kitchen is the best restaurant in south africa, it has no competition 👌🏽! food presentation is tops - from the dark room to the light!! the service is outstanding. meal pairing with wine or tea lovers with tea, is recommended.

let me start this off by saying that if i could give them 20/10 i would. i booked this as a treat for my partner on his birthday and wow just wow. the service was incredible, when we seated the waiter immediately asked what allergies we have, as someone who is deathly allergic to fish,this was a huge deal and it certainly set the tone for the rest of the meal. we opted for the 5 course tasting menu with the wine pairing- i can't fault it, the food was delicious and the wine was gorgeous with the meal. the waiters were knowledgeable and polite. treat yourself to this one. its worth it.

my hubby spoiled me too much for our monthavarsary while being in cape town! the best fine dining, best tasting food i have ever tasted! paired with wines and great service, i had the most amazing lunch with my romantic husband. definitely worth the money!

the test kitchen definitely does justice to all the hype around it. we had dinner here a week ago to celebrate a 21st and it truly was a special experience! the food is absolutely outstanding. such beautifully prepared dishes with subtle yet delicious flavours. every dish was balanced to perfection. you only getting small portions of each which is the perfect amount and you definitely are not left hungry by the end of all the courses!

my highlight of the test kitchen was the relaxed, casual atmosphere of the restaurant. the waitress was very friendly and it was fantastic to watch the chefs at work while we dined. they are serving some of the most sophisticated flavours yet you sit and just have a wonderfully relaxed evening.

if you manage to get a table - this is a very special restaurant that is a treat to visit!

nothing comes close to this culinary experience. tastes delicious and amazing - do include the wine pairing. it's worth it!
each taste is a gastronomic experience. chef luke is a creative genius. this is one of the best restaurants in the world. i will be back for more!

the test kitchen - defiantly lives up to its reputation. the food was delicious and perfectly presented. each meal is unique gourmet take on local south african cuisine.the atmosphere is laid back and inviting. i'm not sure i would call it the best meal i have ever had in sa but it was defiantly at the top of my list.

absolutely exceptional. i have been wanting to try the test kitchen for ages and i was not disappointed. everything from the food to the service was superb.

definitely worth the wait! yes, going go the test kitchen requires booking long in advance, but once you experience their exquisite cuisine, you would understand why!

beautifully plated bursts of flavour, in the form of a 7 course tasting menu, was more than my taste buds could have ever imagine! the daring combinations are excuted in the most magnificent ways, leaving you wanting more.

we even had the pleasure of having chef luke dale roberts come to our table to ask if all was in order. our waitress was brilliant and wonderfully knowledgeable about the dishes being served. the sommelier provided us with a delicious pairing which worked with all the dishes being served.

test kitchen is a must for any foodie! it was a great way to celebrate our anniversary.
