yes so i'm technically only one course in but there is nothing premature about giving this place a rave review. not for nothing is it considered the best restaurant in africa and number 28 in the world. it's definitely a bucket list experience. and when you get your booking be smug in the knowledge not even ellen and portia could bypass the waiting list. january next year, people.

six months before we even hit south african shores, when things were still very much in planning mode, anybody i quizzed that had been to cape town insisted we book a table at the test kitchen. supposedly you need to book at least a couple of months early as you just may not get in. yes, it’s one of those places.

best dinner date i've ever been on. the food is amazing, full of flavours, variety and technique. our waiter knew everything about the food and the wine, even where the vegetables where sourced ! well worth waiting 6 months for. but the r450 for 2 is inaccurate. for food and wine pairing for 2 you're look at between r2000 and r3000 for two.

out of this world service, the food is beyond expectation and no words can describe it, worth the wait for a booking, eat outs restaurant of the year and i definitely agree.

the best ever!! had a wonderful evening with my family!
had a divine pineapple and vanilla cocktail. food and service absolute great!!! thanks for a great evening.

outstanding.  we have been on a few times, and are  always blown away by the experience.   perfectly balanced flavours and textures.  restraint is shown where its needed.    a true gastronomic experience. will go again.

an explosion of flavours on each plate. the wine pairing is a must. one of the best places you'll eat in sa. most negative thing i can say is the waiters are a bit more relaxed than at other fine dining places. the food is a complete sensory overload. you must go there.

wonderful tasting experience. all the flavors on the plate combine beautifully to create something spectacular. treat yourself with this one - you deserve it.

went here in january 2015, and what a pleasure to be able to enjoy a meal at this establishment.

the food was bursting with flavor, and had some of the best south african wines paired with them.

the waitrons are also very professional and was not afraid of questions you might have about the dishes or the wine. and really a lovely establishment that showcases how food is prepared in front of your eyes.

definitely make a reservation prior to going there, as they are at least full 2 months in advance just for lunch!

i will be back to try their dinner menu, when i  arrange my next visit for cape town!

while very good, i felt the experience and tastes were much better at the tasting room in franschoek, as it should be rated higher than tk. i actually prefer cheyne's in hout bay over the test kitchen.

excellent food, a great food experience, good service. a real treat, difficult to find though if you not from cape town. would definitely recommend to anyone.

test kitchen was voted best restaurant in south africa and so it should be. my soulmate and i celebrated our wedding dinner there because we didn't have a massive wedding. the food, service and decor was phenomenal. the 10 course tasting menu paired with wine was the most expensive option on the menu, so naturally we opted for that . the price was steep but worth every second of it. this restaurant gets my vote and would recommend to any foodie.

clearly the best restaurant in south africa - the ratings are fully justified. the food is outstanding - super attention to presentation, super flavors and the right portion sizes (just a bit more than tasting portions). loved the pork and the sea food especially. service is out of the world. the pricing is very steep, but justifiably so. would love to be back. needs to be booked several months in advance, so makes it complicated for us given we don't stay in africa.
