the sultan

the food was so so...didn't taste fresh like other mediterranean restaurants that i have been to. the gentleman that waited on us was not the most friendly either.

the service was decent. the grocery area was much smaller than i expected- didn't have what i was looking for. the falafels and grape leaves were pretty good.

i enjoyed it... coming from a middle east flavour lover the hummus motabel both had great flavour and texture. we ordered kebab and veg main course both were decent portion. it was nice comfort food

never had middle eastern cuisine before. my fiance and i shared the mezza for two. honestly i could not tell you what was on it (much less try to spell it on a review) but it was absolutely delicious. definitely worth a shot if you're wanting something different.

amazing middle eastern food!!. everything i've had here so far has been soooo amazing! the prices are reasonable and the quality of the food is above and beyond. there are plenty of tasty vegetarian items, too. i'm so thankful to have this here in athens!

value. i question the value of this place and will not order again. let me say that the food is quite tasty, i ordered a "sultans choice." you get to pick 4 vegetarian appetizers to make up a meal, and it was one of the most expensive dishes on the menu. however, the portion size of each was tiny. a small scoop each of baba ganoush and tabbouleh, and one small spinach triangle, the only thing not tiny was the falafal, i got 3 nice size pieces of that. it also came with one small pita bread. it was a tiny meal for $13, which did not include delivery and tip. i did call the restaurant to question this, but felt the manager was defiant and a bit rude about my complaint. he really did sound like he felt i had no right to question what i received. i had to explain to him that i felt i had the right to voice my unhappiness. however we certainly came to no agreement. because of the paltry size of the food and the indignant attitude of the staff, i cannot say i was happy enough to spend money here again.

nommy. i was feeling sick today so i ordered their chicken and rice soup with a side of tabouleh. just what the doctor ordered. very tasty.

this place is great. i work close by and it rarely looks busy which is unfortunate because the food is fantastic and the owner is really nice.

if you are on the fence, give it a shot. you won't be disappointed.

awesome. i'm a huge fan of the sultan. the wraps are really good and so are the fries. i have only been for lunch and have stuck to the wraps, but i've tried the chicken and beef/lamb shawarma platters and theyre great too.

one of my favorite lunch spots. the chicken shawarma is excellent and service is consistently friendly! definitely check this place out!

best middle eastern food in town. cannot say enough good word about the sultan. i'm not from middle east and have a very picky tastebud but the food at the sultan just pleases my tongue! i had chicken shawarma for the first time and decided that's the thing to die for :). then i tried falafel, lamb and beef sharwarma, salad, hummus... you name it. everything is wonderful!

the owner of the restaurant is such a gentleman. the service is awesome and every time when we were there the food got on our table super fast. if you live in athens, this is definitely a great restaurant that you don't want to miss.

the greatest place to eat. the food is unquestionably delicious--very authentic.

was there 2 weeks ago. great food,reasonable price,good service. food is made after you order it what means you have to wait for a little bit but well worth it. it's fresh and tastes good.

excellent **** 4 star!. having lived in new york city, where middle eastern food is plentiful i can honestly say that i am thrilled that athens ga has a restaurant with the quality me food the sultan serves!

i love nothing more than a good falafel and the sultan offers as good or better than i've had anywhere (maybe it's the mint). friendly service and reasonable prices.

and i must reply to the reviewer below.....
mary- i've worked in food and beverage for 25 years. the very best restaurants make most of their food from scratch, per order and no great restaurant is 'fast' as in fast food. no offense, but for a small restaurant like the sultan, which only seats about 40, the biggest nightmare is to have a 'large birthday party' of customers who have never been to the establishment, arrive with no warning.

i can assure you that if you had gotten a menu and phoned in most of your order your party would have been served promptly and treated like....sultans!

i have no tie to this restaurant and don't even know the names of anyone who works there. still, i sincerely give the sultan 4 out of 5 stars!

i sure hope the sultan makes it because it is a jewel of a spot on the athens food scene.

overall my experience was pretty good. the service was very pleasant and attentive and the food was yum! the salad was a bit sad but for $1.50 i guess i get what i pay for. i really hope they make it this time around!
