great!. went with a girlfriend recently and we had some share plates. the calamari was the best i have ever had. my husband and i love their fish and chips but it was fun to try some new things. service was good and the location combined with the great food always brings us back.

over priced, unimaginative seafood with poor excuse for a salad.. 11th july my friend took me to lunch at the rocks mornington as part of a day of pampering. due to the weather the rocks was pleasantly roomy. we choose our table and ordered 2 x gin and tonics. we fancied fish and chips but the specials board caught our eye with a 'seafood grill for 2' at $88. we decided to spoil ourselves and so ordered it plus a side salad. when the bowl (not platter) arrived our chins dropped. the seafood was barely enough for one person, half a morten bay bug, not a full one, 4 king size prawns, a lot of mussels and an oyster each plus two small pieces of burramandi, that took a lot of forking over just to get some flesh off the bones. the salad consisted of half an iceburg lettuce cut in half (not shredded) with a drizzle of sour cream over the top. i complained about the iceburg and swapped it for chips. but even the chips oozed oil and grease as we hungrily bit into them. $110 we paid for one of the most disappointing and overpriced meals i have ever had the displeasure to eat. we chose to go to 'little gem' on mornington main street for our coffee and desserts, always good food with reasonable prices. should have gone there in the beginning. the view is good though perhaps best left for coffees and desserts.

micro mussels. we have been to the rocks three times but the last time i had paella and my wife had tomato and mussels. the last time i went i had paella and it was so large i could hardly finish it and it was beautiful but this time it was very small for the same price. i had four small mussels and two weren't even in the shell! for $37 it wasn't worth it its just coloured rice with a few bits of fish and a couple of prawns. we are only on a very tight budget and come all the way from belgrave just to eat there. my wife had the mussels which were very small almost as big as her finger nail and i could see from the look on her face that she wasn't impressed. the waiters were nice and filled our water glasses every couple of minutes. she didn't even get a side order of bread to fill her up. at least half of the mussels were empty and not to fee found in the sauce. $23 for a few shells and tomatoes! we can get one kilo of new zealand mussels from box hill for $5.00 and they are big. "the rocks" mussels are too small and not cleaned properly. come on rocks you can do better. we left and felt deflated because we love the rocks and felt let down. i may give them one last chance.

was very disappointed came here after reading the good food guide but i wouldn't recommend it! my husband was ill after eating their seafood paella!! he should have sent it back after the first few mouthfuls but ate it despite not enjoying the over cooked dry seafood!! it's a shame but seems the chef didn't taste the dish before sending it out. $37 for old/off seafood is very disappointing

you would have to have rocks in your head! the staff are disinterested, the seating is dirty and has birds hopping all over it, the food is uninspiring bland and worse than home cooking. the chef must have no idea about basic cooking techniques. the paella was an embarrassment...instead of a nice crust on the bottom of the pan there was a quarter inch of stock in the bottom. the seafood was so overcooked it was like cardboard. it had little flavour. when i tried to give the lady at the till the feedback she got defensive and was more interested in processing the sale than listening to what i was saying. so arrogant! all our food was bland and lacked any proper technique. i will never be wasting my money here again. a ruined lunch and waste of calories.

i am very disappointed by the rocks. we have continued to try and give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt due to its location but you shouldn't have to put up with lack of service, over pricing and rudeness. last year mothers day we booked in for a large group. i had to ask to be served as we sat for an hour with no acknowledgement. my meal was then forgotten with no apology. i then went to the register and fixed up the bill for the entire group, 12 of us only go be chased out of the restaurant and demanded to see my receipt as they thought i didn't pay. i showed my receipt and they said i had paid another table and i owed $10 more. there was no apology for chasing me to the carpark, giving me the wrong bill to start with & then charging me more. i went back again this week. the main waiter didn't acknowledge us as customers or any other table, their meals were over priced as normal and i honestly can only say their saving grace is the view, so many better restaurants in mornington who deserve our hard earned dollar.

consistently impressive. my partner and i are locals on the mornington peninsula. despite the eclectic mix of restaurants on the peninsula, we return to 'the rocks' time after time. the menu is extensive and busting with delicious options. even after returning many times later, we are still testing new and exciting meals. (i believe they have updated the menu quite recently). we visited earlier this week and ordered the saganaki and salt and pepper squid amongst a few other small plates for starters. the saganaki is quite literally mouth watering and the squid is always fresh and one of our favourite dishes. though a seemingly busy night for the staff, our waitress was attentive and ever so friendly. we had entree, main course and dessert (who could resist the profiteroles coated in hot chocolate sauce!!) and all our meals were prompt and allowed for just the right amount of time between courses.

for the view, the service, the meals and the consistency of the rocks, we will continue to return time after time.

ian. i'm shocked after reading all the good reviews the service was the worst i have ever had the waiter was rude we were asked for drinks once on arrival then never asked again.we drank water for the whole time we were there.the fish and chips are not fresh they are frozen,i was told it comes from new zealand,it's still frozen.the waiter didn't speak to us when we asked for the bill ,he was pouring water then poured it all over the table and walked off to get the bill then stood at the bar and gave us a greasy look.if you don't like your job then quit, you don't have to work there.i did call the manager to complain he was apologetic but i feel i've wasted $300.we won't be going back and i strongly recommend not going.if for some reason you are running late, and yes we rang to advise, then don't go this is the reason for the crap service,i'll be happy to speak to the owner about it he has my number and i told them i'll leave a review.

great ambience, expectations, however, when the food was delivered the disappointment set in. at $37 the paella was incredibly bland and likewise for my wife's tomato based mussels. the bbq calamari was nice but for $200 very disappointing.

went there for a birthday lunch, the first thing i noticed was how filthy the cushions on the bench seats were. the waitress was not overly friendly but service was prompt. ordered fish and chips and paella. the presentation of the fish and chips was really poor, a local fish and chip shop would've done better. the paella was very dry including the chicken, chorizo and fish, the only saviour was the mussels. all in all a lousy, badly presented meal at an exorbitant price. my tip go to the local fish and chip shop and sit at the beach. im a local and wont be going back.
